Cosatu president did not endorse Zuma

2012-05-04 20:01

Bloemfontein - Union federation Cosatu on Friday denied that its president, Sidumo Dlamini, backed President Jacob Zuma for a second term as ANC leader during a Worker's Day rally in Mangaung.

Spokesperson Patrick Craven said Dlamini had been misquoted and false impressions had been created in reports by the SABC and in newspapers such as the Times and Sowetan on 2 May.

Craven said Dlamini did not make any endorsement, but spoke in line with the federation's policies, adopted by its central executive committee in November 2011 and reaffirmed in February and April this year.

This included that the Congress of SA Trade Unions would defend the ANC's leadership collective elected at its Polokwane conference in 2007 against a "tendency" attempting to destabilise it.

It also included a refusal to engage in any succession debate which would distract Cosatu from trying to change the country.

Craven said the federation had decided not to discuss the leadership of the ANC and SA Communist Party in its constitutional structures.

However, he said if Cosatu's central executive committee, or its upcoming national congress decided that circumstances demand Cosatu again debate the ANC leadership, it would do so. This decision would then be discussed with the SACP and ANC.

      Peter - 2012-05-05 00:30

@Abnar: I see you have posted your message more than once. When you write 'mast' I suppose you mean 'must'? If so, where 'must' he lead us in his second term? You are, of course, welcome to post your empty message as often as you you like, but I prefer substantiated statements. And I just happen to be of the opinion that anyone who evades the course of law does not deserve a first term as President - let alone a second.

      Gerhard - 2012-05-05 13:31

      Zuma has never lead anything

      Glyn - 2012-05-05 16:41

what good has he done for the country, I would say nothing (except kicking Comrade Condom out of the ANC) He has spent all his time saving his own skin in court, having sex with girls while married, getting married again & again, getting his buddy (shaik) out of jail & making sure his pockets filled, I can't think of any education problems that he has solved, or any corruption he has eliminated, nope, I can't think of anything.

    Who the hell cares

  • Lacrimose - 2012-05-04 20:36

What is outrageous is that we, the people are not permitted to choose our President. Equally outrageous is that any of the contenders are not allowed to promote themselves in any PUBLIC way. And the most outrageous of all is that when the "new candidate" is presented to the public we are not told why (or in the case of the losers, why not).

  • Loyiso - 2012-05-04 20:41

When a politiciana are cornered or caught in a web of their lies, the only way out is to say they have been: misquoted or misunderstood. While in actual fact we all know they are lying.

      colin.dovey - 2012-05-04 22:41

Karl Niehaus is a prime example of the lows that the ANC has sunk to, especially in the last 17 years since they took office from an unsuspecting electorate.
