Eastern Cape ANC finds ghost members

2012-11-16 09:25

Johannesburg - The ANC in the Eastern Cape has discovered "ghost members" on its membership book, Business Day reported on Friday.

Provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane told Business Day the party had discovered that databases from public and private institutions had been used to get people's details to enrol them.

Some were not even aware they had been made ANC members.

The culprits who tampered with the membership forms also deposited R12 joining fees so they could be deemed to be in "good standing".

Mabuyane said this was discovered when the membership register was checked ahead of branch meetings to discuss the upcoming national elective conference in Mangaung.

The matter was still under investigation, he said.

      LoL..

      fred.murgatroyd - 2012-11-16 09:52

I always wondered how the anc were going to find a million members. probably more than half are ghosts ..... possibly ancestors ?????

      michael.horton.566790 - 2012-11-16 10:08

So that is how we have a government full of uneducated buffoons! They all paid R12 and got membership to the ANC!!! No qualifications required! What a laugh this country is!!! LORL!!!!

      p.borchard - 2012-11-16 10:13

I am more amazed that they actually own up to the corruption than the fact that it took place in the first instance. How many votes were brought out by these "members" since they became "of good standing"

      aniken.vader.31 - 2012-11-16 10:30

1million members my FOOT! Them and their lies! And now what can we say about the National election votes then? Are we supposed to assume that they were ALSO flawed? I remember they created confusion so that people could not vote at all! But imagine THAT combined with GHOST votes..! GRRRRRR DOWN WITH ANC AND DOWN WITH ZUMA!!!!

      heathway.master - 2012-11-16 10:36

Gee these ghosts must be scary. Any deceased relatives recognised.

      saintbruce.bruce - 2012-11-16 10:42

You can laugh Gert but it is a really sad day when the honourable structures within the Honourable ANC are found to be riddled with corruption so that the representatives taking a mandate to Mangaung are no longer able to say - in all honesty - that they have a valid vote to give in choosing the next leader of the ANC in a free and fair manner - as is the call of a real democracy! A mouthful yes. I call on the ANC to delay mangaung until an independant investigation is held into this kind of fraud at every ANC branch and that clean audits of memberships and votes are produced for a true representation at the elective conference - otherwise I cannot trust their process at all. One case of fraud and ghost votes means the whole process is based on a lie.

      lsfreak - 2012-11-16 11:20

And we never suspected this go Zipper :D :D

  • emile.marais - 2012-11-16 09:48

    Corruption in the RSA.

      Spiral - 2012-11-16 10:28

ya nee! Corruption suffers the same fate that this will im sure, & i quote: "The matter was still under investigation, he said." What they dont say is that it will only ever be under investigation & never concluded... the fact that they paid the membership fee for the ghost members shows they have money & will more than likely use the money to sweep this under the rug too! Useless bunch of no good ANC members!

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-16 15:56

YOu have to pay to belong to the ANC?? oh........how does that work? Vote for me but pay me first? Ghost or no ghost, there is someting fishy here :) For a minute when I saw the word ghost, I pictured the sheets..KKK.......and then realised I was dreaming, I am old....

  • eland.snitbul - 2012-11-16 09:50

      johan.uys.75 - 2012-11-16 12:15

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-16 15:58

Yeah its a ghost party....bring your own sheet......cant get that picture out of my head. :)

      peterpeter.pumkineater.5 - 2012-11-16 10:25

no.. politics is man made. 'Evil' isnt man made...so therefore, mankind's greed and lust for racism is actually the 'evil' one here

  • Tawizee - 2012-11-16 09:53

In case you forgot where you are, Welcome to Africa!

      emile.marais - 2012-11-16 09:59

This disease is not unique to Africa.

      emile.marais - 2012-11-16 10:41

The fact is in South Africa we have perpetrators (white minority), victims (black majority) and the liberators (ANC). The liberators are at liberty to rule how ever they see fit, even when their leadership start to become authoritarian and counter-productive to positive development. This problem is not unique to Africa but has happened in Asia, Europe and Latin America.

      tw2066 - 2012-11-16 13:28

How do we call beneficiaries of BBBEE, AA, majority rule, housing preference, hand outs, and recipients of preferential assistance "victims"?

      emile.marais - 2012-11-16 15:40

I'm speaking metaphorically, jeez. Seems people just thump down a comment without actual consideration of what is being said. My point is, the ANC and its alliance have an agitator (whites) in their eyes and a victim they need to protect (black majority) so they feel entitled to rule this country how ever they feel fit, for better or worse. This mentality of entitlement is not unique to Africa, it's a socialist mentality all over the world.

      duane.low - 2012-11-17 04:28

emile.marais, i do understand what you say, but two wrongs dont make a right, and if the "victims" want to be led like sheep to the slaughter then they deserve it! the power hungry ANC are in it for their self enrichments and corruption is at a all time high, not because they black!! but because the "work force" of the goverment has exploded to a size that it unrealistic..... in my youth the goverment was seen as sheltered employment.... today it is much the same but on a way larger scale, we have serious issues with service delivery at muncipal level now because there are people employed to fill quota and not demand at an expected standard. take away ALL the baby parties and have just three or four running in the elections, cos those that dont stand with ANC are split in to too many other groups to make a differance.

  • peterpeter.pumkineater.5 - 2012-11-16 09:53

    hahaha...effing ANC

      peterpeter.pumkineater.5 - 2012-11-16 09:54

but now...how many of these 'ghost members' voted ANC? I want to know that figure

  • 0001000ghost - 2012-11-16 09:58

I wonder if the R12 for each subscription can be traced?

  • Montagnes.Bleues - 2012-11-16 10:01

at least they are honest about it - how often do one get that? :)

  • BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-11-16 10:01

Corrupt to the core. Failure in almost every department. But, the votas will vote them in again. It's almost like some satanic cult rather than a democratic political party.

  • kimard - 2012-11-16 10:03

i think the anc needs a full investigation regarding this - i bet there will be more provinces

  • niki.wessels - 2012-11-16 10:07

To the Eastern Cape ANC: You've already reached rock bottom, so please stop digging!

Does a joke party can lead the nation? Give ANC some points not to under mine please.

  • theMichaelHawthorne - 2012-11-16 11:06

No just the corrupt anc that need to do this... that's why anc has trillions of members and the DA onlt hundred thousand

  • theMichaelHawthorne - 2012-11-16 11:08

R12? What? Are they playing lotto?

  • Andrea - 2012-11-16 11:31

I think they are starting to put together their list of reasons/excuses so that when asked in future why they did not get re-elected, they can say ... "eish, the ghosts robbed us of votes" Or, alternatively, they will count the ghost votes anyway ... they are registered members after all! What a joke.

  • daniel.w.gie - 2012-11-16 12:19

Casper .......also on the books .

  • tw2066 - 2012-11-16 13:20

  • tony.naidoo - 2012-11-16 13:28

    ANCestors!!!

  • sisie.indola - 2012-11-16 14:30

    And that's a surprise - why?

  • flysouth - 2012-11-16 14:39

Interesting - and predictable. Now tell me, how would anyone get hold of data from the database of a public institution? This indicates collusion between those who run public institutions and the criminal fraudsters in the ANC. Like at the Nkandla ANC branch recently where a quorum of members was not in attendance, even though the registration book shows otherwise, we are seeing a massive fraud perpetrated to amass the necessary votes from the ANC branches to keep Zuma in power when it comes time to vote at Mangaung!

  • duncan.phopi - 2012-12-16 22:46

zuma u a hypocrite u talk of rich people buying votes while u a the one practising corruption action. u won`t success this time sorrry!

  • Alan Kennedy - 2013-05-31 09:23
