Cosatu supports Limpopo take-over

2012-02-08 21:22

Johannesburg - Cosatu President Sdumo Dlamini wants the Cabinet to consider placing the entire Limpopo government under administration, SABC news reported on Wednesday.

A request by Limpopo for a R1bn loan to pay salaries prompted the placing of five of the province's departments under administration late last year.

"[The Congress of SA Trade Unions] supports the intervention by the National Treasury," Dlamini said at the provincial shop steward council in Limpopo.

"We are even saying, if there is negative feedback from the province as we saw initially and if there is more [negative feedback]... Why not put the whole provincial government under administration?"

This was met with loud applause.

On Monday, provincial secretary Dan Sebabi said that if Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale was allowed to stay on, the ANC risked losing support in the 2014 local government election.

Sebabi said the government had exhausted its budget and failed to pay bonuses because it had focused on tender projects.

That might not be as important as what happens then. Is it not important that the guilty parties be charged and the money recovered. Did they steal from the poor or did they not. Is it right or is it wrong. Will they get away with it and be allowed to do it again. Would it then serve as an example for others to do the same until there is no money left. Answer these questions honestly and everybody will believe that you care.

bloody idiots are busy driving around in Range Rovers , while the poor of them even went as far as having a wedding that cost twenty million rand last year .. Two billion over budget??? now we want to nationalise mines?? Sleepless nights i tell

  • Herbert - 2012-02-08 22:20

Now they're onto something. Fire the premier and all the other Malema croonies; if not, at least bar premier and MEC's from office. Whilst under Administration, impound all cars with engine capacity above 1600 cc bought under government vehicle assistance scheme, put all tenders on halt, etc, etc.

      Moses Thulani Mike - 2012-02-09 00:09

lmao bar all cars over 1600 cc .. Gud one man

  • Mkhuseli Nozulu - 2012-02-08 22:33

Well its about time!!!! Its time to get rid of that premier!!!!

  • Gary - 2012-02-08 22:40

Yes the entire province needs to be taken over by our National Government.

  • Gary - 2012-02-08 22:42

Yes our National Government needs to consider taking over Limpopo.

      Mary - 2012-02-09 04:13

The national government is no better than the clowns who "run" Limpopo. Technically, they are one and the same.

      Max - 2012-02-09 05:14

Mary, you are a 100% right!

  • Vongani Sylvester - 2012-02-08 22:43

I think Sdumo smoke something in return affect his thinking ability, Mathale inherited all this mess since from 1994 government

      Heibrin - 2012-02-09 01:16

Get real, seriously. Let's, for arguments sake, say that they did inherit a mess from the 1994 governement; ANYONE who can't sort out a provinces mess in over 18 years shouldn't be in government.

      Mary - 2012-02-09 04:15

What you are clearly saying is that you support the incompetents in Limpopo. Trying to blame the pre 1994 government is so lame, in that it shows how other incompetents are trying to hide their own total lack of abilities.

      Max - 2012-02-09 05:35

Vongani, you do not have a clue what you are talking about. Provincial Government in its current format was established after 1994 when it was decided to decentralise power to the provinces. Currently all the National departments are duplicated in every province. This is a royal f@#kup.

      Henri James Christie - 2012-02-09 07:38

What wouldn't you blame the previous Government for???? Do your homework before commenting!!!

      Shaun Robinson - 2012-02-09 09:59

@Vongani - Buddy that card is getting old and maybe you need to sort out that chip on your shoulder...

  • John - 2012-02-08 23:10

    Bloody agents...

  • Raul - 2012-02-08 23:11

You should consider placing the entire government under supervision

  • Mboneni - 2012-02-08 23:13

The tripartite Alliance is messing up the country, they are bussy fighting for political opportunity while the majority are unemployed. They no longer have ideas of running the country. To ensure a better future for our children another party must prepare to take over gorvenance of this country,Vavi is eyeing premiership of Limpopo

      Henri James Christie - 2012-02-09 07:34

So pleased you have noticed this, pity the majority of SA citizens don't reach the same conclusion. Come to the Western Cape and check the DA success

  • Blip - 2012-02-09 00:34

First it was the ANCYL who were ordering the government what to do and now it's Cosatu. Either way, it's clear that there isn't any confidence in the government from within own alliance ranks.

  • Mary - 2012-02-09 04:11

Why is it that everything the ANC touches is totally stuffed within a short time ??? Wait, that's a rhetorical question .....

  • Desmond - 2012-02-09 07:06

Simply put they took the salaries and bonus and paid it to Malema

  • Ze Don - 2012-02-09 07:15

Will cosatu support government if they fire ALL the incompetents in Limpopo? Or will they turn around & fight for the criminals again?

  • Shaun Robinson - 2012-02-09 09:58

There that word crops up again... Tenders...
