Cosatu outraged by dept outsourcing

Johannesburg - Cosatu has expressed disgust following reports that the public works department spent money for outsourcing media duties, instead of using its own communications team.

"It is ridiculous that a department which describes itself as the handyman of the state and a crucial player in job creation... resorts to outsourcing even the most basic of its functions," spokesperson Phindile Kunene said on Tuesday.

"Through outsourcing, government departments waste millions of rands which could be better spent creating jobs and providing housing and better healthcare services for the poor."

The Star reported on Tuesday that the ministry had forked out R68 000 for media lobbying, R38 000 for a press conference venue, R12 000 for a press release, R10 000 for media invites and R25 000 for crisis management to external media companies in four months.

The ministry's director general Mandla Mabuza could not be reached for comment.

That is PEANUTS, AND, it makes sense to outsource when a dept is riddled with corruption. Well done to the Minister.

Exactly Peter. They're upset about this squandering but they have chosen one of the smallest amounts squandered in recent times. Hell the ANC cadres have the ability to squander millions at any one time.

the can't read as well as Jacob or organize a "rent-a-crowd" like JUJU

If outsourced to a South African company, isn't it still creating jobs? (Maybe just not for the union workers.)

What's your problem Cosatu? Cosatu wants the "disavantged" to be employed which turns into imcompetence (as not all are ready to undertake the responsibilities) and then outsourcing becomes a need. Again, what's your problem Cosatu?

Cosatu is guilty for the majority of the economic upsets. Cosatu lobby when they do not get a cut of the pie, they have created a situation where normal taxpaying small businesses suffer due to unrealistic and unconstitutional demands. You have to this and that ... Now they are bothered with < 100 K - Grow up and contribute Hoffa wanabees !

The only solution to this problem is do away with tendars,do not get me wrong,as a black person i would like to get the tendars and live a wonderful life but if tendars are cripling our country there is no other solution but to do way with tendars and employe people to do the work. This tendar thing only surfaced ofter 1994 or ofter Mr Thobo Mbeki become the president of the Repblic, before that municipalities, provincial and national governmant were employing people to do the job bosting the economy of the country in terms of buying power for a particular area.Today most of our people are sitting without work whilst tendars are aworded to families and friends of the politically connected thats not good and its not fare.In New South Africa everything centered on politically connected leaving the majority people starving. Its true Cosatu supported cadre deploymant which has crippled the country and reduced it to a tendars or banana republic. The tendar thing has brought missary to the black majority who do not have anyone in governmant to provide them with work or tendars if you may like the term.Scratching tendars will resort hope to the majority os they will be able to find work from governmant or local authority.
