Malema accuses govt of only seeking publicity

2012-08-23 16:52

Rustenburg - The government did not do anything for the 34 slain miners in Marikana, expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema said on Thursday.

"Under democracy our people will be protected. But government has turned against its people," Malema told a memorial service for the dead miners in Marikana, North West.

He accused members of government are only attending the memorial service to pose for news cameras.

He called businessman Cyril Ramaphosa arrogant after his investment holding company, Shanduka, announced on Saturday that it would contribute R2m towards the burial of the miners.

"He is like, we will kill you and pay for your burials," Malema said.

"Government has failed to get involved, because they are involved in the mine. This is a mining revolution and we will not surrender."

The crowd cheered Malema on as he spoke.

Earlier, local residents addressed mourners and said workers still wanted their salaries increased to R12 500.

Before addressing the mourners, Malema chanted: "Forward to 12 500, forward."

He also thanked the Friends of the Youth League and claimed they paid for the white marquee and sound system that had been set up for the occasion.

Before Malema spoke, mourners became rowdy when an unidentified man went on stage and called for President Jacob Zuma to resign.

"Jacob Zuma should resign as president of South Africa," he said, to cheers.

"Number two, Julius Malema is back in the ANC."

After he spoke the whole crowd cheered.

When Malema finished talking, the mourners sang and cheered him on before dispersing.

I wonder who is actually seeking publicity - Juli ass ??? Bananafarian of note!

you're the one seeking publicity fool.

      Opportunist populist extraordinaire!

      frank.vankaapstad - 2012-08-23 17:16

So the opportunist little prick Juju manages to pull the wool over the eyes of the miners and has them believe he is there only because he cares. Those poor people are as gullible and stupid as the majority of the nation that keep voting for a party intent on doing nothing but enriching themselves. That is African politics for you without exception.

      godesha - 2012-08-23 17:18

I was just about to say the same thing. Just a question though, what has Julius done for the miners?

      rbphiri - 2012-08-23 17:21

Ok butthole, than what are you there provide economic freedom perhaps? or teach the miners wood work? in order to alleviate them from the clutches of poverty. Do the miners even think that the rubbish government they voted for even care about the innocent people who were killed, NO!!! they merely want to show you "support", so that your support translates into votes at the polls.

      nhamo.dzenyika - 2012-08-23 17:24

it is only you guys (and you know who you guys are) who hate him. see the amount of support he garners wherever he goes while you guys complain behind your laptops and compututers.

@Joubs1957, Not sure if we should say the media should stop giving him publicity or not because all stories about him always attract great attention from Media24 readers and other news sites. Even BBC and SkyNews can testify.

@mparaya.Mokopane, Joubs1957 isn't posing infront of the camera idiot. So please, before accusing, be sure of your facts.

What an arrogant, ignorant, uneducated little man with a big mouth. The miners brought it on themselves, clean and simple. He has absoultely no idea of the reprocussions of the idiotic rants he chants to the fellow ignorant and uneducated. Its easy to manipulate a person who knows no better. Come on, try convert us, the educated people of South Africa. What all you people supporting Malema are saying as that you believe in a lawless counrty, a country where we make selfish policies that will make us cheer, but will bring an end to industry, health, and increase poverty..but who cares right, for now we cheer. Idiots, morons, brain dead sheep to a hearder. All the impoverished think he will bring homes and money, but i can assure you, there isnt enough of us tax paying individuals to pay for all of you to have free houses, and pay your childrens grants, and job seekers grants, and and and and...etc Just not enough to go around. So guess what? At some stage you are going to have to get off your lazy fat a$$es and actually work for a better aliving instead of expecting it to fall in your laps. Not to mention, when you inevitably fail, your saviuor is still going to be in his Mansion, stealing i say me, because you have nothing to steal, you have to work for that!

Is mal-emmer pro nationalisation or against, I forget... Here it seems he's against...

First they fall (literally) for a freak that sells them a brown concoction supposed to make the bullets bounce off you... Now they are falling for a freak who took 21 years to fail Woodwork. Does it surprise you that they cannot see the entire country falling..? 16 August 2012 started at Polokwane in 2007 - South Africa's final chapter will be scripted at Mangaung later this year. The ANC created this repulsive obtuse feckless freak, no one else - I am amazed that anybody can even suggest, an entity responsible for this cognitive cavity mounted on rubber lips, can run a country... ONLY IN SA DOES BEING SO STUPID PAY SO WELL...

      Vince.York - 2012-08-23 22:13

Malema is being directed by string pulling foreign communists who want a shortcut to SA's coffers easy money. He will do nothing for the people!

The fact that he is now taking advantage of grieving mourners, who i hope have better judgment when not grieving, shows that he is willing to do anything! @Mparaya, fine the man is here to stay, but someone should really put a muzzle on him. I AM from KZN and trust me 'jealousy'cannot be named amongst the feelings i have for this 'man'.

Calling people names will not add weight to any argument. It just illuminates your lack of coherent and extensive thought and that you, and any parrot as well, can mimic outdated manners of argument. Unless the object of your posts is to be boorish, arrogant and excel in displaying poor manners, poorer upbringing and the fact that you could easily qualify as a 2nd hand citizen....

      rbphiri - 2012-08-23 17:33

@ nhamo.dzenyika it only goes to show that you will never let your stupidity down. "A true man for the people"...hmmm if that's the case, he would stop his tenderpreneush*t tendencies and compete fairly when it comes to tenders, instead of using his political fat muscle to grab all the tenders. And it's ironic that most people who used to join malema on his brainless and aimless marches through the streets come from poor backgrounds, after the march has ended he returns to his R16m masion, the followers return to their respective shacks...then the following day he holds a press briefing to say his a champion and hero for the poor.

      wilhelm.grobbelaar - 2012-08-23 17:52

      thabang.bonang.7 - 2012-08-23 17:51

Yes He did. I happen to listen to his full speech on mail and guardian. He replied by saying that a shooting by 1 man was not supposed to trigger the killing of so many people. He said He believed the police were supposed to make an effort to arrest that one person instead of killing all those miners.

      pyn.appel - 2012-08-23 17:53

ha ha ha - I want to see the police going in and arrest that 1 person who fired the first shot. That AFTER earlier in the week 2 other policemen and a security guard were hacked to death with pangas ... would you have done it!?!?! People need to start taking responsibility for their actions. Responsibility here is with group of non-friendly strikers, they are responsible for the death of their own, i.e. if they were not a threat there would have been no bullets flying. My heart goes out to the families left behind but every action has a consequence ...

      thabang.bonang.7 - 2012-08-23 18:01

@pyn.appel, I'm just saying what He said hey!!! Maybe we need to wait for the commission of enquiry to finish with their investigation before you say the shot miners were guilty. I would have my own view and say the police shot cornered miners with a teargas first(Reuters camera view) and the miners happen to run in the way of the police to avoid teargas smoke. Thus the reason many that were killed had their hands covering their faces to protect themselves from the teargas smoke.

Malema is such a nightmare though! He has valid points now and then, like him or not. Like any active citizen he has every right to speak his mind, one doesn't need a political house to express themselves in a democracy. So the question about who he is or what capacity he speaks in after he was expelled by the ANC is not relevant. He might as well declare himself as a political activist. Most comments on this platform are based on hate for Malema than anything else. I don't think he's as dumb as some are led to believe. With proper coaching, this man can be a leader of note. Politics is also about understanding people and speaking to their needs. Every politician does that from Zille to Buthelezi, Obama to Romney the message changes depending on the audiance. Watch out for Malema people, he feeds on your anger for him!

      spiekeries - 2012-08-23 17:32

      magdaleen.smuts - 2012-08-23 17:42

Beki I agree, but he sadly showed that he is stubborn and do not learn easily how to be a trustworthy leader. He changes his stance to often because he says anything that would draw the masses to him, by promising them the almost impossible. You cannot have a big crowd and then run the their country to the ground. He loves money. He will not work for his country/people, he will use them for his own need of power.

      pyn.appel - 2012-08-23 17:55

In the event that they had they would have seen what the result of the 1922 Miners Strike had on the ruling government of the day. I don't like Juju even in the slightest, but I totally disagree with those who call his supporters stupid. That's what democracy is about. People have the right to make their own choices. In 1960s many white South Africans hated Mandela, and probably called his supporters stupid. Let's sure maturity and respect democracy. We shouldn't support democracy only when it favors us. If people elect the ANC into power then so be it. Democracy doesn't mean people must like the same things as you do and in democracy you must respect other people's right to disagree with you.

      linds.ronhouse - 2012-08-23 19:35

For me, insulting those you disagree with is not practicing democracy but intolerance for multiplicity of views. In fact it reflects more badly on the person hurling insults than the subject of insults. The Latin referred to this approach as argumentum ad hominem. A weapon of people who lack intellectual depth to argue logically. They'll say things such as "if you support the DA then you're a racist" or "if you support the ANC then you an uneducated fool." Completeltly senseless arguments.

      linds.ronhouse - 2012-08-23 20:11

I feel sorry for the families of the dead miners who are in pain for the lost of their loved ones - now to make thinks worse they have to endure this rubbish from the Malemas and Zumas of this world. Its very unfortunate indeed...

  • africa.tshipembe - 2012-08-23 18:10

im beginning to think that sars and the hawks couldnt find anything against this guy or he knows something big about zuma that he is using to blackmail him.the scary thing is while the few of us sitting behind our computers are busy calling him names, more people on the ground are falling for his afraid this guy is sprinting right to the top and we are powerless to stop him.very soon we will be calling him "HONOURABLE" PRESIDENT MALEMA!!

  • tricia.sutherland1 - 2012-08-23 18:11

let's not forget the 2 policemen murdered by these miners, and the 2 security guards hacked to death and the 6 non-striking civilians also hacked to death. The miners made their point and how far they were willing to go. Perhaps Julius and Jacob should've approached the miners if they think they were victims at all!!!!

Can Juju make a sentence with 'pot', 'kettle' and 'black'? One can't help wonder how dangerous when he's not tethered by political party membership, 'cause the masses will still listen.

  • senzo.mathebula - 2012-08-23 18:13

I wonder, if these buffoons suggesting that the miners who were killed deserved it, would say the same thing if it was the boeremark crew that got the bullet?

      David Steyn - 2012-08-23 18:48

This has got nothing to do with colour or the boeremag or as you called them boeremark. Let me try and put something into perspective for you. Any person or peoples or organization or religion or whatever has no right to take the law into their own hands. Tell me my friend have you seen the photos of the ten people hacked to death. Did these people deserve to die? What about their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, childre etc, etc. I suggest that if you dont have anything sensible to say then say nothing at all.

      senzo.mathebula - 2012-08-23 20:22

It's bad enough that ten lives were lost randomly shooting and killing 34 ppl is unthinkable

  • Sean Wasserman - 2012-08-23 18:16

ehh, what have you done for the mourners.

  • zapadela.tistarocha - 2012-08-23 18:18

12,5k a month sounds extremely reasonable considering the dangers associated with the task...

It looks like the AMCU are going to unseat NUMSA, Thats not from me but a political analyst. Again watch this space. Things are heating up.
