KZN DA leader in trouble for Nkandla no-show

2012-11-08 09:32

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal DA leader Sizwe Mchunu has come under fire for not joining party leader Helen Zille on her visit to President Jacob Zuma's home in Nkandla at the weekend, it was reported on Thursday.

Mchunu's absence had divided party members and was discussed at the party's provincial meeting on Monday night, the Mercury reported.

Police prevented Zille, who is the leader of the Democratic Alliance, and her entourage from inspecting R248m in upgrades to Zuma home on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, party insiders had accused Mchunu of bowing to pressure from provincial Premier Zweli Mkhize, who chairs the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mkhize called Zille and Mchunu last week about their planned visit to Nkandla and advised them to call it off because "there was likely to be a violent response".

Mchunu said he could not join Zille on the walk to Nkandla because of other commitments, and not because of death threats.

"All Zweli did, as the ANC political head, he felt he needed to chat to me as the DA head in KwaZulu-Natal and I appreciate the call," Mchunu told the Mercury.

LoL sounds like someone is trying to overt the attention away from that R240 Mil TAX payer money that was stolen in my opinion because he did not tell the public what he was going to do with OUR money, fine if he was building a (White house) type of buildings for Presidents to occupy when they are President then we can sort of talk about it, but we don't really have the money at this moment to even think of something like that. In my opinion our money has been STOLEN by a President.

      peter.j.cock - 2012-11-08 09:54

Query .... besides his wives, just why does he have to have such a large "estate" funded by OUR money, for a private residence.

      arthurenlouise.tarr - 2012-11-08 10:01

Get rid of him.He is a Back stab and weak.

      neil.ross.5473 - 2012-11-08 10:04

If only he had built something like the White House that could become a national symbol and something we could be proud of. Instead he (not we) gets a scruffy bunch of thatch houses and a few rondavels in the middle of nowhere that remind me of a cheap conference venue or some kind of Avontuur resort from the 1970's. If that dump cost R230 million, they must be using solid gold thatch... Or somebody is back-pocketing a huge stash of loot. And we all know who that is.

  • osmaseko - 2012-11-08 09:51

  • George - 2012-11-08 10:01

Ma'am is going to whip you my friend. You must comply with protocol. When ma'am says jump you must say how high. Period. You have no democratic right to disregard a call for demonstration by Ma'am.

  • ruben.maistry - 2012-11-08 10:03

The man is not DA quality. Replace him. This entire saga emphasises the anc condoning violence.Least do they realise that it is now starting to bite back, look at the violent strikes across the country.

      thapelo.rametsi - 2012-11-08 10:40

Please givve me those DA quality! All those Black faces in t6he DA are just there to used b Madam to get some few Black votes. Lindi is a shining example i9n this regard. Lindiwe cant even speak any indegenous langauge but yetshe wants us to vote for DA. I only voted for ANC and will continue to do so up until there is a sound Black party as an alternative, onething for sure not COPE. I was in Cape Town the other day and I saw for myself how DA discriminate Black people and yoy want me to officially bring apartheit on to myself?????????? DA must visit the striking farm workers and stop going to Nkandla trying to score some cheap political points.

      mlungisi.magada - 2012-11-08 17:08

Why single out Mchunu when thousands other DA members did not go?

  • lwando.memani - 2012-11-08 10:04

So if u go against the madam u in trouble.how different is that to the ANC?

      sean.potgieter.7 - 2012-11-08 10:24

Its after 1994 buddy, has anyone told you? You don't have to refer to old white women as 'Madam' anymore... Or are you still a slave to what the government tells you to do?

  • gert.swart.393 - 2012-11-08 10:14

  • phumi.ntlabati - 2012-11-08 10:26

Zille is using bullying tactics and has been demonstrating dictatorship tendencies of late. She is power drunk and has lost all credibility of being a leader of high moral standing. Whoever is black and not singing into her tune, she desciplines them, like what she did to Masizole Mnqasela. Sizwe Mchunu must just serve divorce papers and come back to his righfull home the ANC!

      sabelo.l.mthembu - 2012-11-08 10:41

The ANC is failing you right now and you still wanna support them? C'mon. \r\n\r\nTax payers money for his private residence and you think it's okay? Oh okay shap. \r\n\r\nAnd as for power hungry, do you not see the hunger in the ANC? It's like they feed off power. \r\n\r\nBut hey, each to their own I guess.

      alison.ling.315 - 2012-11-08 11:48

Do you actually believe the bull that comes out of your mouth??? What school/education did you get cause I think that your outdated like apartheid and should try read the newspaper more to keep up to date with the state of SA and what an ass Zume is making of all SA tax payers he's the one laughing at you!!! What people should be asking is how's paying for the construction and proof to be given as he word means absolutely nothing!!!!

  • thozi - 2012-11-08 10:36

    Et Tu, Madame Zille?

  • esrom.sandy - 2012-11-08 10:40

It shows how africans nd whites amongst DA express their feelings, don't mind abt Lindiwe she got fat check at de moment

      alison.ling.315 - 2012-11-08 12:15

You just don't like the fact that she has balls unlike yourself and believes in something better then the ANC and she's not afraid to stand against single minded idiots like yourself to show the country how the President of the country is using tax payers money to pay for his " retirement village"!! He can't keep his pants on now the country must pay for all his children and wives to live like kings!! What a joker

  • Thabang - 2012-11-08 10:40

Instead of Mkhize calling ANC members not to go to Nkandla to avoid violence He calls DA to avoid going to Nkandla in order to avoid violence. Does this mean ANC leadership can't call their members to order anymore?

  • klaas.waarzegger.7 - 2012-11-08 10:42

Sizwe is anything but a coward. He openly canvassed for the DA in traditional black areas years ago when this was unheard of. Both his immediate family and him received numerous death threats and even a assaination attempt in the past and not even this stopped him from doing what he thinks is right. Viva Sizwe!

  • sabelo.l.mthembu - 2012-11-08 10:44

The ANC clearly don't know commom respect and their actions show a no care for human life. I myself would have most likely did the same.

  • mzondistanley - 2012-11-08 10:49

The Chairman DA in Kwazulu Natal is a sane Gentleman, Politics should not be about unnecesarly risking one's life!! Confrontation as if Pres Zuma is the first one to have a retirement Home built for him by Government!! Hellen Zille is a Grand Child of Aparthead Presidents!! She is white and originally from Europe!!

      khathutshelo.muafrica - 2012-11-08 10:58

      Well said sir

      pieter.calitz - 2012-11-08 11:20

      pieter.calitz - 2012-11-08 11:42

Oh, I see you are also from Europe?

      lorain.maseko - 2012-11-08 11:44

The Chairman DA in Kwazulu Natal is a sane Gentleman, Politics should not be about unnecesarly risking one's life!! That is the only part of your comment I agree with, the rest? not so much.

      burningdogz - 2012-11-08 12:29

It is astounding how quickly you judge a person and condemn them because of the color o thir skin? Does this behaviour which you exhibit not remind you something like....oh let's say maybe racism and apartheid. Which is even more ironic is the fact that you are condemning a person as an agent of racism using racist methods and ideology. Tsk Tsk. So let's put emotions aside and think logically for a second, using facts to formulate our conclusions. Helen Zille did more against the apartheid regime than Mr Malema. The DA, across the board had greater success than the ANC in governing. The DA's mandate is not very different from the ANC with regards to name changes and affirmative action and closing the equality gap. So basically striving for thebsame goals yet with the tried and tested ability to reach those goals quicker and more effectively. The DA leaders are better educated than those of the ANC. The DA, unlike the ANC is not plagued by corruption and wasteful expenditure and as such the money gathered by DA are actually used to promote the living conditions of the poor rather than the living conditions of a select few such as Zuma and the private jet brigade. I can go on and on and on but I think my point is already valid. The DA is a far better choice as a ruling political party and this based on fact and statistics. So please, take the podium and explain to me why you are voting ANC....or is your choice based on skin color only?

  • Muffin_man_can - 2012-11-08 10:56

Macingwane did a right thing, he must not associate himself with an ill-advised invasion of Blacks by a racist, counter-revolutionary, white woman. Atleast he did not bow to madam's racist motives. Well done, Macingwane!
