Malema claims he was victim of a plot

2012-11-30 22:06

Polokwane - Former ANCYL leader Julius Malema on Friday threatened to reveal details of a plot by several government officials to bring about his downfall.

"Now advocate [Nomgcobo] Jiba who heads the NPA, was in a meeting with [Justice] Minister Jeff Radebe, [Police] Minister Nathi Mthethwa, [International Relations Minister] Maite Nkoana-Mashabane with [national police commissioner] Riah Phiyega where they developed a plan to arrest me," he told his supporters outside the High Court in Polokwane.

He appeared, along with four business associates, in the court earlier on charges of fraud, money-laundering, and racketeering.

He told the crowd the meeting was intended to find ways to remove him from politics.

"I wrote to advocate Jiba. And I told her that you were in a meeting where politicians interfered with the independence of prosecutions and gave prosecutors a mandate to persecute me, because they have political differences with me," he said.

"I also brought that matter to the attention of the court."

He intended to prove these "conspiracies" in court.

He told the crowd that the charge of racketeering that had been added to the case was serious as it could see him sentenced to life imprisonment.

Malema, however said he was not afraid of the added charge as he was innocent.

"I say to you, I do not have butterflies in my stomach... I do not panic that I will be arrested for committing a crime."

He thanked the group gathered near the court since Thursday night. They held a night vigil ahead of his appearance on Friday and waited for him to address them after proceedings.

Malema's lawyers said in court they would challenge two issues when the matter resumed next year. These were his apparent unlawful arrest on 25 September, and the alleged conspiracy to remove him from politics.

He told the crowd that Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe should be elected ANC president at the party's national conference in Mangaung next month.

"If we fail in Mangaung we fail South Africa, we fail Africa, we fail the people and we fail humanity... [Jacob] Zuma remains a wrong president. Even if you bring more charges, you can bring as many charges as you can, it won't change the fact that we have a president who can't read," Malema said to cheers.

The matter was postponed to 23 April 2013.

it is new to us i think he must put more forcus in his case and forget our ANC President because he no more a member.

      jannie.beirowski - 2012-12-01 04:43

The comments he makes of your president should prove to you he is not so dimwitted as you think. At least he recognises a stupid, unwanted, illiterate person acting as president for what he is.

      maropola.nkitsing - 2012-12-01 09:44

U call Zuma a president. He is corrupt as his panis. 700 charges is not a child play bro.

      ntebu.mthi - 2012-12-01 12:13

If the NPA was not being influenced, then both Julius and Zuma should be in the dock answering on their corruption charges.

if he knows something about somebody, let him speak or else he is going to find himself behind bars for a long time.if the state can prove all the charges against him beyond reasonable doubt, he is going straight to prison.

  • Ollie - 2012-11-30 23:02

If the ANC wanted to they could find enough evidence to convict almost anyone high up, Malema just got too big for his shoes and Zuma had enough.

      JanGrimbeek - 2012-12-01 09:38

They dont have to find it, they only need to present it.

      ntebu.mthi - 2012-12-01 12:21

Unfortunately the law of the country according to the constitution is such that everybody is equal in terms of the law so the ANC should not shield any of its members if they are doing illegal things, whether such members are in the highest echelons of the party's leadership.

Zuma and Lamula failed to stop the ANCYL from attending to support Malema Its true Zuma is behind these charges.NPA have no evidence against Malema. What happened to fraud and corruption charges? Even the public Pprotector found no evidence in all these charges What were the NPA waiting for all these years if they had evidence? Just because people hate Malema they turn a blind eye to this conspiracy I trust Thuli more than this Zuma's NPA. Who is next of the Zuma's opponents? While the 783 charges r still there Zuma will never leave office

      rude.awakning - 2012-12-01 05:58

yaah! And his millions fell from the sky and land on his JellyAss, neh?

      charmaine.paterson1 - 2012-12-01 07:10

Are Malema supporters really that dof? Where does a man who has never worked a day in his life and does not have rich relatives get millions from?

      thembinkosi.jozie - 2012-12-01 08:04

Thuli found out that Malema benefited from an illegal tender as a shareholder. The tender bid documents were fraudulent The owners of SGL are charged with fraud and corruption. The NPA realized that fraud and corrution won't stick on Malema since he was not involved in the presentation process so they come up with money laundering charge For this charge to stick the NPA must prove that Malema knew that the tender was illegal. How can a share holder know that when he was told the company won fairly.Malema doesn't even need a lawyer to defend himself against this charge. This is the same NPA that charged the miners with murder of the 34 of their colleagues

  • Watkykj - 2012-12-01 02:56

      ntebu.mthi - 2012-12-01 12:30

Zuma is equally evading the courts of his 783 charges. Mind you there is no legal precedent, anywhere in the world, of acquital of such many charges. So should Zuma visit the courts, he is a gonna. How justice would be served if the two (Zuma and Malema) would share the same jail cell - kade besihlukumeza now they need to pay.
