Dlamini-Zuma 'will make AU accountable'

2012-07-16 10:02

Johannesburg - Newly-elected African Union commission head, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will make sure its resolutions are put into action, International Affairs and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said on Monday.

"What should change [with her election]... is that there will be more accountability, there will be more fast-tracking of implementations of decisions taken by the heads of state," Nkoana-Mashabane told SAfm.

"That means, spend more time on implementation of our resolutions instead of just creating more and more [resolutions]."

Nkoana-Mashabane said her election on Sunday evening was a victory for women.

Dlamini-Zuma, who is the home affairs minister, would through the AU "strengthen early warning systems, strengthen democracy and rule of law, and unity", Nkoana-Mashabane said.

Dlamini-Zuma, the first woman to hold the post, beat the incumbent, Jean Ping of Gabon, in a closely-fought election over several rounds of voting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Sunday night.

'Accountability', 'Implenting resolutions instead of creating more'. I don't think I'm the only one who sees the irony and hilarity in what she is saying. Lol

      Andre - 2012-07-17 13:44

Madame Zuma's credentials: Department of Health: If you should have any doubt about the honesty of medical doctor madame zuma, please read: She was also the inventor of the garlic and beetroot hocus-pocus and pushed her witchdoctor’s knowledge into the pockets of her drunken friend Manto. She invited hero Mbeki’s to Sarafina costing the taxpayers +R 14million. She puts this moron’s head full with aids-denial causing hundreds of thousand of aids related deaths. Not chickens but human beings. Department of Foreign affairs: To hide her incompetence, intellectual Mbeki replaced her to foreign affairs where she opened the South African borders for the destitute African refugees, Chinese and other communists around the world bringing the economy of South Africa to its knees. Department of internal affairs: Her last and most detrimental job!!! Removed the little work available for the unskilled South African workers and pushing them into crime to survive while she could play the compassionate Queen for all immigrants, legal and illegal. By now, not only the economy is in shambles but the unskilled workforce in South Africa too. Service into all government departments comes to a stand still, money becomes as scares as chicken teeth and South Africa is on the verge of collapse. Poor Africa.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Almost thought I time travelled to 1 April 2013 for a second there!

      Willie - 2012-07-16 10:49

Your comments(more often) are just pessimstic. Give this appointment a chance then we can start with our critics

      jackie.stone.501 - 2012-07-16 11:00

Good point makenawn, it is like Jakalas was born pessimist. He might be a mistake I guess

      rob.baggaley - 2012-07-16 11:03

Forget about the AU, start with the ANC, here, now !

      raath - 2012-07-16 11:05

The pessimist and the optimist work together to form Team Realist.

      jackal666.daniel - 2012-07-16 11:26

Nope sorry I'm not a pessimist just a realistic optimist :)

      jackie.stone.501 - 2012-07-16 11:44

It seems you still yet to find yourselves, go take Psychometric

      jackal666.daniel - 2012-07-16 11:59

Jackie go get some eye surgery and open your eyes to everything that is failing because of their so called management skills.

      raath - 2012-07-16 12:16

@Jackie "Go take psychometric"? It is like saying "Go take yellow", or "Go take radioactive"... your sentence is incomplete. Maybe you should take an English course...

      om.nom.nom.01 - 2012-07-16 15:34

@ makeyawn & jackie: "Give this appointment a chance". Do you remember Sarafina 2 or for that matter Virodene? What I can remember is that there was no accountability for either of these "situations" & I can remember exactly who was in charge.

      piet.strydom - 2012-07-16 23:40

Virodene.... Oh, that brings back nightmares. A case study in corruption.

  • jansteyn4 - 2012-07-16 10:22

Congrats to ms Dlamini-Zuma.A very bright workaholic she is one of only a hand full of honest politicos in SA.I have no doubt that she will do very well at the AU.

      gail.evans.9275 - 2012-07-16 11:17

Templar, you obviously have serious issues that need to be dealt with. She did a great job as Minister of Health, she has been in foreign affairs for long enough to know who is who in the Zoo, and she has cleaned up Home Affairs. And in any case, you ugly and your mother dresses u funny :) So who are you to talk?

      templar.known - 2012-07-16 12:22

GEvans - Yes I do have serious issues; it’s called the ANC and it needs to be dealt with. The Department of Health is a fiasco in spite of the copious amounts of sweet potatoes and beetroot thrown at it by this woman. Have a look at all the criminals, fraudsters, disgraced politicians and general filth that are our international Ambassadors and tell me again she did a great job at Foreign Affairs. I’m sorry but she is ineffectual and unfortunately the mess she will now cause in the AU will be witnessed internationally and will inevitably embarrass South Africa to no end.

      piet.strydom - 2012-07-16 12:37

If I remember correctly, ZUMA once stood for Zero Understanding of Medical Affairs? Let her start "strengthening democracy" next door. The "early warning" system went of ten years ago.

      gail.evans.9275 - 2012-07-16 12:42

Templar, firstly it was not Zuma, it was Manto under the Mbeki administration. What is more, Zuma did not support her ex husband to be the President of the ANC. Like the NATS before them, there is a plit in the ANC, and believe it or not, there are many ANC members who agree with you on the corruption. They are just as fed up. It would really be nice to see South Africans grow up for once, and not always make EVERYTHING a race issue. It really is out of date and out of time and out of place. It would be nice if for once we could just see people as people!

      om.nom.nom.01 - 2012-07-16 15:47

@ GEvans: Do you really think Virodene was such a "great job"?

      bobbi.jantjies - 2012-07-16 15:52

@GEvans granted Templar totally got his ministers wrong by talking about the beetroot & sweet potatoes... nonetheless she had her share of very embarassing effups in the ministry of health, if you are blind to this then just go google for a bit see skattie... then you can look at her track record in foreign for mad bob etc. and then home affairs being in the state its in... VIVA VIVA!

  • Peter Zylstra - 2012-07-16 10:23

A new ringmaster for the dysfunctional AU circus!

  • Irene - 2012-07-16 10:31

Ha ha ha ha ha! She'll hold them accountable? How? Her own thieving comrades aren't even held accountable!

      msendi - 2012-07-16 10:57

      For once… Let's congratulate…

  • thebe.tau - 2012-07-16 10:33

  • Michael - 2012-07-16 10:35

  • bomb.technician.5 - 2012-07-16 10:42 your funds very carefully, they have a tendency to disappear wherever a SA politician, especially from the ANC is involved. Also prepare for anything to be DENIED.........and taken OUT OF CONTEXT. And all Africa's problems will now be blamed on RACISM. Bwhaaaaaaaahahahaha,..........

      Koos - 2012-07-16 12:23

That is true but at least that money will come to SA. Let's call it AA investment.

  • gerald.majola.7 - 2012-07-16 10:44

She managed to stop the Dalai Lama from coming to SA, so at least you know that she loves Chinese food

  • gail.evans.9275 - 2012-07-16 10:48

TO all those making derogatory comments............ as I recall, Die Groot Crocodile was not made of the same metal as Pik Botha. And Eugene De Kok is not considered an example of all Nationalists, even though he worked for the system. Koornhof differed from P.W.Botha. I just love it when predominantly White South Africans tear the house down and never give credit where credit is due. It shows a remarkable lack of intelligence on their part.

      msendi - 2012-07-16 10:59

      Willie - 2012-07-16 11:03

Correct Gevans, sometimes i get a sense that some people just throw in gabbage on this bloggs just for the fun of it.

      gail.evans.9275 - 2012-07-16 11:50

The problem is this. The people who throw garbage never see the good in anything, and do not want to. I admire her as a person, and this has got nothing to do with the ANC, the colour of skin, or whether we are talking male or female. The woman has got more balls than most people I know. And unlike those idiots who come onto blogs like this with their katties and gooi stones. the Lady has laid her life on the line and stuck her neck out where few have dared to go. The AU is a mine field, of corruption , tin pot gods, arms sales, puppet Presidents on the payroll of the CIA and a tinder box for holocausts in any one given place. If anything I sincerely hope that she has a very good security team around her, she is in a very dangerous position. Anyone who challenges the IMF, the World Bank or NATO does not live to tell the tale. Coupled with this is AFRIcom moving into northern Africa, they have moved their plunder from the Middle East to here, and intend Corporatising the whole of North Africa under their NWO.

      templar.known - 2012-07-16 12:01

Die Groot Krokodil was made of metal? Interesting observation. Eugene de Kock is an exception, but still a product of the Nationalists in the same vein as Himmler was a product of the Nazi's. Koornhof differed from PW? Indeed, one was a clown and the other was a tyrannical autocrat, what’s your point? Dlamini-Zuma is the politically correct choice for the times we live in, she was certainly not chosen for her verbosity and vibrant personality. Yes she might be educated and middle of the road, but still an ANC cadre at heart. Rewarded for her association rather than her abilities.

      bobbi.jantjies - 2012-07-16 16:01

you know something GEvans... its not only the idiots who blindly support their party/gov/leadership whilst being shafted over that concern me...its the seemingly educated people like yourself who can't even discern the difference between good & bad leadership... are you seriously trying to say she contributed anything of use since being appointed so long ago? man, you are definitely part of the problem..even blind to the facts... your stupid argument about previous apartheid era leaders just proves that you have nothing of value to add... you should go volunteer to be along side your idol in the AU..maybe base yourself in the congo?

      don.quioxte.3 - 2012-07-17 07:37

Oh yes, banning the Dali Llama was good. FO.

  • jmasha3 - 2012-07-16 10:48

I don't think she will bring that much change. The AU leaders are stubborn, greedy, corrupt and stereotype men who don't recognise and protect the rights of womens in their countries how will they bow to Ms Dlamini-Zuma pressure. We congratulate her and hope she will receive necessary support.

  • mmutlane - 2012-07-16 11:04

ijooooo those are the bad news i've ever heard that is a thief watch your funds are going to dissappear that lady is well known for that she is a pro when it comes to that department, she served under the department of denials and corruption services

  • lungile.ndyibithi - 2012-07-16 11:05

I think she is quite capable of making things happen within AU. Through her experience in government she improved a lot and her leadership abilities are showing in the department and da previous 1 she was heading. She's different from most of her comrades

      rob.baggaley - 2012-07-16 11:13

      Theres that word again...Comrades. It's ministers dammitt !!!! Ministers. It's 2012 NOT 1994.

      lungile.ndyibithi - 2012-07-16 11:49

The word comrade has a very definite meaning, and is very appropriate within government as well. Your problem is that you hate ANC and have been blinded by that, you cant even see beyond the negativity you built around the ANC.

      rob.baggaley - 2012-07-16 12:03

@ lungile. Rubbish ! Time for the ANC to move on from this liberation nonsense & actually start berhaving as a government that knows how to govern. Reveloution has been replaced by Revelooting, so why not comrade ?

      don.quioxte.3 - 2012-07-17 07:40

Comrade means black African in Russian.

  • mmutlane - 2012-07-16 11:18

she is going to bring her crew there and the whole thing start shake watch this space atleast AU have offloaded some of SA's dead wood we salute you guys by saying atleast minus one problem you can come and take as much as possible we got loads and loads of this dead wood, minister i am still without an ID and you are already leaving thanks for nothing

  • ruben.maistry - 2012-07-16 11:21

She has failed dismally in holding office in her previous portfolios. Go and lie once more to the masses who suffer because of her failures. ACCOUNTABILITY???

  • ambauli - 2012-07-16 11:25

This appointment is identical to when people want to be in school and street commitees while their home life falls apart.

  • devon.riley.52 - 2012-07-16 11:31

Well there is the proof that the AU is just a useless talk shop where countless resolutions are made and nothing get's implemented.

  • khanyo.ngwane.9 - 2012-07-16 11:32

Congrats Dr Dlamini Zuma. You have made all true S. African women proud. You have proved yourself and we are well aware of your capabilities. Those who are writing nasty things about you are not your class and are merely refugees in our land. There are however true South Africans of all races, colour, languages etc who are trully behind you save the the scumbags who see darkeness in everything. Bravo....first woman to hold the seat of AU Commission.

      gail.evans.9275 - 2012-07-16 11:36

And so say all of us!

  • koos.vandermerwe.338 - 2012-07-16 11:33

At least she will have a place to run to when the masses try to extract some revenge out of their masters.

      khanyo.ngwane.9 - 2012-07-16 11:39

And that place is called her true home by origin.

  • dennis.minadoo - 2012-07-16 11:43

CONGRATS... I HOPE THEY GIVE YOU A CHANCE MADAME...The AU leaders are Stubborn,Greedy,Corrupt and Stereotype men who don't recognize and protect the rights of women in their countries how will they bow to Ms Dlamini-Zuma's pressure. We congratulate her for her bravery in a man's world and hope she will receive the necessary support.

  • vdncube - 2012-07-16 11:56

Congratulations to Dlamini-Zuma, even though SA foreign policy in Africa is not always consistent as a Zimbabwean it may be a good move. This is because SA heads the organisation to lead to the implementation of the measures to allow for a free & fair election. This leads to consistency and more pressure on zim from SADC & the AU all which are now dominated by SA... and leaves little room for the powers that be to continue abusing the long suffering zimbabweans and getting away with it

      Koos - 2012-07-16 12:26

"now dominated by SA" - and that is the BIG problem. African states don't like that. Let us see if they will listen.

  • vimal.tuckooriah - 2012-07-16 13:35

So she will hold Somali pirates 'accountable', LRA 'accountable', Nigerian scam artists and drug smugglers 'accountable' Just like she was held 'accountable' for the filth streaming into this country daily? Yeah right.
