Malema: We want 60% of Anglo

2011-03-06 14:31

Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has said his organisation wanted 60% of Anglo American, City Press reported on Sunday.

Malema was speaking at a gala dinner in Nelspruit on Friday.

He said Anglo could do with the remaining 40% as it pleased.

Malema predicted that the nationalisation of mines would still happen in his lifetime.

"Share that delicious piece of cake. Don’t eat it all alone!" he said to loud applause.

Malema said unemployment was the cause of recent political unrest, and nationalisation was the way to solve it.

The youth league did not advocate taking over all white businesses, it just wanted a fair share, he said.

"If we don’t do it (nationalisation), we’ll always stay poor. The Oppenheimers don’t need to worry because we only want 60% of Anglo American’s money," he said.

Malema said Anglo had agreed to give 51% of its mining interests to black people in Botswana and asked why the company did not want to do the same in South Africa. He accused the mining giant of thinking black people were idiots and of abusing the black population in South Africa.

Malema said political freedom was useless without economic freedom.

"We’re now economic freedom fighters. The revolution started to get food. We don’t have to apologise, or be shy about this struggle."

He urged a full hall at the Ehlanzeni District Municipality building to prevent the revolution from losing steam by having as many babies as possible.

"Having babies is a revolutionary thing. You must reproduce!"

Anglo American was not available for comment.

I assume they (Anglo) were too overcome with laughter to put words together. And Julius wants more babies as if SA doesn't have enough dying at birth. Does this man actually know anything at all?

Anglo laughhing, Nope, they just will up anchour and invest in other countries. Then our mines will be nothing but a very deep hole in the ground. Malema, get off your fat arse and buy the shares like any normal businessman. If you want to steal it, take everything so that the world can see what class of thieving racist lazy murdering scoundrel they have to deal with. Or do you want to keep the 40% share in the hands of competent people to ensure that it takes so much longer before Anglo collapses. The 40% then have to do 100% of the work so you can get even fatter. You are supposed to represent the ANC Youth League. Where is the audits to show what percentage of your supposed to be followers vored on the 60% Anglo grab. How many supporters voted. How many abstained. What was the percentage vote in favour of the theft? Malema, I put it to you, you are speaking on your own behalf. The ANCYL did not even know what you are going to demand in your speech. Malema, what are you actually doing for the ANC youth? Except giving speeches that makes you the centre of attention. Malema, you only care about yourself and your popularity contest. Sanity sadly left your show long ago.

I assume they really do want that 60%. Greedy bastards. I would settle for 1% for myself.... ANd for the extra babies: I recall Hitler asking the same of his people. Coincidence? Or could it be that Malema is trying to cover his fat ass because he knocked up a few ladies. Good ploy then, make your own mistakes national policy :D I only wonder how he expects people to actualy feed, clothe and educate those children? People are struggling as it is and having kids is not a cheap thing. Maybe he will propose that the government just prints some more money to pay for it all. I mean that is the best way to go. It worked so well for the Zim currency so I'm sure we can have the same economical marvel in South Africa.... (NB: for those that do not understand sarcasm, I was having a little joke there.)

May I suggest that you pick a new theme song - Shoot the Boer won't go down well with your new plan, what about 50Cent's Lollipop or if you want to expand your supporter base - Loslappie or Wys jou Muis? This should get the masses in the mood! I am concerned about your example though - don't you have a girl barefoot and pregnant back in your Sandton mansion? Or is this the struggle you are referring to? You must follow the prez's example: 23 and counting...

does he even know how to spell nationalisation? he is an illiterate fool with no comprehension of financial markets or the current state of the economy. all he is doing right now is fueling\mobilizing the rural poor masses so that the ANC gets a landslide win in the upcoming elections. if he was not the presidant of the ANCYL (in all honesty, he is no longer part of the youth demographic) i rate he would be living in a shack commiting crime or jobless, just goes to show, in our country you can have a negetive IQ and still go on and lead an organization, live in Sandton and drive German engineered cars.

      TheNewSA - 2011-03-07 14:01

Notice how he wants the 60% for 'his organisation' and not 'his country'. Like the ANC would share any of that wealth with the country.

In 20 years time the explosion in population will be a disaster. They will have milked us taxpayers dry by then and there will be no money for RDP houses, jobs, grants etc for all these people. What a disaster about to happen because most of the uneducated will be making babies as we speak!

      Super-D - 2011-03-07 09:52

Dude.. as much as I would like to agree with you here the harsh reality is that the ANC is no longer a reputable organization. During Madiba's reign they where focused on developing the country as a whole soon as sparky (JZ) and his group of @ss kissers came into power the anc went downhill very very fast, now they have found another hill to continue their descent, Juju justs adds weight to an already sinking ship. Essentially the fact that the anc allowed the son of the president to make R900 000 000 (yes thats right 11 zero's) for brokering a R9 billion deal between the Gupta's (not even South African Nationals)should be enough proof that the anc are nothing but political prostitutes, albeit expensive ones. High class, NO, just expensive.

      SaintBruce - 2011-03-07 10:28

Too late. Malema's ill timed and ill advised words are on the Global stage! he does not care about welfare for the youth or anyone else but just his own. "We want 60% of Anglo's money" - who is 'we'. He probably does not know how to do a search of the Anglo worldwide investments structure. Simple - Anglo sets up a Global Head Office in a neutral country like Switzerland and Malema can whistle Dixie until he expires but he won't get a cent! BTW - Anglo in Botswana is in joint ventures with the Botswana Government on a 50/50 basis, so they give 1% extra to have a 'black owned' mantle to their name - no big deal I reckon! Who is the real 'owner' in Botswana government? Now that's a good question. Malema spews and thinking folks make plans to thwart his efforts. Napoleon said: the side with the most intelligence of the opposition, will win the battle. Go on Malema, keep telling us your plans so we can beat you in advance! LOL. Travis.wg - sadly the silence from the central ANC is tacit consent and they speak with forked tongue ( No says one, yes says another).

  • Sylar_DJ - 2011-03-06 14:42

so Anglo American thinks black people are stupid...then why give it to people in Botswana? Coz we all know that Botswana is the white peoples retreat. I never thought I'd see the day that Julius Malema could say things that are more stupid and pathetic than what he has uttered in the past....."Having babies is a revelutionary thing" are you serious? Why not just say have as many kids as you want and bankrupt yourself

      kdihutso - 2011-03-07 07:30

"Botswana is the white peoples retreat" silly statement if ever there was one! The reason the Botswana government has a 51% stake in Anglois becauseof Natural resources policy every company that opens a mine in Botswana gets into a partnership with the government! The system may not necessarily work for south Africa but it could be worth a look in Malema is an iduiot but he is opening a good debate...is it possible that if government got stakes in the mining projects the previously disadvatged people will benefit? no gurantees but it is worth a look in it might even contribute to lower taxes the same way it has in Botswana...you do know income tax in Botswana is the lowest in Africa and among the lowest in the Southern hemisphere. That is because the government is getting funding elsewhere and doesn't have to overtax it's people

      Twatter - 2011-03-07 09:20

@kdihutso. The system works in Botswana because the money the government makes from it's shares in mining actually goes back to the people! The government invests vast amounts of money in training it's people, and it's very difficult for foreigners to get in there unless they are providing vitals skills to the economy and helping to train the local Batswana people. This would never work in SA because our government and the majority of it's supporters are far too inherently dishonest and corrupt! This gets proven consistently!

      AJ - 2011-03-07 10:07

@kdihutso Botswana and South Africa may as well be a million miles apart from each other. There is NO use drawing any comparison as to how things can work similarly here. The quality of government there and the total lack of any quality here negates the possibility of this ever being a realistic proposition.

      slimkoos - 2011-03-07 12:10

Botswana has politicians with brains. It is a non racist, non sexist and peaceful society, run by very bright people who has their country and the well being of the people at heart. That is why joint ventures with the Government of Botswana as a partner works well for its people. South Africa on the other hand is run by a bunch of ex convicts and high school drop outs who hangs out in night clubs or see how many wives they can marry. Helloooo !!!

      Zanu - 2011-03-07 16:40

from experience, doing business with Botswana is a pleasure. To see an "African" state that is successful, caring, objective and fair is a breath of fresh air. Botswana is the future... we can learn from them a thing or two

Yebo Woodworm Malema, you want 60% of Anglo so that thousands of your fellow country men can loose their jobs while you and you African National Circus sidekicks get rich. Anglo America saw this comming many years ago, and moved it's listing and HQ to London, so dirty people like you could not get control of them. Remember this Malema, AA does not need SA, but SA needs AA. Countries like Chile, Brazil,Colombia, Venezuela,Peru, Australia and Canada offer much more for AA than SA does right now. Go ahead Malema, and create another Kitwe,in Zambia, and AA will wait the 30 years or so for de-nationalisation to be announced.

      Xenonphobic - 2011-03-07 04:47

@Ibo, why else would a company be in a country other than to make money? If they make money, pay tax, invest in the country, create jobs and develop a skilled/semi-skilled workforce in the areas in which they operate where's the problem? Nationalisation is nice in theory, but useless if the profits are siphoned off by politicians instead of being spent on making a better country. Stop with the racist/xenophobic 'revolution' and realise that South Africa has enough money. Your favourite politicians just think it better spent on a BMW rather than national development.

      Carl - 2011-03-07 07:57

That comment alone by Malema that the blacks should go forth and have more kids knocks your breath away due to the shear magnitude of his callus stupidity. yup he's right. Having babies and keeping the new generation uneducated and promising them the earth if they vote for the ANC is revolutionary. It's the only way the ANC will stay in power. Yes, have more children. I still see children now going to school without shoes, they are probably going hungry as well. Have more children so population growth rate exceeds economic growth... that way ensuring you keep yourselves poor. Gosh this oke is smart, probably couldn't nail two short planks together. Can people not see that if you want a good education for your children you should have 1/2 at most and use the same money on them as you would on 4/6 children. Yes Juliass, have your cake, but people will still remain poor no matter how much you nationalize with you kind of illogical rehtoric.

Whoever wrote the drivel in the link above, 1. If you want Anglo to respond in any way to your script, other than dumping in the dustbin (ie what I would have done) – I strongly suggest you find out how to speak coherent English. No intelligent person will take such jumbled babble seriously (and you cannot blame them). 2. Economics do not know ‘skin colour’, it does however distinguish heavily re IQ – in this regard, Africa is a massive failure (iow Africans are stupid – no doubt, look at the link below). If you want the ‘white man’s’ wealth, guess what – it come with the white man. Accept this or go back to the caves and the trees; it is as simple as that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:National_IQ_Lynn_Vanhanen_2006_IQ_and_Global_Inequality.png 3. It is not Anglo’s fault that Africans are feckless oafs – Africans only have themselves to blame for that. The world is starting to get sick of ineffectual parasites (like sub-Sahara Africa basically is). http://www.businessday.co.za/articles/Content.aspx?id=136199 http://safailing.blogspot.com 4. Stop blaming the past and/or businesses that are working. Get off your sorry parasite back-side and start producing economic results. If you are not interested, go back to the caves and the trees where you and Julius Malema belong. Get out of the way so that people who can produce economic results (not f*cking babies), can do so... I am in fact beginning to believe you are some white oak from Ventersdorp – as it is only the AWB that will so blatantly insult the intellect of black people, as you have done in your comments. Ibo, you sir, went full retard. 1. Chinese colonization - mmmmmm, ever heard of Taiwan. Also, it won't hurt to read about the history Chinese expansion. Today Chinese colonization is an economic one, and you and your brother don't even realise it. 2. Re the IQ map, not for us to discuss the accuracy, but you can take it up with the author on wiki. 3. China never stole, abuse etc. etc. Please man.....are you actually awake and breathing. I guess in 20 years time when you realise Chine owns the whole Africa you are going to say "They stole it". Have you seen Chinas human rights records, bro. 4. Economics doesn't determine IQ - however, good IQ helps good economic policy. 5. Pre/post apartheid SA economy...bwahahaha, you must be 15 years old or never studied/researched the economic history of SA. 6. Please my friend, don't come here with your uneducated tendencies...do some research first. It's only advice, use it, don't use it...but don't get angry when people take a shot at your stupid remarks.

      Ibo - 2011-03-06 20:09

@its_not_work: To the untaught and mindless moron. Africans are zero and will continue like that if the only word is your one as it happen in the last 500 years. I expect you to know that right now there are over 15 African nations which their official currencies call CAF francs. It’s a pure French money making machine and now is EU money making machine. And you read about the history of these African countries and their French strews of pulling blood they never choose that but it was imposed on them. Now to the SA value of the Rand in the 70s, do you know that right now the Currency of small non High IQ Kuwait is much, much, much stronger than the dollar, the Euro or pound? Not only Kuwait but there some countries which their currencies are much stronger that those western currencies, so on this will agree that the IQ of the people leads these countries are much higher than western IQ? The dark time of the white rule, you had a country where the 87% of the population were only serving the 13% then why the 13% should not be extremely rich? SA had nearly 40% of the diamonds of the world & 25% of gold of the world, and all of that was the divine right for only the 13% so why they should not be rich? And you keep pushing the Chinese colonization of Africa simply because they are challenging you. China is much, much better than the Europeans, and proves are all over. (part A)

      jouplesier - 2011-03-06 20:19

iboboon, can you re-write that in English please?

      pop101 - 2011-03-06 20:41

Ibo, 1. During the apartheid era, the small white minority pretty much paid for everything (eg. infrastructure, development, oh and the schools your brothers burnt down). Today it should actually be better, because of the larger tax paying population (black and white). Unfortunately, doesn't look like it. 2. Oh, I'm pretty sure PW, HF et al knew the word democracy. But yes, it is easy to make assumptions about dead people. After all, they can't debate with you. 3. Not "much" skillful, MORE skillful Mr. Nano-byte. 4. My guess is they adopted the CAF Franc, because they didn't have any monetary system till some European country introduced them to it. 5. Re the IQ vs Country Wealth issue, refer my post above. Here's something to ponder about. Western countries monetary aid to African- and Middle Eastern countries vs Eastern Countries monetary aid to African and Middle Eastern Countries. You do the research and math. 6. You argument of "87% of the population were only serving the 13% then why the 13% should not be extremely rich?" shows you indoctrination level. No response required. 7. Unfortunately, as per your Part B: Part A proves zilch.

      fishycraig - 2011-03-06 21:13

Ibo obviously used Google Translate to translate that straight from Mandarin. Another point to put across is how many Chinese people do you see working for aid organisations in Africa? What is the ratio of aid workers from China compared to the West? Which countries are searching for a cure for AIDS? Who is getting AIDS? No, the world is being shaken up and when it all settles down Africa(ns) will still be at the bottom.

      Ibo - 2011-03-06 22:20

I think anyone can ask what kind of citizens you people here are. By the way are you South Africans or foreigners? Why you all go together against any thing going to benefit the country? Why you chose non South Africans take the South African minerals for free while the South Africans are suffering? How loyal you guys are? Are you loyal to Europe and America simply because they have chicken skin like you over the country you were born, grow and maybe still live in? Who should need enemy after having citizens like you? Do you guys thinks the Africans or Arabs in France, the Pakistanis or Indians in England if they behave like how you morons are, could they been allow to live there by the BNP & EDL? Don’t you think that you should pack-up and go and then after you arrive in Ireland you start your right to insult the country and majority of the citizens?

      pop101 - 2011-03-06 23:39

1.Oh so Ibo, at last your real agenda revealed itself....it's all about the colour of the skin, and I quote "chicken skin like you". 2.Talking about taking minerals for free, brother, let me introduce you to China, because you obviously haven't met her yet. And don't think she gives a fuk about the poor Africans suffering. 3. Don't call me a moron, when you can't even construct a proper sentence. And no, English is not my first language. The red wiggly line under the words you type means something is wrong with the word or sentence, please re-check, so there is help, use it. 4.If you follow the global news you will notice that the balance and policy of European counties are changing. They are slowly getting fed-up with the demands made by your immigrant Arab and African brothers in their countries.

@pink_polony: I don’t understand what you try to say up there. Obviously you know nothing therefore have nothing to say, and I guess that is why you try to be funny. I am not trying to teach you anything as your skin superiority is enough for you, but the Arab & Africans I was talking about in France, or the Pakistani & Indians in England, they should not be count as immigrant you moron. Those people were born there and grow up there you idiot ignorant, you see them in all European sport teams you racist moron. And if they are immigrant then I don’t know what you are in South Africa. I am not trying to say that you should behave like them because if the Sarkrazy, BNP and EDL succeed on their whiteness agenda then you also will have to face the same music, but relax in Africa or South Africa we don’t yet have comparison to Sarkrazy leave alone the BNP and EDL.

      pop101 - 2011-03-07 11:05

Ibo, normally I don't get personal when debating with somebody. In fact, on my list, it comes second of the debating nos (just after generalizing). However, in your case, I'm going to make an exception. You my dear friend, just took stupidity to a great new level. Congrats, how does it feel.

      Peter Mac - 2011-03-07 11:06

@lbo: Firstly - I assume english is not your first language and possibly not even your second language and thk for at least making an attempt to post in englsh. Secondly: You have made some very vague points that are maybe even worth discussing ie. working together as one nation. However, when you let your emotion get in the way of any sound and reasoned thought you tend to lose all credibility in anything you say. Making rash, ill informed and plainly foolish statements, with little or no research, shows you off as nothing more than a dimwit. Please don't insult the readers' intelligence and more importantly don't insult your own intelligence.

      Ibo - 2011-03-07 16:53

Why everyone here attack me personally instead of responding the argument? Is this some kind of killing the messenger? Why all morons just go on the English, English, and English? What is wrong with you? I was told that whites have high IQ than any other nation so why none can explain to me why China have economy growing with the rate of 10/11% while nearly all so-claimed to be intelligent nations their economy is on the pigs queue? Someone said Malema is like Hitler, so I asked if a black malema could be like the white Afrikaner Hitler. The current S African government declare that South Africa is for all South Africans and they provide you many things including the right for you to keep talking the nonsense you are saying here, so why you won’t accept that there is failure on your IQ When you said South Africa is only for the boer? And dictatorship was song of the day? not only that but looking at what your fathers did not only in SA but place like America you destroyed the natives there, in Australia you did the same, plus you killed over 18 million of human in the WWI, and over 68 million in WWII, so why you won’t accept that your IQ is made for only killings and creating racism, hatred, bigotry and chauvinism? Why you can’t even understand this? is because of your IQ? Now let’s look at this; we saw your white Bush with his high IQ, he was born in America and lived all of his time in America, could you compare him to the front man Obama? Doesn’t the Black Obama appear much eloquent and well educated than the white Bush?

      pop101 - 2011-03-07 17:04

Ibo, I'm afraid that if I'm going to respond to you one more time, my head is going to explode. I now know how hard to work of an Sub A teacher must be.

      pop101 - 2011-03-07 17:04

      Sorry. Grade 1.

      pop101 - 2011-03-07 17:18

Ibo, So your question is why is the Chinese Economy so strong? Oh, by the way, the IQ map show them to be very clever (just for info). I did a quick search and this is the long and short of it. In 1978, after years of state control of all productive assets, the government of China embarked on a major program of economic reform. In an effort to awaken a dormant economic giant, it encouraged the formation of rural enterprises and private businesses, liberalized foreign trade and investment, relaxed state control over some prices, and invested in industrial production and the education of its workforce. By nearly all accounts, the strategy has worked spectacularly. CONCLUSION - They did exactly the opposite of what your Mr. Malema wants to do. They "freed" their economy from state control. Mr. Malema wants to enslave our economy and put it under state control. Ironic that you support Malema, don't you think. Re the World Wars: If you were a bit more developed at that stage, you would have been part of the, wait for it, wait for it: WORLD, yes, WORLD WARS. By the way, you know there were blacks taking part in World War I & II, don't you? Yes, they also killed some of the 18 mil. and 68 mil. Just a interesting fact: Most of the technology we use today were developed because of wars. Even this wonderful web thing you use everyday. Re the Obama vs. Bush debate. I guess you should ask an American to answer that one.....KABOOM, help, head exploded.

      william.botha - 2011-03-07 21:24

Ibo, there is three sides to a story, your side, my side and then the truth. The truth is factual and there for all to see, and it remains no matter who says what. The true facts reveal the sorry state of Africa. You can blame whoever you like and carry on ignoring your responsibility, but what matters at the end of the day is what have you done to better your and other citizen's future? • Education! - 2011-03-06 15:39

Two points raise alarm bells for me. Firstly, the sense of entitlement expressed by Malema on numerous occasions. The idea that people are entitled to a house and a good job (no matter the qualification) is problematic as it doesn't encourage citizens to improve themselves through hard work and discipline. In the words of FDR: 'Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country!' His (Malema's) suggestion that the people should be granted money and resources by virtue of the fact that they live in a country is a dangerous precedent encouraging laziness. Secondly, the lack of practical reasoning in Malema's arguments. When a country forces a company such as Anglo American to relinquish 60% of their ownership (love the arbitrary majority number) it discourages foreign investors. This has a whole host of negative consequences on our economy which directly affect the welfare of our citizens. He should come up with a line of reasoning that would explain how this legislation could improve the life of his people. He does not make the connection between cause and effect.

Matey, John F Kennedy said that not FDR.

But that is the point, isn't it?? It has nothing to do with helping the citizens, or their welfare... only about making him and his stupid buddies even more wealthy!

Want is one thing, get is another. Whats you gonna do if you don't get Malemmer?

  • ellard - 2011-03-06 15:41

Another stupid want by an equally stupid and ignorant flattie. Anglo will pull out and the FIRS will be jobless.

  • william.botha - 2011-03-06 15:43

This dude is starting to sound more and more like Bob Mugabe.

  • tlhox - 2011-03-06 15:46

Malema is right. Political freedom is the first step. Economic freedom is the second. As for scaring of foreign investment. We need investors that are committed to empowering south africans, not investors that come here to grab profits and take advantage of the natives.

      Like the Guptas?

And who is going to give you your economic freedom? Grabing stuff? I think not. The Chinese are coming youre stupid idiot. They will definately not think about you and youre kind.

      jono.boardman - 2011-03-06 22:11

Like the Chinese that Mandela's grandson is inviting into the country to invest in Aurora? Those Chinese that are SO committed to the uplifting of Africans? Moron.

Listen, doffie. The 1 and only reason a company does business is for profit. No profit, no business, finished. The do not get involved in a country for the benefit of a country and it's people, they might say they do, but they are only interested in 1 thing, PROFIT. No profit=no business=no jobs=no money=no economy. The sooner you and mentally challenged people like you realise this and stop living in lala land, the better for all South Africans.
