Mabe aiming to lead ANCYL - report

2012-06-04 09:05

Johannesburg - Reinstated ANC Youth League treasurer general Pule Mabe is apparently aiming to succeed Julius Malema as president of the league, it was reported on Monday.

The Times reported that Mabe, who was speaking at a Gauteng ANCYL meeting at the University of Johannesburg's Soweto campus on Sunday, seemed to confirm reports that he had ambitions to lead the league.

"If you are a leader and you don't have ambition, then quit. Our members must be inspired that their leaders are not cowards. We have ambitions," he said.

Mabe, who was removed from his position following a vote of no confidence last month, was reinstated after African National Congress secretary general Gwede Mantashe reportedly intervened.

Simon Molefe, the Gauteng ANC's deputy chairperson, said the province would support Mabe.

"Comrade [Mabe] has been part of us and we will continue to make sure that people who have been expelled from the movement don't run the organisation from their graves," he said.

"We are not going to allow that. So no one must go and stay in his [Malema's] farm [in Polokwane] and hope that the youth league worship him continuously," he said.

Interesting, can't wait to see how this unfolds. Will the ANCYL stick with its historic nature of revolutionary ideas and far-fetched comments, or will it seek a new more moderate ideology that maybe fits South Africa better at present.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-04 10:09

Or give 'em all guns, lock them in a hall, last man standing gets the job.

      Raymond - 2012-06-04 11:58

But I thought that the league had not accepted that juju was expelled. They declared that he would remain their leader. Confusing....

  • netswera.livhuwani - 2012-06-04 09:22

Stupid ANC, If Zuma, Gwende, Blade and Mabe become successful after Magaung, I am publicly declaring to give my vote to the DA and will encourage all around me to do the same. These idiots think this is bloody Zim. How ridiculed can we be. This cANCer is too arogant, selfish and greedy. Tokyo for president.

      emmanuel.manu.18 - 2012-06-04 09:44

Livhu u wil also hv ma vote if they win!

      colin.dovey - 2012-06-04 12:02

@Netwera your sentiments are spot on. Just not sure about Tokyo and his connections to Winnie the Pooh though. We should all consider trying to get Moeletsi Mbeki to run as office bearer of the DA....and with a view to head the party. Helen Zille is very good, and so is Lindiwe Mazubuko - but Helen is too white for some, and Lindiwe a bit low on experience at the moment.

      Joel - 2012-06-04 13:00

There ar many people who act as u wish shud your preferred candidate wins

      Aya - 2012-06-04 13:42

@Xavier, well said my brother. balancing the equation will do for this country. Moeletsi Mbheki and Zille on his side, just get rid of the tipical ANC members for high positions.

      Jacqui - 2012-06-04 14:42

Netswera, will Tokyo be better?. I am sceptical.

  • sango.jika - 2012-06-04 09:25

atleast he's got brains compared to juju boy.

      Ditantane - 2012-06-04 09:30

      and you know this?

      netswera.livhuwani - 2012-06-04 09:40

Hahaha, lets all live in harmony, appreciate life is not fair and you are born poor so should accept it, what imbalances? The economy belongs to the fortune few and they will always rule upon you the poor. What the f...? is that what you call brains? that’s being a coward, in which country do you see that happening? Juju may not have brains but i disagree with people defending certain ideas because they suite their race, that’s not rite, we are sitting on the time bomb and it has to be dismantled before it explode. Giving a blind eye just makes matters worse. Freedom for all implies wealth distribution to all races in the country to get a balance.

      nigel.burgess.52 - 2012-06-04 10:26

@netswera.livhuwani: Every country in the world has poor people. The poor people will always claim an 'imbalance'. In our country, if a Black man cannot afford an X5, he thinks he's poor and the victim of economic 'imbalance'. This is not poverty. Sure there are also the very poor, people who really are poor, but again, you will find 'very poor' in every country. If you're looking for economic utopia, good luck, I don't think it exists anywhere. When I drive to and from work everyday, I'm surrounded by X5; Land Rover; Range Rover; Jaguar; E-Class Mercs etc etc. being driven by.....? Black people. Good for them, I have no problem with this at all. But please, let's be careful when we throw these words like poverty and 'imbalance' around.

      sango.jika - 2012-06-04 11:38

@netswera what juju does is force things he don't negotiate,@detantane i have seen him being interviewed on tv he is a decent young man

  • collinml - 2012-06-04 09:36

Does the country really need a non functioning organisation like the ANCYL.Can it not be disbanded immediately???

      netswera.livhuwani - 2012-06-04 10:09

I think we do need there youth leader development organizations, they are crucial in making preparations for future leaders. Both in the ANC and DA it can be very useful. but thats just my taking of the it.

      nigel.burgess.52 - 2012-06-04 10:28

I agree, but when will they actually produce a real 'leader'?

  • sazi.radebe - 2012-06-04 09:41

      Aya - 2012-06-04 13:48

  • ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-06-04 10:00

  • netswera.livhuwani - 2012-06-04 10:05

@spartanx93 - i agree fully with you. we need to also deal with that black mind, this very way of thinking will always pull us backwards. And this culture this culture that? get rid of that nonsense and you will see change.

  • vuh.fuze - 2012-06-04 10:20

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-06-04 13:16

I love some of the comments here hehehehe.

  • thabo.swafo - 2012-06-04 13:34

This is clear that,Pule Mabe is an informer to Zumantashe,he proved the point that he has been used as an weakest link to betray ANCYL.Now he openend his mouth of showing the interests on the YL president position. This boy is playing his role of counter revolutionary against our YL ambitions. He degenerated himself into a faction group. As the ANCYL members,we are going to deal with this kind of behaviour to dignify our organisation.

  • Jacqui - 2012-06-04 14:41

The guy looks forty eight. How can he lead the Youth League?.

  • Jackie - 2012-06-04 15:22

tokyo is a capitalist sellout, zuma is a confused idiot and motlante is a coward. all we need is a kind of "courage the cowardly dog" leader to pull us out of this quagmire we find ourselves in.
