Johannesburg - The EFF is not holding a rally in Bloemfontein, Free State, over the weekend, the party said on Thursday.

"The Economic Freedom Fighters has received media enquiries about a rally taking place in the Free State, Bloemfontein this weekend," spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said in a statement.

"The EFF would like to state categorically that it has not called any rally in the Free State this weekend."

Ndlozi said the party had learnt that "four egomaniacs" who were undergoing an internal disciplinary process had convened a meeting and were falsely using the EFF's logo, colours and contacts to do so.

"They have also tried to mislead EFF members and the public that the CIC Julius Malema will be addressing their illegal meeting," he said, referring to the "commander-in-chief".

"The EFF calls on all fighters not to partake in this meeting as it is meant to distract and divide the EFF."

On Tuesday, the EFF announced it had suspended Andile Mngxitama and fellow MP Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala.

On Thursday, the party said it was taking disciplinary action against MPs Mpho Ramakatsa and Lucky Twala.

The four held a media briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday, where they announced they had launched a campaign called "Save the soul of the EFF".

Ndlozi said the party called on its members not to take part in the meeting "as it is meant to distract and divide the EFF".

"Those who participate in it will be defining themselves outside the organisation. There is ample platform within the EFF to raise whatever matters, no matter how urgent and uncomfortable. This meeting is not one of them, thus those who are loyal to the EFF must stay away from it," he said.
