Comrades dividing ANC - Mantashe

2011-09-21 09:39

Johannesburg - Some comrades are determined to sow divisions in the ANC, its secretary general Gwede Mantashe has told The Star newspaper.

Mantashe was quoted as saying the party would celebrate its centenary next year more divided than it was in 2007.

Mantashe's comments - contained in his report to the national executive committee (NEC) - revealed a picture of infighting and highlighted that the party was failing to achieve its non-racial goals.

He said divisions were becoming "more glaring, with comrades locked in "grouping".

Chaos and anarchy

"More worrying is the efforts comrades put into dividing the organisation... Some comrades work for chaos because chaos and anarchy are good forests for mischief."

Referring to the 2007 Polokwane conference in which former party president Thabo Mbeki was unseated, Mantashe said some members boldly boasted that divisions had become a tradition.

"Kingmakers and bookmakers can only survive when the NEC is divided. Politics of blackmail get stronger when factions are growing stronger than the organisational structures."

He also warned that the ANC Youth League's "confrontational and aggressive" stance against the party would only "dent" the mother body in the eyes of society.

The ANC will collapse, it's only a matter of when.

      Servaas - 2011-09-21 10:19

      Some good news hey??

      GMan - 2011-09-21 10:22

I agree, but the "matter of time" might be a long one

      LekkerinSA - 2011-09-21 10:25

I doubt an all out collapse. They will probably get a bit weaker if they carry on with their nonsense. It may be better for SA if we had a 50 50 split like the USA. There are not too many good revolutionary movements that are able to be good governers and administrators.

      Richie - 2011-09-21 10:29

Collapse the will, but they will take this great country down with them. Zuma is probably the worst and most cowardly leader ever to grace Africa and that’s saying a lot. It seems his hell bent on letting corruption and division flourish... he's weak minded coward of the worst order. With as much foresight as a fruit-fly with a life span of a few days. South Africa and Africa deserve better leaders!!!

      Nkutist - 2011-09-21 10:35

Nah they won't. There are still alot of followers who are holding on due to what happened during aparthied. So until people's wounds heal, ANC will always gain support. Stolkhom Syndrome It s dwindling because some of us want a better future for our country and won't tolerate their crap. It will take us a while to get there though...

      Ozymandios - 2011-09-21 10:37

I remember the big guy Zuma saying somewhere in 2007/8 that the ANC would be around until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. And I thought you don't dictate to God, stating what you think will happen as and when you decide, and you don't ever mock Him. Side bets no ANC will be here when that event takes place. I give this circus another 2-3 years to be totally washed up and maybe 3 new political parties stemming from the ANC demise with young JM on his own with his New Radical Democratic ANC Party (or assisinated by then) Vavi in one corner and the rest running a hotch potch political party called The NEW ANC! Chickens coming home to roost faster that I thought.

      Michael - 2011-09-21 10:38

Thor, Only a bottle of Wine??? We will be more thirsty than that!!!!!

Johnny-BB - 2011-09-21 10:38, the ANC will not fall... ...all the illigal immigrants from Mozambique and Zimrobwe, buy SA ID documents for R200 and then they vote for the ANC.... ...ANC is here for the next 50 years.... ..thats how "Africa-democracy" works...

      Matt :-) - 2011-09-21 10:39

Comrades dividing ANC... well if they call everyone a comrade, inevitably it'll be comrades doing it :-) Good news! Down with them!

      Tokkel Loshi - 2011-09-21 10:39

@ sganja Who you going to pray to the chinese or the ancestors ?

      willieman - 2011-09-21 10:40

GREED IS THE ORDER,but it will be good for democracy in anc structures

      Matt :-) - 2011-09-21 10:41

If the ANC fall and Jacob Zuma is kicked out, he simply needs to start his own party. Seeing how he's knocked up half the women in SA, just the mistresses and children alone would be 30% of the electorate...

      Coconut - 2011-09-21 10:44

Gwede Magwapshe will soon discover that the African way is to fight one another. Blacks have been doing it centuries. They were forced to behave themselves under Apartheid but now it's a free for all pub brawl.

      GuyverXT9 - 2011-09-21 10:47

@sganja: keep praying, but you are praying to satan as God will never condone what your party stands for

      cliffarc - 2011-09-21 10:49

      - Maybe it will collapse in it's present form and whereas that would be cause for celebration ,the real worry is what will take it's place. Right now Malema is in pole position, mainly because of the Anc's inability to address the major issues of the poor masses, which has elevated his popularity . The party is inevitably heading toward a socialistic dictatorship model.

      GypseyAnn - 2011-09-21 10:50

@ sganja - why pray? Communists and Socialists don't really believe in God do they?"?

      Matt :-) - 2011-09-21 10:58

      @ GypseyAnn, GuyverXT9 - well said!

      Servaas - 2011-09-21 11:04

@sganja: That is the problem, you lot think you can use Him when it suits you, only pray when you need, but the rest of the time forget God and then when the paw paw strikes the fan?? Then you run and pray. Btw, what will you be praying for? Because the ANC' motto is Economic liberation via crime and corruption.. Asking God to help criminals?? Oh that is rich.. Do you think God only listens to black people? Singing silly little kill the boer songs and then running back to pray and protect instigators of hate crime and genocide? You are one silly little man. Rather pray They will be done... and that the people running SA down have a serious change of attitude.

      Tokkel Loshi - 2011-09-21 11:13

@ sganja God wont listen to murderers , rapists and thieves !!

      allan.clean - 2011-09-21 11:32

      Elle_black - 2011-09-21 12:26

Ofcourse tthey will and its all because of greed.Soon they will self destruct. Sad because this is not what the ANC used to stand for but hey they no longer serve their purpose so it's time

      Pikkie - 2011-09-21 12:33

God forbid, that we don't get an white faction, whom are "fedup" with all this nonsense and start taking action against this revolutionary bunch. We certainly will get a Wit Wolf pack, as there is currently people who gets training by highly skilled ex Reccie's. Things cannot go on like this forever. Somewhere, somehow, something will snap. People in High places should look at that. Mantashe will have to stamp down authority ore else we will have k...k in die land van Kanaan

  • missmazwi - 2011-09-21 10:21

Gwede Mantashe is one of a very handful of people within the ANC with a modicum of good sense. We all know what happens to decent individuals within the ANC....

      LekkerinSA - 2011-09-21 10:28

Ye he does seem to be a nice bloke. Wouldnt mind if he had a few years at the helm. In fact there are a lot of really good people in the ANC, pity the media only gives airtime to the idiots.

      GT - 2011-09-21 10:28

exactly. They chased away the intellectuals years ago and the rest are so busy stuffing their faces or fornicating with someones daughter, no one is steering the ship. And as we know, with the no-nuttins in charge, we are all screwed. Time for some sensible people to stand up.

      O'forth - 2011-09-21 11:25

Gwede Mantashe is an undemocratic communist prop. He is a bad person of the worst kind. Him and his NDR is as stagnant and out dated as the communists and soon to be the ANC itself. He will not even listen to the workers who pay his bloated salery to go back to the SACP and do the job which he was elected for. A freeloader and manipulator of note. Mantashe is everything that is wrong with SA politics.

  • DABOSS247365 - 2011-09-21 10:21

Well spotted batman... Now then, time to do something about it & remove the rot isnt it? Lets see some boots on the ground Mantashe, kill the demons & let the good survive, or we will all fall... A war without winners is a pointless waste, & in a civil war, there can never be winners. Remove Malema, destroy he's bases & erradicate this rot, before this parasite causes a lot of real death & destruction to all around, predominantly he's own people.

      LD - 2011-09-21 10:46

He can't remove Malema because he was his trumpcard to Polokwane. Ever heard of Dr Frankenstein?

  • proudandpink - 2011-09-21 10:22

Jeez, Gwede says the ANC is divided like it's some kind of a problem! The sooner the ANC fizzles out and dies the better.

      Ohmikehunt - 2011-09-21 10:46

Don't you think that's a bit one-dimensional @proudandpink? I believe that this shows that there ARE GOOD people in the ANC, and our democracy is all the better for it. Gotta love a vibrant and purposeful ANC - feeling so much more optimistic about our future now.

      Ohmikehunt - 2011-09-21 11:12

      Huh @Michael007?

      Kenno - 2011-09-21 12:20

      Ohmikehunt - 2011-09-21 13:40

So @Kenno are you inferring that the entire ANC membership is inept?

  • Johann - 2011-09-21 10:24

      sganja - 2011-09-21 10:29

I agree, but we can fight (divided) on one another but when the enemy comes we will be united.

      Thor - 2011-09-21 10:48

This is your problem sganja. You do not have an enemy. A Lot of people or is that poepols in the anc is trying to keep "the white man is your enemy" alive. But not all are sheeple. All the anc can do is fight. They cannot build. Therefore they are failing. The time for fighting is over its now time for building.

      GuyverXT9 - 2011-09-21 10:50

@sganja: judging by your idiotic comments, you aren't a threat at all. please make sure you are in the front of the line when the enemy does indeed come, the sooner you are off the face of this planet, the better for the news24 comments section.

      Trextoo - 2011-09-21 10:55

@ sganja. Hey... shouldn't you be attending woodwork class rather than posting your usual drivel? Oh, I forgot... you are studying for a "master's degree"... probably in political drivel. Troll!

      People Hater - 2011-09-21 10:58

Looking at MK's track record in the armed struggle, they can't even fight properly either.

      sganja - 2011-09-21 10:58

Thor I agree brother is time for building but what I was trying to say is that even if we can have internal problems as a family but at the end we will be united because we have the same blood. Difficult times need courage

      sganja - 2011-09-21 11:03

@Guyverxt no need to attack me Im just presenting my views... @Trextoo I'm at work now I'm doing my studies part time...and I'm just saying what I think is right don't attack me..

      braveheart - 2011-09-21 11:05

And who do we have to thank - MALEMA. And the poor leadership of Jacob Zuma. He spent too much time in the bedroom.

      BOFFINBOB_RETURNS - 2011-09-21 11:23

sganja...You & yours are your own worst enemies. I dont see whites & other minorities destroying this country, most of the problems stem from the undisciplined members of the majority, who seem hell bent on destruction & mayhem. You " fought " for the vote & therefore black rule, now you have it. Embrace it & get on with life. Stop looking for " imaginary enemies ", just because most of you have come to the realisation that the people you continually vote into power lack the ability to govern. Vote with your head & not your heart. The results might surprise you.

      DW - 2011-09-21 11:39

sganja, I totally disagree with every single one of your views, but you are right. Personal attacks by individuals just because they disagree with you reflect an immaturity which has reached epidemic proportions on this forum. Guys please debate and disagree without personally attacking others. However sganja, please dont refer to the "other side" as the enemy as you are provoking these kinds of comments by doing so.

      GuyverXT9 - 2011-09-21 13:43

@sganja: your views are moronic and don't carry any weight what-so-ever. you are a poofter.

  • J Burnstein - 2011-09-21 10:25

The ANC will never give up power, even if they loses an election in future. The country will fall into total anarchy and what we have been seeing lately is nothing to what is to come in the next 6 to 8 months.

      Ohmikehunt - 2011-09-21 10:47

Geesh don't you just love optimism @J Burnstein? The glass is half-full :P

      BOFFINBOB_RETURNS - 2011-09-21 11:29

Correct...All hell would break loose, if this lot had to lose a general election. They & their " supporters / voters would never accept it.

      Ohmikehunt - 2011-09-21 12:06

@BOFFINBOB dohhh - of course we would accept it... unless there was skullduggery of course!

      Kenno - 2011-09-21 12:21

They dont accept the banning of the Shoot the Boer outcome, they wont accept losing an election!

      Ohmikehunt - 2011-09-21 13:42

@Kenno why don't you invite @J Burnstein over to dinner? Seems like the 2 of you would make a perfect pair :P

      BOFFINBOB_RETURNS - 2011-09-21 14:10

Ohmikehunt...with regards to J Burnstein & Kenno, you are being unreasonable & downright silly. There is no way the ANC & its undisciplined rent a mob supporters will ever accept defeat in any general election. After all, they are not really a democratically elected government are they, sure the voting process is democratic, but nowhere else in a real democratic society would this lot, with its short history of greed, corruption & inability to govern, be elected time & time again. Perhaps in order to have the vote, one would need to pass an IQ test of some sort as, lets be honest here, many of its voters are not the sharpest tools in the box & are easily misled.

  • Malcop - 2011-09-21 10:26

Its about time that someone in the ANC realised that the organisation is descending into chaos and anarchy. All they need to do is read news 24 comments to know whats going on in their own party. If they had done this, they would have realised years ago that the ANC was headed for disaster.

  • echo - 2011-09-21 10:26

lol!!!! How can you call them comrades if they stuffing up the unity! lol!! Bloody idiots!

  • Nzx - 2011-09-21 10:27

Dont forget, it was the ANC that mediated a peaceful transition, and up to now, it has kept the millions of poor blacks in their place. So before celebrations, think first, with the ANC gone, you will have Malema and his chommies at your farm gate. If you then call the DA in Cape Town, well, good luck.

      ands - 2011-09-21 12:18

@Nzx I wish we would hit the wall sooner rather than later. So that we can get back to where we should be as a nation. The ANC needed to mediate a peacefull transition as they were getting clobbered on all military fronts. The SADF are now so watered down as SANDF they are a national joke, they even run from a police force. Lets get it on....sort out Malema and his followers then all South Africans can sit down and have a beer together.

  • Mamaile - 2011-09-21 10:29

      Mlu - 2011-09-21 11:21

Mamaile mf'wethu, the ANC we have today is simply chaotic. There is neither leadership nor direction. All is for one and one for all. Look at Malema for instance. I am sure the like of Tambo, Luthuli and others are restless in their graves at the state of the movement and what it is doing to the country.

      Uthando - 2011-09-21 11:56

Agreed Mlu. 'Chaos' is an understatement. There's no suitable word to describe the state of which the current ANC is under. There are good people & possible great leaders in the movement, but I dont understand why dont they stand up for us (SA) & do something about this mess. Sans Ms Mandonsela. Maybe they're overlooked, maybe they're also lining their pockets (life jackets) as quickly as they can before the ship sinks, maybe they dont want to be victimised *shrug*... But as sure as the sun sets & rises, ANC will seize to rule, if not, exist - if things continue they way they are. Stru.

Should the whites leave here the same will happen. Lok after the white people they are the fringe that hold the core.

The fringe that holds the core that you talk about has left the majority of this country uneducated, poor, and destitute.

It would be in South Africa’s best interest if the ANC resolve their issues and are able to unite and govern this country as a democracy. The ANC are the ruling party and if they are divided the governing body of the country is divided. The divide does not only make them weaker it makes us as a country weaker in all aspects. Don’t kid yourself, another party is not easily going to be voted into power just because there is friction, and the ANC is not easily going to collapse into nothing, the majority of our residence still vote for them and will in the future because most of them don’t know any better.

      Kitchengirl - 2011-09-21 16:57

I agree with you April but I don't agree with you when you say a lot don't know any better. You see apartheid is gone on "paper" yes, but all the characteristics and scars are still here with us, visible everyday. Do you expect the people to change their minds when a mother must still wake up at 3am to catch a bus to work for a salary of R700 pm. White always isolate themselves, they are like in an island within the RSA. This is exactly what used to happen during apartheid, and the people are expected to forget about it. WHites can't forget about apartheid and why everyone else should. The people who are still sliving below the poverty line are Africans, yet we are still expected to forget. We are still traumetised, yes we are.

The ANC would celebrate its centenary next year more divided than it was in 2007. Quoted by Mantashe, (the man behind the dividing?)

  • Ingie - 2011-09-21 11:00

They will kill their own for power..been proven and anyway who cares, i dont

  • PEA - 2011-09-21 11:03

Does anyone have the definition of "COMRADE"?

      allie - 2011-09-21 11:18

Yes When the jounalist in Zim called a man by "boy",the man said to the journo."We don`t call people "boy" anymore. We are called "comrades" now.So the journo ask what "comrade "means. So the man says: don`t know, maybe russian for ka--er.

  • sushi - 2011-09-21 11:06

and your role also was to unite the organisation you also failed the organisation mantashe, you are also part of the group

  • rudebear - 2011-09-21 11:09

Very bad for SA. Rather the devil you know than the devil you dont

  • Wolraad Woltemade - 2011-09-21 11:10

Mantashe should become the party president. Why is it always the dickheads that rise to power while the one worth while is left to sort out the crap of the dickheads?

  • metsi - 2011-09-21 11:10

This comrade Mantashe could have been avoided had you as the secretary general or as a member of the ANC prior to Polokoane encourouged unity within the organisation but you were busy preparing and sowing divisions because it was convenient at the time to unseat President Mbeki, it's a classic case of poetic justice. You reap what you sow! Real issues of The revolution such as the NDR (National Democratic Revolution) are not addressed. Malema becomes a victim when he speaks of Econmic Freedom Why? Even if it was'nt in the form of Malema comrades would still be purged.

  • proudly - 2011-09-21 11:20

You are all correct, they are, and will destroy this part of Africa, seems to be an African thing!

  • mike.kgatla - 2011-09-21 11:21

ANC wil remain strong n stronger.De only solution is 4 Gwede 2 relinguish his position as SG of ANC.

      Uthando - 2011-09-21 12:01

The "only" solution.......really now? Which cave did you crawl out of.

      Kenno - 2011-09-21 12:32

With typing like yours, any comment you make cannot be taken seriously!

  • jekalo - 2011-09-21 11:28

Cut off funding for the ANCYL and it will die on its own.

  • The World is F@cked! - 2011-09-21 11:32

thats what happens when the reason for the struggle is forgotten! The ANC leaders dont care about anybody but themselves.....they dont care about the poor! Politics is business and it acts only in the interest of itself!! Back to self sustainability....

  • Faahim Dajee - 2011-09-21 11:43

    He's still calling them COMRADES!

  • Bronni - 2011-09-21 11:50

    Finally! Someone worth listening to!

  • croix - 2011-09-21 12:04

Or, put differently : Some are sick to death of ANC incompetence and total state of corruptness: or: The 'comrades' also want their share of the spoils!

  • JustinD - 2011-09-21 12:26

or maybe they are just as sick and tired of your thieving ways like the rest of us.....

  • Ang - 2011-09-21 12:34

How do you expect to run a country if the very party that runs the country is so divided!!! Unfortunately it is the bad people within the ANC, those that are only interested in the money and prestige and therefore themselves, that seem to be outshining the good that was the ANC!!

  • rkg - 2011-09-21 12:41

But what will rise in its place? Say what you want about the ANC and all its problems. But its a huge organisation and the majority of that organization is interested in benefiting the country. How else has South Africa achieved what it has in the last 19 years? It’s the minority in the seats of power that have slowed what should have been great leaps and bounds forward. But if the ANC collapses in on itself and a JuliASS and his little lap dog Floyd take the drivers seat. That's the day this country takes is first steps to another Zim.

  • King147 - 2011-09-21 12:44

When the current regime falls hopefully in my lifetime. I pray a more viable contrsuctive opposition would be available then...

Kitchengirl - 2011-09-21 16:39 the apartheid regime huh? In your dreams boetie, vergeet dit.

  • germanski - 2011-09-21 12:57

I saw a very wise black Political Commentator a few weeks ago on TV who said if you raise your kids to swear at your neighbours, dont be surprised if they eventually swear at you. I think this is applicable on the post Polokwane ANC.

  • grimbie1 - 2011-09-21 13:19

Divide as much as you want...there are other things in the world more important than what the ANC does as all they do is breed racism and seperation in the country. They do as they please so untill this is stopped nothing can be done. My interest is in things more important than what the ANC and YL do. Boorriinngg.. moved on Bye Bye

  • Mindtone - 2011-09-21 14:04

All political parties have divisions but the ANC is the ruling party and will be for a long time to come. Many are using Gwede's admission as if it spells the end of the ANC. Like any party with power there will be contestation for position and this is not an African thing it happens all over the world. What the ANC has to do is to enforce discipline. This is what it is beginning to do. The demise of the ANC is not in the interest of South Africa or Africa. Like in any democracy, the people decide. Undoubtedly, the people will continue to choose the ANC as they believe the ANC represents their interest. Other parties are unable to convince the electorate otherwise. Does this make them stupid as some imply or are they exercising their right to vote. Because someone is illiterate or uneducated does not mean they cannot think, reason and make a decision.

  • YoungArts - 2011-09-21 15:51

I was always under the impression that you do not mess with the ANC, when have they become such cowards. I say off with all the heads of the YL presidents and massive military action on their supporters. Weak leaders let themselfs be unseated.

  • VUSI - 2011-09-21 15:55

one thing that im starting to realise is that white people are so obsessed with everything that has to do with the anc.the white master will never accept that we rule this land.the sooner you get it into your thick skulls the better for everyone,if anyone has a problem with that then you must just go open a refugee camp in canada or australia and take afriforum with you.we are sick and tired

      Kitchengirl - 2011-09-21 16:46

Couldn't agree with you more bro. There's a lot of white people though who are so positive about this country. They share the same dream as any other South african. Don't be misled by just a few rightwingers who are failing today because they just can't survive without apartheid. If one feels SA is not good enough for them, the airports and harbours are wide open for them to leave, by the way where will they go to? Europe is not so welcoming so it looks to me they are stuck with us here. ha ha ha.
