Jimmy Manyi gets the boot - report

2012-06-08 07:25

Cape Town - Controversial government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi will not be filling his position for much longer, the Mail & Guardian reported on Friday.

The newspaper cited a letter from Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation Minister Collins Chabane which stated that Manyi’s contract will not be renewed when it comes to an end in August.

“He has received a letter [from Chabane] and his deputies know about it. Effectively, he has been sacked from the government, in particular for repeatedly making embarrassing remarks,” a government official told the M&G.

The source said Cabinet ministers had complained about his communication skills.

Sources at the GCIS told the M&G that Manyi was advised by his deputies this week to address staff about his possible departure from the government, but he apparently refused.

Jessie Duarte and Manyi’s deputy Vusi Mona have been mentioned as possible successors.

they are all the same, ill mannered and no communication skills whatsover, that includes YOU Duarte

      Gigo - 2012-06-08 07:42

      Charles-Bronson - 2012-06-08 07:44

One of the country most rassist person ever employed in government next to Hitler. Moron!!

      Rabble-Rouser - 2012-06-08 08:16

Another useless political appointee rides off to be deployed elsewhere to start a new trail of destruction.

      Rabble-Rouser - 2012-06-08 08:20

Vusi Mona!. That's the idiot that got demolished by advocate Naidu at the spy allegations some yeas ago. The presidency seems to rally all the dreggs of society like a magnet.

      Patrick - 2012-06-08 08:22

Good luck finding another job you arrogant git!

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-06-08 08:24

Good news ! The problem with this governments communications has been, that the ones in charge, have been political appointees, and not been professionals from this industry. This counts even more for Jacop Zuma's spokesperson Mac Maharajah. Off course this government has done a lot of good work, like fighting coruption ( i.e Home Affairs !! ) Housing, Electricity,WAter etc. But hardly anyone knows about it..................! That's dumb !!!

      Bryan - 2012-06-08 08:48

@Sganja..Did well at making a complete fool of himself and his colleagues.. But hey, that's just the norm hey bro??

      Sganja - 2012-06-08 09:20

      I'm not a fool @Bryan

  • Lyndatjie - 2012-06-08 07:34

Oh heavens no - not Jesse Duarte... that woman has such an abrasive way about her. I've stopped listening to WHAT she says because of HOW she says it... *shudder*

  • nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-06-08 07:34

yesssss, well done ANC, where credit is due, credit is given

      Ian - 2012-06-08 07:42

credit for what, one clown replaces another

      Gigo - 2012-06-08 07:44

you are saying well done because of what?

      nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-06-08 08:16

well done for getting rid of an arrogant elitist racist, but you probably supported his behavior, so I would't expect you to understand, @ Ian maybe credit is premature, we will have to wait & see who they give the job to, but if it is Duarte, well then all they will have done is replace one racist idiot with another.

      Michaele - 2012-06-08 08:23

I love this Sganja, a right old prick. Never an intelligent comment from his frothy mouth.

      sabongam - 2012-06-08 09:40

@nigel - I have not supported Jimmy Manyi especially with his penchant of making controversial and racist retorts on a few occasions but if I may ask, why is Jessie Duarte a racist? And Ian, I think you've just jumped the gun as Manyi's dismissal has not even been confirmed. Let's wait and see who replaces him before we start shouting from the rooftops about clowns replacing each other. Maybe just maybe it could be a clown you approve of...

  • Vic - 2012-06-08 07:35

So what's new? Very few have communication skills, starting from the top. Say no more!!

      Fussed - 2012-06-08 07:51

      Correction, NO SKILLS full stop.

  • Harold - 2012-06-08 07:35

Good riddance. He was a mistake that crept into South Africa system. I just hope this story is true.

  • Wanda - 2012-06-08 07:36

I can't wait for this arrogant Jimmy to be kicked out. He's a disaster to the Government.

  • Bheki Nas - 2012-06-08 07:38

he will get used to it!

  • i2meleng - 2012-06-08 07:38

Another one bites the dust, thannk you, finally someone with a bit of sense has made the right decision, weren't you going on about "Wether you like it or not you will pay for the toll gates" huh huh Manyi?

      i2meleng - 2012-06-08 07:40

'whether' before you all toast me.

  • winston.mullany - 2012-06-08 07:39

Isn't it amazing what calibre of leadership they have as back up! Jimmy's a twat, we all know that so is the rest of the government. But they say they not going to renew his contract, lets see if they actually stick to it as we all know how they love to change their minds and some refuse to vacant their position.

  • anthonycharles.williams - 2012-06-08 07:41

so doff he spoke himself into sh$T.

  • mphotant.thelejane - 2012-06-08 07:44

He must join DA or go to CCMA lodge claim for unfair dismissal on grounds of poor performance Schedule 8 of the LRA does favour such. I am available for representation at reasonable fee no less than R20 000 for hot shots.

  • Ian - 2012-06-08 07:44

I am quite certain the clown will get a fat golden handshake, just like they all do, looks like they get turns getting golden handshakes, must be an anc thing, get yourself fired and rip off the tax payers

      Ian - 2012-06-08 07:45

oh wait, they rip us off anyway but even more millions by getting yourself fired

      ngcebom3 - 2012-06-08 08:07

Why would a person whose contract is not renewed get a golden handshake? do not expose your ignorance here while you trying to look clever....

      ngcebom3 - 2012-06-08 08:07

  • Phumi - 2012-06-08 07:49

It seems like anyone who the white complex and the anti-majoritarian neo-liberals do not like gets a boot in this government of Zuma. It makes me wonder whose in charge?

      Karen - 2012-06-08 08:15

Phumi, if you are unbiased you will know that Mr. Manyi made a lot of inexcusable statements which further divided an already polarised SA Nation - google some of what he said and then tell us if you think what he said is appropriate. I hear what you are saying about Zuma and the I presume capitalists you are referring to - sadly, people with money have power and I agree that it is the large corporations in this country which are "pulling the strings of the political puppets" - as you find all over the world ..

      Linda - 2012-06-08 08:22

Using big words doesnt make you intelligent... especially when you refuse to allow the facts to interfere with your opinon. It just makes you a perfect candidate for a government position. If it is the African culture to respect your elders - why is it acceptable to be rude and abusive to anyone who doesnt share your views. Double standards perhaps!!!

      Revelgen - 2012-06-08 10:45

Yep, Linda - I share your feeling about people who love to use big words to look good. But Phumi, Manyi is an out-and-out racist, arrogant, prickly and divisive. I guess in your book that makes him a hero?

  • Peter - 2012-06-08 07:50

Oh No.... Not another one that will go to the CCMA and the courts , suspension, paid leave for 3 years etc. Why can these ars#ho^es just accept the fact that they are no longer wanted. All they want to do is to stay on the gravy train - even if they are not working.

      anthonycharles.williams - 2012-06-08 08:30

      it,s a braindead thing.

  • herman.brummer - 2012-06-08 07:51

What about his corruption, surely, this guy as also done something, wrong? That always seems to be the case with anybody connected to the ANCancer!

  • Stlouis Heidtmann - 2012-06-08 07:51

@sganja you must be smoking ganja for making such an comment

  • Ryno - 2012-06-08 07:53

hmmm----all these sacking of loyal cadres just before mangaung?!?!? but let us not moan - he is a useless tonsil. (like 95% of them)

  • jackey.moss - 2012-06-08 07:54

Bye Bye you arrogant Bastard !!!

  • Michele - 2012-06-08 07:58

Good bye and good riddance Jimmy. How you as a person with shockingly bad communication skills were appointed into the position in the first place is a mystery to me.

  • Lwandle - 2012-06-08 08:04

    Good riddance.

  • Paddy - 2012-06-08 08:07

    Arrogant bastard.

  • Karen - 2012-06-08 08:09

Well done, he wont be missed!

  • Blixum - 2012-06-08 08:10

Good bye Jimmy. We will miss you. You were transparent and have exposed the line of thinking of your cabinet very clearly. The next guy will be a typical spin doctor who will not give us a true insight into the thinking of the cabinet.

  • Vince.York - 2012-06-08 08:11

Can SA at last start to go for the best instead of the worst:- Go for MERIT and QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE IN THE RELEVANT FIELD. goodbye zuma - the weakest link.

  • nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-06-08 08:13

maybe the ANC should consider Peter de Villiers as their spokes person, hell he is way better than Jessi Duarte & is need of a job for a pal.

  • Amangwe Amza Vatsher - 2012-06-08 08:15

Hope his successor will do a better job.

  • Jimmy - 2012-06-08 08:23

At least we knew where he stood on issues not this fence sitting nonsense we get from other spin doctors.

  • zaaristotle - 2012-06-08 08:32

Were ministers complaining about his communication skills, or his lack of skils. Me thinks it's the latter.

      nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-06-08 08:48

  • Innocent - 2012-06-08 08:34

It seems government are drunking canoe, why always failed to sport right qualified government spoke person than cadres undoubtful failed.

Jimmy the champion of the coloureds!

      Harold - 2012-06-08 08:56

Derek Mr manyi still has a influence in the private sector employment.

  • Tsietsi - 2012-06-08 08:41

    Good riddance!

  • Johann - 2012-06-08 08:45

How can a peron refuse to leave after it has been proven he cant do his job.Seriously what is the mentality in our goverment rankings. If you dont perform you must go,taxpayers want competent people ,after all we are paying your salaries.People of parlement are chosen by us in trusting them to do it correctly.Simple if you dont do your job to improve this country get out PM,people of RSA want to grow ,we dont need people here that cant contribute to our cause.!!!!

      Harold - 2012-06-08 09:22

Johan Jimmy Manyi,s mandate was to ram government policy down everyones throat wether you liked it or not. He does that very well. So I fail to see why the government will not renew his contract Jimmy is a Kind of Minister of Information as used by Stalinist Dictatorships without the AK in his hand . He is at the moment a victim of ANC infighting and some Anti Zuma cadre has decided he wants Jimmies job so he spreads rumours.

  • phosa.peter2 - 2012-06-08 08:46

Wow! This axe is blade-sharp..First was malema, mdluli, pitso, cele now manyi is on line..i wonder whose next again nd again till they make super 12 on 2012.

  • fran.aphane - 2012-06-08 08:48

At last someone smelled the coffee and not the pipe of ganja?

  • Martin Holder - 2012-06-08 08:48

May I ask without been negative which mps / government officials are doing there jobs in a satisfactory manner and without an acceptable amount of controversy. It just does not seem like news when an official is taken to task for not performing their duties for which they are employed to do.

  • adln.ntsielo - 2012-06-08 08:52

And u thot u were immune?????

  • Harold - 2012-06-08 08:53

Jimmy manyi has also had a big influence in Toyota where he was group manager of racial transformation. He is also influential as a director in Tiger Brands and it leaves one to wonder how much of his racial Distribution policies have determined the employment and promotion stratigies of this corparation in the Cape

  • nkosingiphile.cofu - 2012-06-08 08:56

Manyi should have been fired long time ago. The man contributed to the strengthening of the DA in western cape due to his careless utterances regarding coloured people. It is realy a good riddance. He was never cut out for communication task.

      Shades - 2012-06-09 08:00

don't just blame manyi. Blame zuma, julius and coruption , thievery and all the ills visited on the country (espescially on the poor and suffering) by this ANC ineptitudes. Gone are the days when the ANC could be respected by caring or needy South Africans

  • kosmonooit - 2012-06-08 08:58

Not a moment too soon, thank you.

  • Andile - 2012-06-08 09:05

Sad indeed: being without a job is not a joke.

  • shaakieras1 - 2012-06-08 09:35

**slow clap* finally should have happened ages ago... he has nothing to teach our people or our youth ...instead he chooses to remind them at every opportunity of the differences of our race religion gender etc... south africans like him need to seriously let go...move on for the sake of the people...for the sake of the country! i wonder at times if we remember why Madiba calls us his rainbow nation- do we fully grasp what he means or do we like it because its "catchy"? no where in the world is there another nation quite like ours. Diversity is "OUR THING" let us CELEBRATE IT!!!!
