Cope MP to face committee on drunkenness

Johannesburg - Congress of the People MP Dirk Feldman, who stumbled to prominence following an alleged drunken incident on a flight to India, will face a multi-party disciplinary hearing, the Saturday Star reported.

The paper reported that Parliament decided the matter would be referred to the National Council of Provinces. The Council said it had been in contact with Cope on the hearing.

Feldman was visiting India earlier this month as part of a parliamentary delegation when he allegedly attempted to open an exit while intoxicated, and while the plane was in flight.

Feldman said he would co-operate with the investigation.

Cope Chief Whip Dennis Bloem said Feldman has given the party his side of the story. They are now awaiting a report from council chair Mninwa Mahlangu, who was on an earlier flight to India.

Ok, let's look at this: the man boards a flight and is not sober. Something happens and he tries to exit the plane while in flight. He is endangering his life and those of countless others. But, this was not a malicious act intended to defraud or impoverish the people of South Africa - it was an error of judgement. Why is he being censured more than those that are deliberately seeking to destroy our country, the people and the economy? Surely those people should be charged with treason?

What sort of airline could allow a passenger with a drink to open an exit in flight? Come on!

      Lacrimose - 2012-07-28 21:05

the sort where there are 300+ passengers and you cannot possibly watch them all at once, let alone imagine that some fool will decide it's time for a sky-walk.

Well I suppose this is part of protocol and procedure when politricksters are naughty. EXCEPT that there's never any tangible, meaningful outcome. He'll be abjectly apologetic, join a rehab program for 2 days and be jetting off on the tax-payer's bucks within a month.

No worries, Comrade Feldman. Join the ANC - in particular, the health department. You'll be allowed to drink as much as you want and they will throw in a liver transplant as part of the perks!
