Info bill papers over criminal state - DA

2012-05-12 22:00

Johannesburg - The ANC has turned from a party of liberation into one that facilitated a criminal state, Democratic Alliance MP Wilmot James said on Saturday.

"It is as ironic and it is painful that the party that contributed so much to freeing us now wants to imprison our minds and keep us quiet," he said.

"It wants cronies and tenderpreneurs who steal your money to get away with it. It wants us to say nothing about corruption when we see it. It wants to paper over what is a criminal state."

James was speaking at a rally against the protection of state information bill in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

He said the bill was "a horrific plan" that would rob South Africans of the freedom they had won.

"If it [the bill] goes through, it will take us back to dark days of apartheid when those of us who spoke up against evil were put in jail."

The bill is currently with the ANC's national council of provinces, who have proposed changes including exemption from legal liability for the disclosure of classified information that reveals 'criminal activity'.

Wilmot praised the efforts of "many organisations" and "the efforts of some clear-thinking and genuine democrats in the African National Congress," for the changes but said another surge in protests was needed.

"That is why we are here today. When I last saw Madiba he said that governments rarely do the right thing unless we take the fight to them," he said.

this is the first problem. the second problem is the average productivity of an ANC appointed individual is about 1/10th that of his or her German counterpart. And its not apartheid, or colonialism. its laziness.

  • Carl - 2012-05-12 23:08

Hammer and Sickle mentality. Hang your red flags up in the toilet! This is a Democratic Country.I want my freedom! Your "bill" belongs in the Museum with all the other communist failures.

  • lownabester - 2012-05-12 23:30

Rigth they turned for a party that liberate the people, to The Most Corrupt Party in the world. May this too come to pass.

      Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-14 04:55

independant government for the CAPE? Whats the point as once it is the only flourishing and safe place in Southern Africa, it will invariably become target for it's lifestyle, security and prosperity. Just another stinking warlords way of stealing what's not theirs via murder, war and plunder. GADS, I feel sorry for all you South Africans of intelligence YOU know what's coming. You must do all you can to fight against ANC gagging the media. The world MUST know .. I have already started on my end, it's a drop in the ocean, but so was it with support for ANC against apartheid 50 years ago. There are many good and intelligent africans (white+black) whom I'm sure will also put forth positive effort to save a country that is otherwise doomed. Send all your connections, friends, family, contacts etc local and overseas below link and ask for their help in bringing it to media attention. Put a link on your facebook, twitter, google page. TO DO NOTHING IS TO CONDEMN YOUR RACE AND COUNTRY TO CERTAIN DEATH! VIVA SOUTH AFRICA!

  • Lazarus - 2012-05-13 06:13

As black south African,I want the ANC out.I am even prepared to volunteer for the DA campaigns.Tired of Corruption.

      ahenriquesfernandes - 2012-05-13 08:48

@Hadebe What a racist comment. I base my vote on performance. The ANC are corrupt. Why are they working so hard to cover up what they do? To keep stealing the TAX payers money that is why. That is your money and my money. The least they can do is run things half way well while they do it, but do they? Unemployment is at 25%, our education and health sectors are a joke, our roads and other infrastructure are in disarray. They have had 18 years to get themselves in order. 18 YEARS. That is a child going through the schooling system. 18 f*king years. And you still hop on the apartheid/race train??? Wake up this is not about race anymore

      Tony Lapson - 2012-05-13 09:18

Eternity, nice points. It's a pity Hadebe won't read any of it simply because he is an ignorant fool.

      colin.dovey - 2012-05-13 09:31

@Lazarus - you are a brave man - Don't be fooled by the panic in the ANC - they can see their days of corruption are now catching up with them. What many people don't seem to appreciate is that 65% of DA support now comes from Black patriots with COURAGE to stand up to the ONCE mighty more!

      jannie.beirowski - 2012-05-13 11:05

@ Hadebe. Who elected you to speak on their behalf? Or are you just basing your message on your own fears, without any proof? Or are you speaking of experience? Please sit down and try to think, although it may be tiring. What experience do you have, or have seen others subjected to the experience you describe? Keep count of all the good things and all the bad things you can think of along the lines of your thinking, and you may start admitting to yourself, if to no-one else, that you are wrong in your way of thinking.

      Elize - 2012-05-13 17:25

@Hadebe what a sorry sh&%t of a person you are, and please speak for yourself!!

      Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-13 23:14

Good to hear this Lazarus. If you start a movement to remove the corrupt replace with ethics, intelligence and real leadership, you will get overwhelming support. But if a white started it, it would brake into a racist war. We need more African brothers like you or South Africa faces the same fate as Zimbabwe. I live overseas and what I'm reading is heart braking and slap in the face to all of us who supported the struggle for humanity in SA. Clearly from statistical facts, as things stand today, life for citizens, black and white was much better under the old system by that I mean, see historical numbers and facts on this site (you might need to scroll way down beyond comments.) I'm stunned!!

      Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-14 00:13

Lazarus... please read my multiple posts containing pertinent information re-statistics+fact and figures regarding crime, health, population growth and other positive benefits during the previous governant verse the ANC (government of today). It might be helpful to you as a Black African in support of your dissatisfaction and reasons as to why the ANC has to be voted out. Many people don't know these facts and figures. Besides corruption, a pressing truth is the number of deaths due to violence since the ANC came into power which is: 174,900 verses 600 related to brutality by the previous government.(of course even one of those 600 lives lost is too much) Nevertheless, figures speak for themselves. If the ANC can change our constitution to remove our freedom of speech and place a gag order on media, then why can't they change the constitution to bring back the death penalty or punishment to fit the crime? The very least of it's liabity to any democratic gov is to protect it's citizens. There was world wide support to free South African's (not just blacks) from the supression of one party. It appears that the present government is once again supressing the nation in worse ways than the country was previously suppressed,OR have I got that wrong?I get this sinking feeling that the ANC to retain power will be no different to Joseph Koni warlords of Africa. Certainly Malema invokes such.My prays to all fellow South Africans- so sad to see injustices prevail outof a just struggle fought

  • zolisa.dlokovu - 2012-05-13 06:15

The ANC has failed to rule this country. They r looting public funds and do not want people to know so that is why we have a secrecy bill. This bill will take us back to apartheid era. The ANC see that they might lose power and are r now doing everything they can in order to stay in power. All political parties and civ. society organisations are opposing this bill. We must not allow them to do as they please.Phantsi ngemithetho yengcinezelo phantsi!

      Tony Lapson - 2012-05-13 09:26

Zolisa, you are very right. Whitenut, you aren't capable of critical thinking. Just keep following the snakes, and hope that, one day, you will become one of the selected cronies to receive free stuff.

      colin.dovey - 2012-05-13 09:33

@Zolisa - stand up for what is right - as you can see from any ANC reaction now, is that they are in TOTAL PANIC mode.....their days are numbered!

      phonis9 - 2012-05-13 13:49

zolisa.dlokovu, jeees i like ur comment u make sense brother,if only all the anc (AFRICAN NATIONAL CONFUSION) voters could see the light like you.then only will SA become the country it was.powerfull.....

      Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-14 01:09

BRAVO! Excellent comment. You as a black african brother will have more effect gathering more support than any white african brother. Tell us how we can help you? What must we do to bring justice for all? We thought we had when apartheid was abolished, but it seems we jumped from the frying pan into the fire. Malema is young and leads a great number of SA's youth in the wrong direction. Is South Africa going to become another ZIMBABWE? Is the Malema's and ZUMA's eventurally going to revert to Kony 2012 warlord type of control? Money and the greed of it with power intoxication creates monsters out of those who possess it. What I don't understand and maybe you can tell me, why is it that White man don't do such terrible things or rob nations that they are presidents, primeminister or in control of? I'd really like to know ... Is the future of South African citizens eventually going to depend on what tribe you belong to? If not murdered, are the rest of us africans all going to become slaves to the warlord with the gun, punga, wealth, propery, drugs and army to protect him? Oh... it's not good !! Nor is it an impossibility ! Hmmm??

      Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-14 04:16

Hallaluja !! An African Brother with common sense. For the survival of the country the black africans need the white africans and the white african need the black africans. The peaceful transition was miracle in the sense that no blood was shed compared to the rest of Africa when governments change hands. This peaceful transition was only possible because ALL AFRICANS ( black and white) worked together and collectively made the decision to do so peacefully. Why have things gone so wrong? Where is the balance of intelligence? Where are all the promises made by the ANC to it's people. Not meaning to sound disrespectiful, but what did Mr.Mandela actually achieve or do to earn the NOBLE PEACE PRICE? I just don't get it. The country's infrastructor has declined, roads are mess other than what was done for 2010 world cup. What re-investments have been made or planning for that matter regarding the life source electricity supplies to the nations. Instead, SA Citizens have to suffer extreme high electricity costs and power cuts so that the ANC can sell OUR electricity to comrades and neighboring countries. The ANC supported Mugabe in his dictatorship instead of helping the citizens of Zimbabwe. ZUMA has seen and visited Mugabe's luxurious mansions, properties etc while the people starve. This is all condoned by our ANC gov .. which makes one realise Mugabe and ANC leaders are supporters of each other. What a disgrace! Based on that, SA future is fortold in Zimbabwe result. Hmm?

We see it in their leadership. They are just not the same party without Madiba, their interests and visions are for themselves and not for the people. When last has any politician taken a busy? Or sat at a clinic all day with a sick child? Or have had to sit at the Labour department to claim UIF? ANC has lost touch with the people and what the general public face on a daily do we cure it? I am from Giyani. (so i am from Timbuktu) The ratio of people that are educated versus those that are not is 10:1. (normally you complete a sentence with a point. What is she talking about, people in general or those at school. Or perhaps people that have been educated, but not NECESSARILY educated) I spoke with a guy last time (there we go, this guy is going to solve the issues in SA. All she had to do is speak to them one LAST time) - they don't trust other parties and they think the ANC is the only way" (FFS there is so much trust running in the ANC, doesnt say much for any other, we will just roll over and play dead and forget about the R20bn just vanishing last year) If you can still look at that comment and maintain there is nothing wrong, then i just give up.

South Africa is the only country in the world where there are more welfare grants than tax payers. We have 47 million people, (about 3 million are whites), 13.5 million welfare grants and 4.8 million tax payers. IN SA, WE HAVE 5 MILLION TAX PAYERS SUPPORTING 13.8 MILLION PEOPLE LIVING OFF WELFARE: more South Africans received money from welfare than from employment with 12,8 million people working - - not all for money - - and 13,8 million people receiving welfare payments from the proceeds of five million taxpayers. "I don't know of any other country in the world where the recipients of welfare are greater than the amount of people who work." SA is officially the biggest welfare state in the world

  • Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-13 23:35

Tuberculosis funds looted: On July 10, 2001, the SA health department announced that it was going to stop R6,6-million in annual funding to the SA National Tuberculosis Assocation because of the ongoing looting of its funds and the lavish lifestyles of its (African) executives, who award themselves R400,000 annual salaries and spend R5000 a month on cellphone calls alone… while millions of South African TB patients go untreated and are wasting away of a deadly, but curable disease. During apartheid, please note that the SANTA executives were seen to be extremely frugal with the governments’ funding — that many thousands of patients were cured annually, and that many doctors and nurses even VOLUNTEERED their services free of charge. The question is this: “why is this man still CEO of SANTA? Why has he not been fired on the spot?” Violent deaths from 1994 to 2000: And the SA Police reports this month — access their website’s statistics at— that a total of 174,220 people died violent deaths, from crime-related violence, between 1994 and the year 2000. So my question is this: “did apartheid ever kill as many Africans as are now being killed by the deliberate neglect and looting of our tax funds by the current, supposedly democratic Mbeki regime?” Source Url:

  • Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-13 23:35

After apartheid: The present Aids-HIV epidemic — against which the Mbeki-regime undertakes no action and still is publicly failing to properly acknowledge — the World Health Organisation estimates that more than 6-million African South Africans will be dead within the forthcoming decade. And the Mbeki-led ANC regime, which could have undertaken a huge prevention campaign such as Uganda’s a long time ago, has done nothing to stave off this terrible death rate. SA hospitals “becoming places of death” In November last year it was being reported in The Star that South African hospitals are becoming places for dying — instead of healing. In June this year, it was reported that our cemeteries were filling up so rapidly that upright funerals were being contemplated to save space. Still, Aids is not being spoken about at our funerals, and the silence and utterly unscientific public statements about HIV-Aids from Mbeki’s continue unabated while our people are dying. Democratic Alliance spokesman Jack Bloom warned late last year that the 20% rise in deaths over the past four years among patients treated at Johannesburg Hospital could only be blamed on the high crime rate and the very serious decline in patient care. Why is our patient care so poor now, and our crime rate so high? The answer is simple: our public funds are being looted by the ANC hierarchy. And the police seem helpless to stop it.

  • Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-13 23:40

Deaths due to political violence during apartheid: From 1948 to 1994 in South Africa and Namibia. According to the HRC statistics,21,000 people died in political violence in South Africa during apartheidof whom 14,000 people died during the six-year transition process from 1990 to 1994.The book lists the number of incidents, dates+those involved. This includes SA Defence Force actions, for instance the 600 deaths at Kassinga in Angola during the war in 1978. Of those deaths, the vast majority, 92%,have been primarily due to Africans killing Africans — suchas the inter-tribal battles for territory:this book’s detailed analyses of the period June 1990 to July 1993 indicates a total of 8580 (92%) of the 9,325 violent deaths during the period June 1990 to July 1993 were caused by Africans killing Africans or as the news media often calls it,“Black on Black” violence – hostel killings,Inkatha Freedom Party versus ANC killlings, taxi and turf war violence. The activities of the Civil Cooperation Bureau as outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, were also included in these figures. The security forces caused 518 deaths (5.6%) throughout this period. And again, during the transitional period, the primary causes of deaths were not security forces nor white right-wing violence against blacks, but mainly due to “black-on-black necklace murders”, tribal conflict between the ANC-IFP, bombs by the ANC and PAC’s military wings in shopping centers, landmines on farm roads, etc.

  • Martin-Cullen - 2012-05-13 23:42

However, during the last decade of the apartheid era from 1948 to 1994, our average life expectancy had risen to 64 years — on a par with Europe’s average life expectancy. Moreover, our infant death rates had by then also been reduced from 174 to 55 infant deaths per thousand, higher than Europe’s, but considerably lower than the rest of the African continent’s. And the African population in South Africa had by then also increased by 50% percent. (source: “a crime against humanity: analysing repression of the Apartheid State”, by Max Coleman of the Human Rights Committee).

BELOW ARE SOME FACTS FOR ALL TO PONDER ABOUT. PLEASE READ ALL THE POSTS AS A WHOLE. Due to limited typing charactors I had to break it up in sections. WHAT AN EYE OPENER FOLKS !! THIS NEEDS TO BE THE ARGUMENT AGAINST PRESENT GOVERNMENT. (not bring back apartheid but the multiple real positive effects it produced -I'm not talking about undignified life here) This article was written by a black journalist. So no blaming whites for this one. The Apartheid Killing Fields BY Vusile Tshabalala August 2001– At the start of the year 1900, the number of African South Africans was found to be 3,5-million according to the British colonial government census. By 1954, our African population had soared to 8,5-million — and by 1990, there were a full 35-million of us — all carefully managed, closely policed, counted, shunted around in homelands and townships — and all of us chafing and griping under the suppressive yoke of the Afrikaner Broederbond’s rigid racial segregation system. During apartheid, our population grew apace however because we also had the benefit of the Broers’ medical knowledge and their excellent agricultural skills. Our population growth and our average life expectancy in fact showed us Africans in South Africa to be in better than average health when compared to other Africans on the rest of the continent: in the decades prior to the official policy of apartheid, (which was started in 1948), the average life expectancy of African South Africans was only 38 years.

I don't know if you are XHOSA, ZULU or other tribe, but have you stopped to think of what would happen if a geneocide against your tribe was carried out(like in Rwanda titsu - Hitu)? You are the future of our beloved country, why not work towards a positive means? Use your education to better SA and then the whole of Africa. Of all the African Countries, SA is the last civilized African country on the continent. What if your cervix, uterus and womb was cut out with a broken beer bottle like Helen Lotter's was in a hate crime? Is that what you want for Africa? read the facts here: Surely to GOD no matter the race, no human or animal should be killed like this !! Tortured farm woman Miss Helen Lotter’s cervix and uterus were completey missing: her sexual organs had been extensively mutilated internally and externally…’ testimony by coroner: I pray to GOD that this is NOT what you have in your heart for any living being. If we don't stand together as mothers, daughter & wives to raise our children to speak out against violence, then we doom the fruits of our wombs to the same terrible fate.Laws can only protect us sofar, but it's up to each one of us to do our part.Hopefully you will agree with me.I know many unemployed who would willing work as teagirl if they were giventhejob

@rasthami.m1 You have got it wrong. THE ANC have painted their own portrait. And the world has witnessed it. The media have only been reporting truths and THAT my brother is the real reason why the ANC want to silence the media. Surely you can really be that ignorant of what really happening? Did you even know that South Africa in the ONLY country in the world where 4.5 million TAX payers are support 12.8 million drawing gov welfare ? DUH ! Usually it's the large number that pays the taxes and smaller number that lives on welfare. And once all the white mans wealth has been taken, businesses fold, where do you think the taxes will come from? Certainly not from the township and squatters who will then occupy the homes that once paid property taxes because no-one will have jobs except the close comrades of ANC leaders and so the whole nation will become enslaved. The whites will all be extent anyway by that time and slowly regress of mankind to bush barbarizm it will be. Great future for what way once a very properous country 20 years a go. I doubt it will even take another 20 to get there at the rate things are going at. And don't think because you're black or support the ANC today, that tomorrow they will still be your friends. You know you can't rely on what they say as the only language is violence, vengence, blood and corruption. I really pity any race that is not of ZUMA or MALEMA'S tribe, skin colour will not save you. Rawanda proved that handsdown. Shameful!
