Land reform needs an act as forceful as war: ANCYL

2012-06-19 22:23

Durban - It is an illusion if South Africans believe they can get their land back peacefully, ANC Youth League deputy president Ronald Lamola said in Durban on Tuesday.

Lamola again called for the expropriation of land without compensation. He said youth unemployment could not be dealt with unless land was expropriated.

"We need an act as forceful as war to bring it back to the Africans."

He said it was an illusion if South Africans believed they could get their land back peacefully.

South Africa needs a minister of nationalisation, Lamola said.

Such a minister would have a mandate in line with the Freedom Charter, he said in a lecture on economic freedom at the Durban University of Technology.

While policemen had been forced to apologise to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, "corporate South Africa has never been put before the TRC".

About 100 people protested outside the hall where Lamola was speaking. Lamola's lecture at the Durban University of Technology started an hour late after journalists initially outnumbered supporters.

As Lamola was being introduced, loud singing could be heard outside the hall. The opposing faction wore T-shirts and displayed posters that read "ANCYL 100% Support for Zuma".

University security prevented them from entering Mansfield Hall.

Lamola said the ANC leadership had ignored the ANCYL's autonomy when expelling its former president Julius Malema from the party.

War? Seriously? Can you even begin to comprehend the ramifications of such actions? Can you even think that far ahead?

      kobus.hattingh.5 - 2012-06-19 22:40

They should simply jail these loud mouths. This is incitement to violence and it makes no sense why the press would even give him a platform by reporting on what he said or think :(

      denise.ryan.5203 - 2012-06-19 23:23

The ANCYL’s latest village idiot, Ronald Lamola, made himself guilty of the vilest hate speech against whites, threats of violence & theft of their property, intimidation & a declaration of war. Why is he still allowed to walk free? Should he not be in prison? Nobody in the ANC condemned him, so I take it they approve of everything he said... The ANC is spoiling for a race war. Almost daily they spew their hatred in the faces of White South Africans with their hate speech & declarations of war against whites of SA.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-19 23:37

What's that old saying about puppies and pissing? Someone remind me.

      thandiwe.ngema.71 - 2012-06-19 23:39

@Lamola and the ANCYL... Your policies are stupid - you will destroy food production, you will destroy exports, you will destroy foreign investments, you will destroy the treasuries tax income, you will destroy the countries infrastructure, home building, hospitals, roads, schools because of the reduced tax income. You are destroying South Africans confidence - I can succeed as a black woman without handouts - I have a company, shares in a mining company and a small holding.. You are and will destroy foreign and local investment, you will create hatred, you are the most destructive element in South Africa and are trying to generate race-hate!!!

      thandiwe.ngema.71 - 2012-06-19 23:40

Sorry for my incorrect ies eg countries instead of country's!

      Smell - 2012-06-20 00:28

Members of the ANCYL. What exactly do you mean by "land". Do you mean a house with a surrounding lawn? Or do you mean a farm? Or are you just somewhat crudely expressing a desire for quick riches, as if a piece of land is an ATM? Occupying a farm without the necessary skills is a waste of farmland. Required skills include intimate knowledge of the soil (including fertilizing and anti-erosion strategies), crops, pest control, a touch of veterinary medicine, the knowledge and skills to maintain farm implements like tractors and harvesters, and the ability to plan, including accounting skills. Well managed farms put the food on our tables. Are the people demanding farmland lining up to gain entry into our Agricultural colleges? If not, why not? I know the people in the townships are desperate. Yes, they need help like yesterday. But really, there are no shortcuts to success. As long as our government fails to provide opportunity and birth control, and fail to secure our borders, there can be only one outcome - failure and ongoing poverty. How can an unabated population explosion make sense in the setting of hunger and joblessness? Finally, the vast majority of Euro-Africans in South-Africa do not own farm land, so why should you pick on farmers to give up their assets without just compensation?.

      Smell - 2012-06-20 00:39

Paul your generalizations about Africans are horrible and misguided. Many of the nicest and smartest people that I know happens to be African. And it is fairly obvious that the Euro-Africans espousing Far Right ideals in South Africa are not exactly Nobel Prize material, despite centuries of generous opportunity for intellectual advancement

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-20 00:47

Paul you chop read my comment above. You're worse than those you hate so much.

      ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-06-20 01:01

Ronnie doesnt even look south african .. he looks like he's from Congo or somalia or whatever. hopefully he's here illegally and we can deport his ass. ;)

      ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-06-20 01:06

and hey Ronnie boy, forget about land takeovers being in line with the ANC freedom charter, because theres something that trumps that stupid charter and its called the Constitution of South Africa

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-20 01:46

Lol not sure who needs a hug more - Ronnie or Paul. Or should I be the bad guy and send them both to the corner like the little babies they are? Hmmm. It's a tough decision.

      Paul - 2012-06-20 02:04

@HUGH As you have so rightly pointed out the race of the inventors all of them are AFRICAN AMERICAN. The point exactly I was trying to make. AFRICAN is not just being "black" If I am supposed to be responsible for my actions why are others exempt? The issue is not the "race" but the culture of inaction and the lack of willingness to better the living conditions of all. Yet have the balls to blame everyone else. Having a system that elevates unworthy nepotists, a large crony club above real hard working and worthy people who can lead and make this a better place for all. The excuses is not what has happened in the past. Its about creating a future for us all. The past 17 years has all been about lip service and tenderpreneurs. Hiding behind the excuse of apartheid and whatever other crap that can be dredged up. I have been and worked in 38 townships in SA for the past 22 years. I don't just talk crap. I actually help the people that really need it, from my own pocket and time. I don't hate black people. I hate people who only look for a comfy excuses and not willing to walk the talk. This is about putting the country before the individual. EQUALITY BEFORE ENTITLEMENT NEITHER RACE OR INACTION IS AN EXCUSE!!!!! YOU JUDGE SOMEONE BY THEIR ACTIONS NOT THEIR TALK. The YL and ANC talk too much and do way to little and it is acceptable? I think not !!!!

      mundu.olewega - 2012-06-20 03:09

      Bring it on flapdrol.

      smellarat.smith - 2012-06-20 06:37

Well said PhilMemon. 1652 brought people together that were separated by the mists of time. And being born into a culture is not an accomplishment, it is a random event. I happen to be Euro-African, but I just as well could have been a proud Zulu or a Xhosa professional, deeply offended by what Paul had to say. My fellow Euro-Africans, do not insult all Africans when you take on the illiterate and the irrational in the ANCYL. It is not just morally wrong. It is also a matter of survival in this beautiful land - we need African friends to survive here. Get it?

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-06-20 06:56

what a retard. go back to limpopo lamola

      Andre - 2012-06-20 07:04

I never even knew Julius Malema is such a good ventriloquist !

      merven.halo - 2012-06-20 07:13

"They achieved a peaceful transition from Apartheid," That is bullshait PhilMemon, peace was part of the CODESSA deal. You are clearly a youngster that only listen to ANC propaganda and never read up on history yourself. Google CODESSA. With more than 3000 farm murders on WHITE farmers in the most brutal ways you can hardly call the New SA, peaceful. Interesting to note that over 40 years of Apartheid the government only killed 7000 people where the ANC killed 16000 in the last 2 years of Apartheid, so much for being peaceful.

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-06-20 08:04

malema still calls the shots in the yoof league , like they say, he is still their leader,, someone with a rifle and a death wish needs to sort malema out

      William - 2012-06-20 08:10

@Smellarat: I very much like your comment: "Being born into a culture is not an accomplishment". That is the exact sentiment that, unfortunately, too many readers on this forum do not understand. @Merven: So what, you would have preferred a Zimbabwe-like transition? Or perhaps Congolese? Or perhaps Kenyan? Or...take your pick. Nobody is denying that the current situation is an absolute catastrophe & horrific. However, I was responding to Paul's baseless racist rant that is simply idiotic. Like Smellarat says, being born into a culture is no achievement. Methinks you and Paul are of the opposite opinion? Do you take credit for all White people's inventions? Really? You gonna take credit for all the American, Russian, English, etc inventions, even when Paul said Black South Africans can't take credit for African Americans' inventions because they're American. Really?? Why do you get to take credit then??? Because you White? Really?? And and the same time you like to point fingers and accuse others of a culture of entitlement. Really?

      Mike - 2012-06-20 08:27

@Hugh_Influence: All of the inventors that you have mentioned did not actually invent anything new, they merely made modifications to existing inventions. They are all American anyway, not African.

      Susan - 2012-06-20 08:33

R3NDI3R: "Didn't the Zulu's do the the Xhosa's what the Afrikaner did to the Zulu's? " Not quite. The Afrikaners actually tried to purchase ground and only fought them once they were attacked - and Then, totally destroyed them. Mmm - a lesson that could be taken to heart by ANDYL

      jack.milosevic - 2012-06-20 08:38

Lamola said youth unemployment could not be dealt with unless land was expropriated. my goodness look how much land Africa has, i ask you lamola what have you done with this land in Africa, surely by you reasoning everyone on Africa must be employed, but the truth is they're not...infact the only reason their all still living is because of western aid. Why is South Africa the power house of Africa??

      merven.halo - 2012-06-20 08:43

'So what, you would have preferred a Zimbabwe-like transition? Or perhaps Congolese? Or perhaps Kenyan? Or...take your pick. ' We are having a Congolese type of transition, why do you think the ANC disbanded the Commando system, disarmed the farmers, sing Kill the Boer songs and refuse to acknowledge farm attacks for what it is and not 'failed robberies?'. All to be able to do their genocide under the international radar.

      Warmonger - 2012-06-20 08:53

Well said Thandiwe, the country will collapse into a 40 year depression if the ANCYL gets what it wants, SA may never recover & only civil war & bloodshed will remain, there will be widespread poverty & hunger, the economy will be completely destroyed, ALL will loose, there will be nothing left, idiots like Lamola need to shut up before they do more damage than has already been done by Malema, they are just plain stupid, there are plenty of examples of this in Africa, & still we see fools on this forum supporting these idiots.

      Eye's Cue - 2012-06-20 09:15

Oh p-l-a-e-s-e-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! Don't even worry about organisations like the ANCYL!!! They are not worth it, and they count for nothing. Look at Malema, this guy is looking for the attention that we all paid to JuJu's 'theories' and where might I ask is he today??? Hee hee!!! It's just a lot of hot air from some 'hotnots' that can't think beyond some notion inside their heads! Cool it Al.chemist.7106. These 'dogs doylies' actually come up with these ideas to get a rise!!!

  • Billy - 2012-06-19 22:39

"South Africa needs a minister of nationalisation, Lamola said" another person on the anc payroll, only to be suspended with full pay so the next person can take the position and get paid too. i assume you probably think malema should be this new minister.. lol on a serious note, this guy is literally asking for war while speaking on a public platform, is this not against the law??

      John - 2012-06-20 03:04

It's not against the law if you are cANCerYL.

  • Lacrimose - 2012-06-19 22:39

uReally wishing to nderstand which land do we need an act as forceful of war to get? Is this agricultural land, national, provincial, municipal or privately owned? And also to ask, is land the real issue? Is it not joblessness and a no-hope future that has led you to imagine that having land will remedy? Govt by its own admission, has NO statistics, post 1994, as to which racial groups own what % of land. And also by its own admission, still own almost 70% of the land. So are you going to war with your own government or are you out of ideas as to how to solve the problems your own govt created?

      denise.ryan.5203 - 2012-06-19 23:35

Like I said and I'll say it again the government of South Africa owns millions of hectares, and is the largest land owner in South Africa. Instead of offering this land to South Africa’s poor people of all races, the ANC focuses on making the blacks envious of the white land owners who produce most of South Africa’s food.

      Denny - 2012-06-20 00:06

Yeah but it isn't really land that is wanted - it is wealth. Land just isn't worth as much with out all the improvements which they want pre-installed.

      denise.ryan.5203 - 2012-06-20 00:55

Most black people do not want to farm... They are HOMELESS not LANDLESS! They want homes near the cities. The SA government is clearly confused about the needs of its people - they want housing NOT farms!

      Keith - 2012-06-20 07:29

No, I think it is more a case of having land to graze your cattle and for your wife to grow a patch of mealies & pumpkins.

      rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-06-20 08:09

Is it really about land (farms or houses), I don't think that it is. I believe that it is more about trying to claim 'the land of their fathers', or a homeland. Very emotive, and because this concept is usually in conflict with legal possession and title deeds, it is an extremely contentious issue between established societies and indigenous peoples who have been brainwashed to believe they are entitled.

  • etienne.gerber.3 - 2012-06-19 22:40

Mr Lamola, what did you have in your coffee, or what did you smoke prior to your speech? How can you talk such drivel? I can recommend a really good psychiatrist. That is what you need - your head read!

  • Tony - 2012-06-19 22:42

This guy is a nobody. Why give him any airtime? He had about 10 supporters there, 30 people who came to laugh at him and 20 journalists with nothing better to do. There were more people outside booing him than everyone inside. Question should be raised as to who allowed him to speak there. Fire that person for an inappropriate joke.

  • sapepa.sapepa - 2012-06-19 22:45

And if they get the land? Then what? How will land magically create employment if no one has an idea on how to use the land. Some folks just want to be part of things so they do and say whatever they can just so the political spotlight can shine on them. Lets give this guy just a few acres of land and see what he does with it.

      Henk - 2012-06-19 22:56

They fail to understand that farming is in fact one of highest risk businesses to run. Poor sod.....

      denise.ryan.5203 - 2012-06-20 00:26

Ask not what the black man has done to help himself, ask what the white man has done to help the black man.... When will S.A. whites declare independence in the Western half of the country and leave all non-whites behind? There are Whites who stay in SA because, despite all the efforts made by the government to dispossess them, they can still make money. The genius of White people is to generate wealth. The wealth can be taken away, but not the means by which it was made.

"We need an act as forceful as war to bring it back to the Africans." Was he misquoted? He probably meant "Black Africans". Cause I'm white and in I'm an 'Afrikaner', which is the Afrikaans (dialect from Dutch) translation of African.

      Geronimo - 2012-06-19 23:11

@jones.mkandawire - I'm a whitey and I'm just as African as you. Just as black people born and raised in America or Europe for generations are "Americans" and "Europeans". Get over it.

      boltonbarry - 2012-06-19 23:13

When I retire and return with my S. African wife to SA and become a citizen of SA can I be called "American-African" LOL

does he not realize that if he gets what he wants (expropriation) then ultimately in the end his OWN people will suffer the most...

      scebberish.umfazi - 2012-06-20 09:09

As long as he gets what he wants, do you really beleive he even cares about his people?

  • Erna - 2012-06-19 23:53

If Lamola isn't careful he'll be joining Julius and his mates!

  • koos.vandermerwe.338 - 2012-06-19 23:59

To say war is not nice is an understatement. I've been there. Not nice. But you know what, it us only a matter of time before someone is going to their bluff. You don't punish a dog that eat eggs, you kill it.

  • konfab - 2012-06-20 00:00

Be careful of what you wish for, you might just get it.

  • Dave - 2012-06-20 00:01

The only people authorized to \\take their land back\\ would be the Khoi.....and not Black South Africans. If White South Africans are seen as \\not South African\\ why then do you think you as Blacks are allowed to work and study in Europe and America and the East. It's time to put a stop to this \\I'm Black Bulldozer\\ that suggest they are entitled to everything everywhere.....just because they are Black. You are now sounding like the appartheid whites who thought the world owed them everything just because they are white. Just look at the rest of Africa - what happened Ronald McDonald? After the so called opressor left they all (except the corrupt governments stealing from their own) fell into worse poverty than before. Genocides and Food shortages being an everyday occurence and my oh my - what a wake up call to see the rest of the world now has to aid in the feeding of your brothers.....Idiot. Racists like you should be banned from typing and reading (also brought to africa by the opressor). And I'm not racist - I'm a realist....And well done News24 for giving this idiot the \power\ by even reporting on crap like him. Just another small nail of hatred in the coffin.....

Saigon.. Agree! Well said Israel! \r\n\r\nThis is what I have to say to the ANCYL: \r\n\r\n\r\nThere are things that we can never bring back: eg. The past, the spoken words, and wasted time. So you we must always think twice and act wise.! \r\n\r\nGet a new Minister on HOW TO FARM and one with major experience.. Are there even Training Programs in place on HOW to actually farm successfully and feed OUR nation? Farming is extremely hard work and very disciplined and 7 days a week of back breaking dedicated work.. That's the challenge you should be focusing on, not Land Grabs and pilfering.. Show the Nation in a respectful humble manner that this CAN be achieved via government land that is standing vacant! Some good Boere might even lend a hand at showing you how instead of making enemies and dividing this magnificent nation! We are ALL Africans, regardless of colour! There is NO such thing as \get rich quick schemes\ when it comes to farming..\r\n\r\nSo if you're waging a so called war, then South Africa is heading straight to hell, no detours! You may be trying to impress people by saying what they WANT to hear, but the reality is you're screwing things up even more.. \r\n\r\nTo experience next level living and thinking, you have to be a next level thinker.

  • JohnnoBfree - 2012-06-20 00:17

And what of the land already given to black people? Are they suddenly rich? Are the farms productive? I do not think so! Ronny you nimrod, this not helping your country or your people.

  • RRRainium - 2012-06-20 00:24

Lamola, former President Thabo Mbheki said it clearly that South Africa belongs to everyone who lives in it, Black and White. Period, The constitution wont allow you to start a war at such a younger age. ANCYL is cursed

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-20 00:43

      scebberish.umfazi - 2012-06-20 10:30

Problem is, you dont need permission to start a war, just guns and some looneys, of which SA has many!!

  • Dean - 2012-06-20 00:40

The ANC Youth League is a millitant group and not a Youth League, all they do is insight violence........ And then blame everything on the whites........ This oke will land up exactly where Malema did, you fool!!!!!!

  • tngulube3 - 2012-06-20 00:45

You know Mr Lamola if listened to J.Malema he talked positive and negative ideas but our government choose to listened to negativity in order to attack him, they need a leader who can withdraw money and shut up until the ANC loose power in 2020.

  • arthur.hugh - 2012-06-20 00:46

  • emile.vanrayner.7 - 2012-06-20 00:49

ok, so we "got rid" of malema and now somebody worse has sprung up. i wonder how long it will be before he gets his own posse of like-minded idiots. and lets say we manage to get rid of this clown as well, hopefully before all the farms are burnt to the ground, how long until a new jackass pops up to claim the throne? to anybody still voting anc - stop that, for your own sakes people

did they buy the land?who gives them the right to want land back & why?Land reform is for proven owners, not just land grab like in Zimbabwe ,most framers 95% bought & paid for land,no one did anything with the land for 100's of years now take it back??

      tobydt - 2012-06-20 07:08

  • Alank1949 - 2012-06-20 03:34

I have figured the whole thing out. When these new kids on the block talk about war, they automatically become war veterans as their brothers do in Zimbabwe. War veterans my AS#. Try going to war and you may never mention the word again!!!

  • tshivhombelaf - 2012-06-20 03:52

One of African Liberation stalwart in the name of Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia could tell this populist boy a thing or two on the failures of 'nationalisation'. The term is not romantic as it sounds. This is simply 'Chinalisation', a quest for China to get a chunk of Africa. Across the border he should ignore the denialist Robert Mugabe and ask ordinary Zims about poverty that landgrabs brought upon them. This boy suffers from inferiority complex and his upbringing must be traced. How do you expect someone who cannot raise a cabbage in his/her backyard to run a farm? I am pleading with all young S. Africans to work hard to fight corruption and tenderpreneurism. The only system that is killing SA is tendering system which let few individuals to pocket millions which are later used to indoctrinate youth politically. eg. A man who owns a security firm would pay his employees R900 each and he would home R90 m for himself and his family. If these jobs/services that are tendered for were officially occupied by youth based on their competence, it would have addressed youth unemployment by 50%. Youth of today would compromise everything over a bottle of beer. Most youth are bought beers for attending lectures of this nature. Lamola is a youth with millions of rands now and far more richer than youth who are educated than him and wherever he is now he still uses his influence to hire his friends and relatives. Is it Lamola's interest for the youth or is it his power greediness that would keep him in millions for the coming years that makes him talk like this? I think is for his own political survival. Youth have the rights to decide their own destiny with or without him.

      Thando Tdoz Kubheka - 2012-06-20 05:03

tshivhombelaf i totally agree with you. South African Youth is so lazy they do not want to go to school and expect posh jobs. I know some white farmers can be harsh but they are doing a pretty good job when it comes to taking care of South African economy. Truth be told very few of us can honestly do well. we are so greed for power once we are in top management we forget about the poor ppl and start bagging money to our own selfish reasons. this boy what does he know really about all this. ANCYL were in diapers when Zuma and were fighting apartheid but u'd swear they were in it maybe we must do away with ANCYL they are still immature they talk crap. we must all work hand in hand for a better South Africa.

      tobydt - 2012-06-20 07:11

Lefa - Laywer my @ss. You need to be educated to become a laywer. And based on this goons understanding of economics... he's not educated. Wake me up when the YL gets an educated person as its leader and spokesperson.

      Lefa Kom ek wag!!

      Timothy - 2012-06-20 10:14

@ Lefa Last time I checked Lefa the only Africans living by the sea before the Zulus came were the Khoi. What do you know about the sea? Fish come from it right? Who does all the fishing around here? You know when all the chicken farms get broken there will be no more KFC right?

  • Lesiba C Mmotlana - 2012-06-20 04:59

      Livvi Krige - 2012-06-20 05:50

Well said. Farming is hard work and a certain sector is not accustomed to that!!!! they shout their mouths off about land reform, but doubt they would want to work the land.

      tobydt - 2012-06-20 07:12

duma /sgugude - Go get yourselves educated rather. Farming is hard work hey. Youths today dont like hard work. They all want to be made directors and CEO's with zero experience :P

  • blaauw3 - 2012-06-20 05:36

Let’s be honest… With the large number of farm killings and the genocide of the “Afrikaner Boer” they are not threatening war, it already have begun.

      ratsaka.eugene - 2012-06-20 07:09

That's the most ridiculous and most idiotic comment I've ever heard or read. Genocide? Do u have any idea what genocide means?

      blaauw3 - 2012-06-20 08:22

Genocide is defined as "the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group. There are 8 stages to genocide… This article speaks of stage 5 & 6 namely “Polirisation” (Hate groups broadcasting polorising propaganda) and “Preparation” (Victims are identified and separated out because of their ethnic or religious identity). The next stage is “extermination”. So no, we are not seeing the devastation yet but all the signs are. This retard is propagating the genocide of an ethnic group; the ”white” South African.
