Chairs thrown at ANC meeting

2012-11-06 09:13

Johannesburg - An ANC branch meeting in the Eastern Cape ended with thrown chairs and injuries, the DispatchOnline reported on Tuesday.

The Ward 28 branch, which includes parts of Gonubie and Beacon Bay, abandoned its meeting on Sunday after waiting eight hours for a quorum.

African National Congress Qinirha branch executive committee member Thulani Mthwa told the website only 46 of the 147 members needed for the quorum had shown up for the meeting.

The meeting was facilitated by Buffalo City Metro regional executive committee member Mbulelo Nkonzo and regional chairperson Zukisa Faku.

When the postponement was announced, a member reportedly charged at Nkonzo.

"We tried to defuse the fight, but chairs were thrown at us. When we tried to run away, the doors were chained. We were left with no choice but to fight for our lives," branch executive committee member Mncekeleli Molose told the DispatchOnline.

He suffered a cut to the ear. Another member Xolisa Jita sustained jaw injuries. Both were hospitalised.

@ignatius...funny at his constituency when they failed to form a quorum they didn't do it the African way by using the donkeys and horses to ferry people. They used the white man's SUV's, sedans and MPV's.

  • dewaldt.duplessis.5 - 2012-11-06 09:56

What on earth is wrong with the ANC! I see they are returning back to the Stone age. If this is the quality 'leaders' SA has to offer if I can call it quality, then SA is doomed for sure! We are civilized people so wtf went wrong? I say put all ANC in a fighting ring and let them bliksem each other once and for all so that they can move on.

  • gary.desousa.7 - 2012-11-06 10:17

We just saw both UK parties having their conferences, the hight of civilized behavior and debating etc and then we have this,a 5th world savagery involved in what can only be described as behavior befitting animals in a zoo that throw things around. So sad.

      Irene Kambouris - 2012-11-06 10:27

      Gary, please don't insult animals!

  • dan.gleebits.33 - 2012-11-06 10:18

More on the "Regional Chairperson" Zukisa Faku : http://www.dispatch.co.za/faku-appears-in-court/ . Yet another upright and honourable ANC cadre. The Faku name is also infecting other parts of the E Cape. Google the other one: Nceba Faku and check what the Kabuso Report had to say. The ANC leadership in that Province is truly rotten to the core.

  • takeonem - 2012-11-06 10:19

This shows that, there is no unity in the Anc.

  • numerofigo - 2012-11-06 10:19
