Johannesburg - The Congress of the People released its list of provincial premiership candidates on Saturday, including three women as nominees.

Lyndall Shope-Mafole has been nominated for the premiership of Gauteng, Nikiwe Num for the North West and Prudence Madonesela for Mpumulanga, said Cope general secretary Charlotte Lobe in a statement.

Other nominees include Wiseman Nkuhlu, for the Eastern Cape; Allan Boesak, Western Cape; and Neville Mompati, Northern Cape.

Casca Mokitlane has been nominated in the Free State and Lucky Sifiso Gabela in KwaZulu-Natal.

It is not yet known who has been nominated as the candidate in Limpopo.

Lobe said the nominations were a culmination of a selection process led by Professor Barney Pityana. Provinces nominated candidates to be chosen for provincial and national legislatures.

"Our leadership has been carefully chosen and vetted to ensure they will operate to the highest ethical standards to uphold the founding ideals of the Congress of the People," she said.
