KZN branches want Cele to lead ANC

2012-10-03 15:29

Durban - Some ANC branches in KwaZulu-Natal have indicated they want the country's axed police commissioner Bheki Cele to lead the party.

The ANC's provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said: "Some of our branches, they've said to us they are nominating his name and we've said we've got no problem. There is nothing that precludes his nomination."

However, he rejected recent media reports claiming that Cele was campaigning for the job.

"Many people have written in newspapers saying that Bheki Cele is running a campaign against President Zuma. There is no such campaign."

He said that he had been to various branches with Cele and had not witnessed him doing any campaigning. He said that no evidence of Cele conducting a campaign had been forthcoming.

President Jacob Zuma fired General Bheki Cele because of role in the awarding of a R1.7bn contract for police accommodation. The former national police commissioner is engaged in a court battle to attempt to get his job back after he was dismissed in June.

Zikalala said the African National Congress was not "fixated or obsessed" with the selection of the leaders at the party's 53rd national conference in Mangaung in December.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal would hold its nominating conference on 24 November. Zikalala said branch delegates would then consolidate nominations for the party's national conference.

The province would send 974 branch delegates, elected by the party's 828 branches in the province, to the nominating event.

He said although the party had hoped to achieve an audited membership of 350 000 before the nomination process, he was satisfied with the current 331 020 ANC members in the province.

@keith. Stupidity cant even describe them. This is what you expect from a bunch of uneducated criminal party. To earn your place in the top brass of the ANC you got to be found guilty of corruption or fraud and then you have a chance to campaign for a higher position.

  • afrikeni - 2012-10-03 15:52

The problem is - with the voting system of ANC, this can be reality facing us ladies & gents. This should be a joke but aint funny!

Don't waste your time Cele. We need to be led by people who read before signing. No to Cele, Malema, Zuma, Angie Motshekga. Yes to Nombembe, Thuli Madonzela, Cyril Ramaphosa. Mamphele, Mary Metcalfe.

      ingwani.sithole - 2012-10-03 16:04

Mombembe I agree,Madonsela is a DA agent so no,Ramaphosa bought an expensive animal so No,Mamphela likes talking without providing answers so no,Mary Metcalfe I don't know her,but I guess she is also a DA agent.

      jaco.duplessis2 - 2012-10-03 16:11

      @jaco.duplessis2 what do you mean?

      sven.gohre - 2012-10-03 16:33

@Jaco, Sganja has only a 30 watt bulb burning, but unfortunately there is nobody home to even use that little bit of light. So he walks in total darkness and is therefore not at all bright, but rather working in the dark. That being the essence of the CancER party.

  • goodguy.buthelezi - 2012-10-03 15:59

Zuma is losing support.. He is starting to realize that thats why he's Fckng up the state with all these 'developments' be4 he leaves office. This is good news for us who want Zuma out. By electing comrade Cele, they are weakening Zuma's support giving mothlante advantage.

      nosiphom.mazibuko - 2012-10-03 16:42

That is definately the on;ly positive here!

  • bakers.dozen.14 - 2012-10-03 15:59

  • jacques.smit - 2012-10-03 16:09

At least his followers can rest assured they will never get anything from him or the state if he gets into power...Few Billion wasted here, another few Billion wasted there... OH YA, ANC already doesnt care and takes what it wants!

  • ndlovuvincent - 2012-10-03 16:09

Since ANC dominates SA politics,I would be glad to see Zuma being removed procedurally and my favourable candidates would be Trevor Manuels,Ramaphosa,Nkosazana Zuma and Helen Zille.I do not have trust in Kgalema as he would bring back Malema.

      tsietsi.mshengu - 2012-10-03 16:18

All ANC leaders are the same. They owe allegiance to the party more than to the people. So they are not to be trusted, all of them.

This is plain shocking to see how stupid people in pollitics are.

  • magatikele.magatikele - 2012-10-03 16:44

As we all know. The people are making their own choice and it is sad that wrong things seems to be right to them. I hope Anc can try andeducate its members about the importance of electing true leaders not what we are witnessing now. I mean President himself has to go.why are we so careless about our country 's future. It is a sad day in SA.

Think about it; Jacob Zuma, Kgalema Motlantle, Bheki Cele, Julius Malema the list goes on. All have one thing in common: they have an IQ the size of a peanut.
