Magashule: Elect the best of the best

2012-11-30 07:20

Sasolburg - Delegates going to the ANC elective conference in Mangaung must select the best of the best, Free State Premier Ace Magashule said on Thursday.

“Choose the best of the best…The tried and tested of the African National Congress,” he said in Sasolburg.

Magashule urged delegates at the provincial nomination conference to forget about their province, ethnic group, or tribe when electing national leaders.

“These days we are told to count the number of Zulus in the NEC [national executive committee]…Tribalism is what we fought against for many years. Black in general, African in particular, that is what ANC leadership should reflect.”

He urged the delegates to use their conscience when selecting party leaders, and not base their decision on which province the person was from.

Pleading for leadership

Those who would lead the ANC after the party's Mangaung conference should neither be chosen on fame nor because they were a Cabinet minister, he said.

People who asked to be nominated were the problem, he said.

“If you put someone [in charge] who pleads for leadership you’re inviting trouble.”

Magashule rejected views that certain ANC structures were confined to nominating only either men or women.

“The [ANC] Women's League is an integral part of the ANC. The Women's League is not going to give us a list and say ‘elect these women’. Before you become a member of the ANC Women’s League you have to become a member of the ANC.”

On the chances of ANC president Jacob Zuma serving a second term, he said: “I’m very convinced the people of this country love Jacob Zuma. Don’t worry about surveys.”

Names from the branch nominations were announced just before 10pm. Zuma emerged unopposed during the branch nomination process.

. . . at least he will not refer you to collective when you complain about non delivery of promises. As a leader who sold himself, based on his skills can be held accountable. You will refer to him his presentation when he was 'pleading for leadership'.Mojay do not buy a closed book for you end up with ponographic magazine while looking for adventure novel. We are already in trouble. . . !

Just dreaming.....wouldn' it be a shock to everyone if suddenly, a new law was declared.....minutes after the elected few step up to their thrones. One that goes like this: NO realtive, or family member, within say 10 times removed, (down the line) may enter politics, hold any position of authority, tender for any government work, work within the local governance, blah blah.........now really, imagine the shock? I am only dreaming ne? There would be wholesale resignations, screams of indignation, and chaos would ensue....*sigh*

  • Thabo Dijoe - 2012-11-30 07:59

That was expected from free state, a province led by a dictator

  • mart.botha - 2012-11-30 08:24

When you are faced with buying a packet of sugar and they're all broken, all you can do is choose the least damaged packet. Unfortunately that is what the leadership in the ANC represents....a broken dream for millions, and they have no one else to blame but themselves.

  • webstorm.isp.5 - 2012-11-30 08:25

Like picking a clown in a circus

  • andrew.mackie.90 - 2012-11-30 08:42

Think again that the people of this country love Jacob Zuma!! Some people may love him but many see him as a wasteful and inept leader who only cares for himself and his flock. He is a man unable to deal with the challenges that beset this beautiful land. He appoints cadres into positions where they cannot cope and therefore mismanage. One thing he is for sure is a good story teller about his wasteful spending and self enrichment. So choose him and see a further backward slide for the Rainbow nation.

  • Lucky - 2012-11-30 09:01

They should all be "tried" and should all be behind bars but then they are the manne now, the thieving morons!

  • Erna - 2012-11-30 09:59

  • nick.crossley.395 - 2012-11-30 10:05

Subject: FW: QUOTE OF THE CENTURY QUOTE OF THE CENTURY, MAYBE EVEN THE MILLENNIUM Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic Main Daily Newspaper Editorial. Someone over there has it figured out. "The danger to South Africa is not Jacob Zuma but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of a Zuma presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Zuma, who is a mere symptom of what ails South Africa. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Jacob Zuma, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.”

  • mashavha - 2012-11-30 10:14

Do we you have the best?

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-11-30 10:51

So what he is trying to tell us that there will be no change. The best of what they believe is the best is already tried and tested and ther will no reason to change. I wonder if the ANCWL should ever put forward a woman to be elected as possible president.....will it be our ANGIE, just thinking of course.

  • Prince Kgwale - 2012-11-30 11:15

ANC have empty suits, flea infested bodies and most criminal charges dropped cadres. The best of the best are being kicked out eg the likes of Mbeki,Sello Moloto etc

"I’m very convinced the people of this country love Jacob Zuma".No this is not entirely true, majority of people love ANC however Zuma is the worst leader ANC has ever had.Voting for Zuma will nevertheless mark ANC's demise, those who back Zuma want nothing else but to retain their leadership positions.I think it is wise to uphold the interest of the country first and electing Zuma will be a big mistake.I love ANC and i don't want to see it going down,we have come a long way to be where we are now.Zuma your time is over,we need change and the time for that change is now.
