DA sets textbook challenge for ANC

2012-08-01 18:26

Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance is challenging the ANC to match its record of textbook delivery, Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko said on Wednesday.

"When you compare the DA and ANC's performance in educating our children, it is obvious which party cares more about the future of country," Mazibuko said in a speech prepared for delivery in Limpopo.

"Next year, let no child go without the textbooks they need to make a success of their studies."

She was referring to the textbook delivery saga in Limpopo.

Mazibuko was speaking at a DA Jobs Campaign rally in Polokwane on Wednesday.

She said if the ANC wanted to improve the quality of basic education it would take up the DA's five point challenge.

This challenge was making sure there was a textbook for every child for every core subject in their grade, deliver all textbooks before the school year starts and eliminate corruption in the procurement of textbooks. The ANC also needed to order the right textbooks for the right pupils and match the DA's textbook funding allocation.

"In the Western Cape, an additional R466m has been budgeted over the next four years for textbooks," said Mazibuko.

"We call on all ANC-governed provinces to rise to our challenge and match the DA's textbook delivery record."

The ANC is no match when it comes to a challenge, they just cannot delivery in any manner!

      christelle.james.7 - 2012-08-01 19:00

I don't believe its even about the challenge for the DA. The DA is desperate for our children to get an education. Educated people will ensure a healthy future for our country.

      sedick.gydien - 2012-08-01 20:00

I don't agree ISO. The current ANCadres will beat any challenge when it comes to partying, stealing, lying, fraud, corruption, procrastination, wasting tax-payer's money, blue light races, incompetence, etc.

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-02 09:03

And educated people will vote DA! Win-win situation.

  • godfrey.welman - 2012-08-01 18:38

They will definitly fail on the "eliminate corruption" bit.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-01 18:48

Google Mr. van Dyk...DA operative. Seems the DA don't not regard this operatives Fraud as a crime, Double standards, hey mate ??

      liana.loots - 2012-08-01 19:22

Nice try Victor, no mention of van dyk in the article. are you just stirring the pot because you don't have anything intelligent to say?

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-01 19:49

huh? Oh News24 removed it, hang on ..... ""Three of the five disciplinary committee members found in his favour, while two recommended he be found guilty. Van Dyk was charged with bringing the DA into disrepute by, among others, claiming too much money because he did not use the cheapest transport available and irregularly registering his daughter as a dependent. Committee chairperson, retired Supreme Court of Appeal judge DG Scott, supported by attorneys Werner Horn and BJ Liebenberg, found there was not enough evidence to find Van Dyk guilty, the newspaper reported."" You question my intelligence?

      pws69 - 2012-08-01 21:22

avatar pws69 - Just posted Report commentComments Policy @victor, significantly, but unsurprisingly you omit to mention that the only two DA public representatives on the panel found him guilty. The lawyers and judge found him innocent following the LAW. Now, if you had even an inkling of the labour relations act, you would know that had the DA taken further action, they would have been in contravention of the law, and Van Dyk would have had them in front of the CCMA in an instant for unfair dismissal, had they fired him. Your feeble attempt at painting the DA as a dishonest organisation has backfired spectacularly. I might add, VERY ANC of you to be so dishonest.

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-02 09:10

Come now stay on topic. The reason the Limpopo debacle blew up in the ANC's faces is because once again they entrusted vital services to a company run by ex politicians and cadres hoping to make a quick buck with no accountability. They were completely overpaid for what they had to do and they didn't do the job right. The bigwigs in the education dept knew there was a problem coming but they thought they could get away with it and no one would notice... When will they every learn basic administration skills? Because let's be honest, education is not a priority for the ANC government - if you educate the masses they will vote for other parties. And as we have seen all provinces are not created equal. This would never have happened in KZN or Gauteng!

  • stfrancisbay - 2012-08-01 18:46

'rise to our challenge' ...Its not about that its about accountably, why is this now becoming some GAME!?!?!?

      nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-08-01 18:50

its the only thing the ANC understands, entertainment!!!, if the DA said "get off your stupid, lazy, greedy butts & do your jobs" do you think they would bother to take up the challenge, NO I dont think so...when dealing with babies, you have to spoon feed them.

      christelle.james.7 - 2012-08-01 19:31

The DA is desperate to change things, even do a challenge to improve the delivery of the ANC. How else in the world should they do it - nothing else seems to be helping!!

  • devon.riley.52 - 2012-08-01 19:14

Way to go Lindiwe, challenge them, maybe a competition is what is lacking. Maybe the ANC should be challenged in other areas as well, like healthcare and municipal services.

  • victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-01 19:22

Some proactive politics, well done DA.

  • peter.mansfield.395 - 2012-08-01 19:31

    Clever move!

  • nina.ignjatov - 2012-08-01 19:33

Go DA!!!! Set more challenges!!!! Make them work for a change!

  • johan.opperman1 - 2012-08-01 20:05

There's one thing I still want to know about this whole text-book saga: what happened to last year's text books? When I was in school in the 80's, we had to hand in our text books for the following year's pupils. There was this huge school stamp in the text book where you had to write your name and school year. Some of our text books had names in them from 20 years+ prior to us getting it. When there were new text books delivered (due to a change in curriculum or updated books) it was a huge deal for us. Why do they buy new text books now every year?

  • Wilma Crous - 2012-08-01 20:13

    You go Lindiwe!!!!!

      jans.opresser - 2012-08-04 20:02

  • Lennon Chenga - 2012-08-01 20:20

Guys we can not continue suffering!! Our Pres said Hotstix getting a matric was an amazing achievement!! In what world?? It was good that he wanted to better himself but that's standard education! No more commissions for things that have gone wrong!! Decisions dear Pres, decisions!! Don't be afraid, leave a legacy!! Please!! Malema said yesterday that when you leave he'll be back!! What does that tell you???

      Bless Boswell - 2012-08-02 07:37

Maybe to the prez it was amazing. Imagine how impressed people would be if he made a similar attempt? Though we all know that will not happen.

  • Lindelwa - 2012-08-01 20:32

Michael Bushes, how many Coloured women and African women wear fake hair and have accents? Don't play the person, play the ball; unless you have nothing valid to share. For that matter even White women all over the world wear fake hair.

      Lennon Chenga - 2012-08-01 20:39

You right my sister, it should never be about our blunt noses, dark skin, accents, or "education"! But individual contribution!! We speak over three languages standard! But let's embrace what Madiba said! Let's go head to head! Let's learn from the whites and let them learn from us! Let's prove we are a Rainbow nation and let the smart blacks be recognized! Give my granny a free plot, me I'll work jus like whites my age!!

  • Lennon Chenga - 2012-08-01 20:33

Forget challenges!! Let's start sending condolences to what we deem national disasters!! Farm killings, rape of our people of all races(after all we the rainbow nation) publication of township killings and murderers (after all, black people matter) payment to cooperate companies for bee share holding and their part and contribution to that cooperate! I'm black and I definitely don't want something just because of my race!! I studied, I was bullied I excelled amongst my other lighter brothers!! Let me leave MY legacy!! I don't want you to name Hans Strijdom after me, name me after a new road that was built after 94! That's legacy!! Employ qualified people! Let's pay off our freedom fighters, let's start afresh!! I'm tired of defending us to my lighter friends!!

      Bless Boswell - 2012-08-02 07:34

Thank you Lennon. The voice of reason. Why do you see things so clearly, when all around you others are toyitoying? and breaking down? We need people like you to take SA into a bright and happy future.

  • jans.opresser - 2012-08-01 21:21

this lady cannot be healthy! she has to be diabetic! looks like she has never turned down a meal in her life.she will never live to see the DA in power here, and her death will not be the result of political violence either. within the next few years ALL of her internal organs will start to shut down.

      Bless Boswell - 2012-08-02 07:23

What has that got to do with you? Just know that your miserable life is better simply because she's there.

      Lennon Chenga - 2012-08-02 08:43

Thanks Bless, there will aways be those people with negative unnecessary comments!

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-02 09:05

Ja let's see a picture of you and how hot you are?

      SaleƩ Sithwell - 2012-08-02 10:28

      Never say never...!

      jans.opresser - 2012-08-04 20:01

maylani,I wasnt commenting on her looks, but you cant deny that I was 100% correct about her health? diabetes is one of the common killers of africans and you know it. so for you to attempt to defend her by questioning how "hot I look" serves HER no purpose at all. and one thing you cannot do is tell me that I am wrong. defending her because she represents a political party or faction that you probably support will NOT make her smaller or healthier. and believe you me when I tell you that she is bigger than I am,regardless of how hot or if I am not hot,I am HEALTHIER than she is. if you really want to help this lady, buy her a gym membership and place her on a diet of veggies and tell her to skip the pap!
