Johannesburg - Municipal officials dismissed for misconduct should be named to prevent their re-employment, AfriForum said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Ivan Herselman said the group had made a written request in this regard to Co-operative Governance Minister Richard Baloyi.

This would help communities to keep watch on appointments in their municipalities.

"If the will not to re-employ these individuals does not come from within government, the right to have them removed must be exercised from outside government," Herselman said.

The department was supposed to keep a list of all local government staff found guilty of misconduct in terms of Municipal Systems Act, according to AfriForum.

"Having untrustworthy people employed in municipalities compromises the integrity of local government, and it's thus of cardinal importance that such information be made available," he said.

Baloyi's spokesperson Nghamula Nkuna said he would comment later.
