EFF denies funding by Mugabe men

2013-07-21 16:05

Johannesburg - Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has denied receiving funding from ministers in Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s Cabinet in order to “destabilise” South Africa.

This comes after the claim was made on the Facebook page of Baba Jukwa, a mysterious poster who claims to be a high-ranking yet disillusioned figure in Mugabe’s Zanu-PF.

Baba Jukwa has been leaking damaging secrets – some of which proved to be true – from within the party for the past four months.

On Saturday, he claimed Malema was being funded by Zimbabwean Youth Development Minister Saviour Kasukuwere, Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, commander of the Zimbabwean defence force General Constantine Chiwenga, and State Security Minister Sydney Tigere Sekeramayi.

This is ostensibly in revenge against President Jacob Zuma and his international relations adviser, Lindiwe Zulu, who has been heading the Southern African Development Community mediation process in Zimbabwe following the violent 2008 polls.

But he denied that the EFF had “approached or been approached by anyone from Zimbabwe or any other country regarding funding”.

He added that the EFF “reserve the right to approach anyone we see fit for help”.

He said they would not take any money that came with conditions.

  • Reza Ryklief - 2013-07-21 16:50

He may not be part of the ANC anymore, but he still knows how to deny like them.

  • Odirile Seemise - 2013-07-21 16:51

Nothing wrong with funding a party to contest elections. The US government has been funding rebels and oppositions in other countries so their interests can be met. Who do you think funded Zuma to oust Mbeki? Ask Frank Chikane. You people know nothing about Politics, you just pawns that the media feeds whatever suits those in real power.

      Basil Mackenzie - 2013-07-21 17:37

So Mugabe accuses MDC of being funded by a foreign power (Britain)like it is a bad thing. Why then is it ok for EFF to be funded by a foreign country?

      Carol Mnisi-Dhlamini - 2013-07-21 17:41

      and i guess u know?

      Willem Louw - 2013-07-22 07:40

Everyone gets funding from somewhere, it's not the funding that worries people... It is the motive and the political connections that come with the funding. Mugabe is playing both sides of the fence, on the one side he is friends with South Africa and wants its support, and on the other side he is back-stabbing and trying to destabilise it. Mugabe is a dangerous snake that turns on his own kind when they oppose him or disagree. He is a dictator in every sense of the word, and good minded South Africans don't want his influence here...

  • Odirile Seemise - 2013-07-21 16:51

Quite right. Most of the people posting here don't even know WHY they hate or fear Malema, the media only told them to.

      Jason Hepple - 2013-07-22 07:12

Because he is a criminal and we see what happens when a criminal becomes the leader of a country... Can't we!?

  • Colly Madzivhaway - 2013-07-21 16:51

Maybe if anc reveal who is funding them,we might get the truth regarding Eff

      Grimble Grumble - 2013-07-21 18:10

You are correct and I agree. So why do people give Thonwi Mudzielwana thumbs down and you thumbs up? Whilst you are both saying the same thing.

  • Robert Gabriel Tsvangirai - 2013-07-21 16:52

      MJ - 2013-07-21 17:46

EFF is nothing more than a vechile for Malema to feed his own economic greed. If they win a seat next year, the payout is worth his while and the party gets election funding from the IEC. Do you think he cares about "the people"? Of course he doesn't, he has proven as much time and time again. Between him and the poisoned pen-pal Floyd, EFF is a cancer of false promise and delusional fiction.

      Sentle Innocent - 2013-07-21 17:55

Ok Mr Malema doesn't care about ppl but then who cares?? The purpose of EFF is 2 show da ANC dat it is nt untouchable da SA youth hv ultimate say on wat dey want with or without ANC..

      Sentle Innocent - 2013-07-21 20:08

If u dnt like EFF n won't vote 4 it dnt stress n focus on ur party like im focusing on mine..ANC ofcourse lol.

      MJ - 2013-07-21 17:33

Sello, Zimbabwe the Country is poor, the Zanu-PF leadership however, are not. Over $2b has been pilffered from the diamond fields alone, nevermind everything else these long-fingered cohorts have stolen from the nation over the past 30 years.

  • Winifred Watson - 2013-07-21 17:46

Malema has not been visiting Zimbabwe for nothing, I can assure you. Malema sees himself as the next Mugabe. We have seen his tendencies on the same type of policies, his attitude toward the whites. No different to that of Mugabe. Many black zimbo's have predicted this, remember they already know the signs better than we do. So, this will not surprise me in the very least. The only thing is if the ANC stop Malema in his tracks by fast tracking his court case and throwing him in the clink. I believe that Mugabe knows he has made a hash of his country and at his age, he knows, when he goes, nobody except his right hand men, will care. He wants to destabilize south africa, hence he is using the only person mad enough to follow him.

  • Louis - 2013-07-21 17:49

Nkwapa Samule Lehong. I am angry that the education you are receiving can't teach you like you deserve to be taught. The shame of it is you have blacks to blame for that and not whites. Poor you.

  • Sydney Mavhungu Sadiki - 2013-07-21 17:53
