Lonmin's role in strike should be probed - YCL

2012-09-08 19:18

Durban - Lonmin's role prior to the shooting of miners in Marikana should be investigated, the Young Communist League said on Saturday.

Secretary Buti Manamela welcomed investigations into the incident but stressed that Lonmin's role and the reasons behind the protest by miners needed to be investigated.

On 16 August, 34 striking miners were gunned down by police at the Lonmin mine in the North West province. Another 78 were injured.

"People do not go on strike because the police are not properly trained," Manamela told delegates at an anniversary celebration of the SA Student Congress at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

“Lonmin`s role must be investigated” for what Buti? Fun? You cannot just demand an investigation. Such things cost money, the little that`s left once you fatcats in the Alliance have misused ans misappropriated most of it

      johann.oosthuizen.980 - 2012-09-08 20:06

YCL's role in the strike should be probed.

      wesley.nel.5 - 2012-09-08 20:13

ANCYL and YCL roles must be investigated in tne Lonmin strike

      max.reynecke - 2012-09-08 20:37

and the "Koeksusters Klub van Koekenaap" demands that Buti be probed and investigated to see if it has a braincell...we suggest that the probing be done with a nice big pineapple.

The problem lies in the fact that fat men who are 35 years old and have wives and children and beards still classify themselves as the “youth.\ Hence their refusal or inability to grow up

      heathway.master - 2012-09-08 23:00

The solution to all the terrible problems this country presently finds itself in are just so simple, yet so far away. 1 Crush and disband all youth leagues 2 Crush and destroy all labour unions 3 Kill all corruption in State Departments 4 Make all civil servants accountable to their job descriptions and fire those that fail 5 Elect a president of substance. These 5 factors would allow the country to grow and prosper as never before in the history of South Africa. Such a disaster and crying shame that not even 1 will ever reach fruition.

What a load of rubbish. The shooting, whether right or wrong, had absolutely nothing to do with Lonmin. I am surprised that the Race card has not been used. Anything but take responsibility.

      juan.prinsloo.750 - 2012-09-08 20:11

Well the communist doctrine dictates that free markets and private enterprise is evil.

  • - 2012-09-08 19:43

I have to laugh at this - only in SA do we have so much "probing", and applying "ones minds". We make the martians look tame.

      juan.prinsloo.750 - 2012-09-08 20:15

Maybe that's why we are in the crap, morons applying their dangerous minds

  • mark.haupt.31 - 2012-09-08 20:12

You lot should be asked to explain why you still exist. Surely there can't be many who still believe that communism works, can there?

  • bobo.jane.1 - 2012-09-08 20:16

Your communism fails...It has proven to be a failure the world over..So,there is no place for your marxsist/communist ideology in the New Democratic SA.

Can we put the issue of lonmin to rest?I am tired of politicians scoring polical points.Manamela is living the same lavish life as capitalist Malema. Communist failed in whole world as it encourages exploitation, laziness and dictatorship.Think about animal farm.

YCL asked a question. Let's get answers. This black gvt is scared to probe into the hard questions. I don't know why whites hate this gvt because a true gvt of the people by the people for the people would not let Lonmin exist after the tragedy Marikana. In other words this ANC gvt is scared of upsetting you guys so don't hate on them they will never do anything to hurt you guys.(And I am serious)

is it not a possibility that people when going on strike should consider different behavior , withhold your labour sing songs , but intimidation , violence , weapons should not be part of a strike and whether you like it or not they are the cause of the miners deaths ,

  • rebaone.keameditse - 2012-09-09 07:11

The frastrations of the SA mine worker are a result of what? Capitalism/ Socialism/ Communism. When the rich get extremely rich at the expence of the masses what do we say. The Illuminati which is the mother of all ecomonic instabilities all over the world through Globalisation is indeed Supreme and People bow to it. They are your G20, they Created Capitalism for us and they are sustaining It. Why people dies? Capitalism the god of exploitation. SA is in crises because of Capitalism which flourished well from 2000-to date.

      john.cryink - 2012-09-09 13:27

Just remember it was the socialists(Hitler), Communists( Stalin, Mao,) that caused hundred million people to be killed

      raymond.buis.3 - 2012-09-10 15:04

@john the Nazi's were fascist not socialists. @rebaone are you stupid. Communism and socialism have been shown to be flawed systems even more so capitalism. No society can function under socialism mainly due to the fact that it requires absolute equality across the board . Now don't misunderstand equality is a good thing as in we all have the same rights and responsibilities , but absolute equality is tantamount to everyone is exactly the same and deserves the same remuneration eg doctors are the same as street sweepers . Which as you can see is bs . So please before you comment think buddy. Maybe go read animal farm by George orwell .

  • douglas.reid.921 - 2012-09-09 07:12

I can't believe the youth of this country are so ignorant. These youth leagues are the homes to morons. If you haven't got anything worth saying then please just shut up.

Were the mine managers on strike or what reason is it necessary to probe Lonmin. People go on strike due to being told by unions of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Furthermore idiots who have never done a days work agitate to gain popularity.

  • tshepo.maganedisa - 2012-09-09 09:11

How rich of Manamela, when this thing 1st started his comment was more on cops side, because at that stage evidence were pointing against the miners and now that the tables have turned he now wants Lonmin to be investigated, come Buti you are indecisive and hypocritical dont you think?

  • glen.e.huysamer - 2012-09-10 13:01

Lonmin's role, management style, interconnection with top union leaders and ANC government, and how the orders came about, ordering in the police to confront workers should definitely be up for an investigation, There should be no need for the YCL calling for this, just another bunch of political scavengers, trying to score points. However I agree with them and in depth investigation needs to be done, all round, and sooner than later as it is clear the fall out origanating from the Lonmin Massacre is growing and soon will be unstoppable. ANC/Alliance lip service, attempting to scapegoat on the white minority race card once again is only helping to fuel the anger of the workers on the ground.
