Malema must 'hand back land'

2012-10-16 18:45

Johannesburg - Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema must hand back all the land he owns to the Khoisan, AfriForum Youth said on Tuesday.

"Malema's ancestors also migrated southward and arrived here in South Africa without land," chairperson Charl Oberholzer said in a statement.

"For this reason, we are of the opinion that Malema cannot lay claim to the contributions that white people have made to South Africa."

The organisation was responding to comments Malema made during a wedding in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe's Herald Online quoted Malema as saying youths in South Africa were calling for whites to surrender land and mineral resources they held because "when they came from Europe they did not carry any land into South Africa".

"What we are asking is for them to surrender our minerals because they did not come with any minerals. We want that land and those minerals for free, because they never paid for those minerals."

Malema said whites committed murder to get land.

"Actually they killed people to get that land and those minerals. We are not going to give them money when we take the land back, because it will be like we are thanking them with money for killing our people.

"We will never do that. Little did they know that we are not scared of blood. We are scared of defeat. We don’t want to be defeated, but seeing blood is not what we are scared of, as long as that blood delivers what belongs to us [and] we are prepared to go to that extent."

Oberholzer said Malema was "romanticising violence".

"History is complex and to spread a distorted version of it simply amounts to vandalism against every South African who wants to make a positive contribution in this country," Oberholzer said.

"As young people we are here to stay and we will not run away from our problems either. No community should step back when it comes to defending the right to peaceful co-existence."

Who is the malema fellow? Does not sound like someone anyone should be giving a damn about.

      helmut.smrz - 2012-10-16 20:03

@Tim. Malema is too dangerous to be ignored, he reminds me of my great great uncle adolf who started a war and genocide

      tim.gordon.5011516 - 2012-10-16 20:25

@Helmut - His power is limited to that which we give him.

      stephanie.sutherland41 - 2012-10-16 23:12

@phuti -What are you going to do with that land if the whites remove all buildings, fences, flatten all houses and pull down and get rid of all power to the land and leave you with it as it was with no animals on it. Are you going to let people squat and then what? Where is the food going to come from to feed them. How long till they turn on you once they realise that no farmers mean no food and its your fault? People only stay ignorant till they are forced to face the truth.

      gerhardus.stefanus.5 - 2012-10-17 07:40

@stephanie.sutherland41 - I think we are already on that path, we actually have to import to feed our people, where we ussually had exported. The thing that concerns me is malema just admitted that he would commit genocide to take the land by saying "as long as that blood delivers what belongs to us [and] we are prepared to go to that extent."

@kolobe: We waaaant, we waaaant, we waaaant - why not try and work for it, do an honest day work, and thereafter you can say "what rightfully belongs to you". P.S. Your Facebook Profile picture shows what happens when whites leave... as this is exactly what happens just North of the Limpopo - you should be apologetic for that....

      andile.vabasa - 2012-10-16 22:13

@Kolobe, what did they take? Far as I know there was nothing here when they landed??? just a few black tribes running around. Other than that I don't think there would have been much else here if not for them.

      andile.vabasa - 2012-10-16 22:15

What land issue.. There is no land issue, its simple, you buy it, you can own it just like everything else, everywhere else in the world. No hand outs, life don't work that way. - 2012-10-17 00:25

Fully agree with Andile. Nothing in life is free. As history shows, land was traded for other valuables. In other words, sold by the tribal leaders. Today nothing has changed. If i want your house, i have to work hard and get the money to buy it from you. No land ISSUE. Just a misunderstood little man spewing fire because he is about to get his justice for stealing from hard working people. 52 million , starting, as i recall.

Us Xhosa's actually co-existed with them for centuries hence the 'clicks' in our language. As I said earlier the land issue is a hot one and should be treated carefully.

Anthropology has deduced that the Nguni's migrated south from Central Africa.....but if you want me to entertain your line of argument then STOP using the white mans propaganga cause we(blacks) did not record an inch or our history...the verbal history we might get sum info on has been distorted so much that you think Shaka was the first Zulu King....

A little knowledge can be misleading, John. Statistics released by the government as recently as a month or two ago states that more than 93% of land claims by people affected by the 1913 act and after have been settled. Care to call your own government liars? Oh and now suddenly the Khoisans are included when you speak of blacks. Damn, its nice to be able to change the rules and history to suit your faulty reasoning. See for a map of distribution of the Khoisan before the northern tribes migrated down in Africa.

      geronimo.feather - 2012-10-16 22:18

LOl LOL LOL! @ john.c.mohale "Blacks including Khoisans, never oppressed each other" LOL LOL LOL! The arriving Bantu tribes persecuted the Khoisan...they Khoisan were pushed by the Bantu tribes to the very edge of their range - the high mountains of the 'Berg and the deserts... thanks to your invading colonisers! Ever heard of the Mfecane? Ever heard why the Matabele tribe ended up in Zim? Ever heard why the Swazis headed for the hills of Swaziland, and the Sotho for the mountains of Lesotho? Even Shaka Zulu was assassinated by one of his black half brothers... yet here you are seriously trying to tell us "blacks never oppressed each other"! LOL LOL LOL! History clearly not your strong point! What about woodwork?

      thando.ramncwana - 2012-10-16 22:23

@ John, as you said ignorance is a very dangerous element to have. The land claims are based on th 1913 Land Act yes, but who really owned this land in the 1200's......yes the whites came and dispossed us and made us slaves, nothing unique in the western world development framework. We dispossed a few tribes when we migrated to the south from Central Africa, we assimulated them into our tribes....yes we did not enslave them. Im talking of African history not your bantu South African history. Now to dispel a fallacy you raised.....we had inter-tribal wars way before the whites made contact with us, to quote a recent incident in history is the Zulu Kingdom. Do you think Shaka negotiated when he was conquering other tribes?...NO.....he dispossed many tribes with his Zulu Kingdom feat. Stop being ignorant and try to build a united, non racial South Africa. Economic Freedom is a reality we must realise but with caution.....rhetoric wont make good governance John.

      andile.vabasa - 2012-10-16 22:27

Oh my word what is everyone's deal, who gives a crap about who did what a hundred years ago, circumstances were completely different back then. Would everyone get a life and move forward we are living in the 21st century for crying out loud. If you want something you need to buy it weather you are black or white. @Sibusiso, like you said, black people around here didn't own land they just ran around and hunted. If you want that then do it anywhere in Africa where there's no mans land it would be the same thing really. Stop blaming whites for this and that cause you are an idiot, we would be sitting in a little hut with no hot water or electricity if not for them anyway. I am sorry but that is the truth, the sooner you face it the sooner you can move on with your life.

      thando.ramncwana - 2012-10-16 22:36

John you have the audacity to include Nelson Mandela in your comments, he was the one person who should have harboured such feelings you have but NO, he came out and preached reconciliation. Yes the white man didnt ask for forgiveness when the majority of us black people said we forgave them. But if you are an ANC member as I am then you will understand my progressive approach. Not being an Uncle Tom as you think. 18yrs of freedom has seen little change to the majority of black people economically but that is not due to apartheid policies only....we should put blame on our deployees as well.

      alfred.neumann.142 - 2012-10-16 23:24

@sibusiso, who said whites are not native to SA? Since we're inventing the most convenient history possible for ourselves and you've just decided that the bantu's miraculously appeared in SA as indigenous natives I'll invent the same BS fairytale for whites and simply dismiss any evidence you have to argue it as "propaganda written by the evil Africans". Sorry sibusiso, but as much as it irks you you are as foreign to SA as Europeans are. YOU are the "mtfkn settlers" my self righteous, self entitled little friend. - 2012-10-17 00:36

@Sibusiso ... "our shores" , you were here at the time....Heres a reality check, the lines on the world chart that says south africa looks like this and these are our borders, werend really around in 1652 mother hen. Im not a settler by the way , im a south african like you. suck it up and get angry cause thats what my id book also says. Also then, the Zulu president Zuma isnt entitled to the land, because hes forefathers grabbed and killed for it while traveling north....

      keithpatkell - 2012-10-17 14:09

@MKOKO AND MOHALE how uninformed or obtuse ARE you? Here’s a modicum of enlightenment! Black people who wish to play the race card when confronted, by denigrating “white settlers”, should take cognisance of the anthropology of Southern Africa. They will learn that the Nguni migrated from the Niger delta to colonize South Africa, originally populated by Khoi and San people (historically incorrectly known as Hottentots ). These indigenous people whose original territory spans modern day South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Angola are referred to as Bushmen, San, Sho, Barwa, Kung, or Khwe. They were traditionally hunter-gatherers of the Khoisan and Khoikhoi! Mfecane was a period of chaos and destruction among indigenous tribes in Southern Africa between 1815 to about 1840, while Shaka created the militaristic Zulu Kingdom. His forces caused waves of misery and disruption to sweep the land. The movement of displaced peoples caused some tribes to dominate smaller groups, leading to widespread warfare. Mzilikazi, king of the Matabele, dominated the Transvaal. During his reign, roughly from 1826 to 1836, he ordered widespread killings and devastation, to remove all opposition and to establish the new Ndebele order. The death toll has never been satisfactorily determined, but the region became nearly depopulated. So if black racists feel the need to accuse whites of colonizing their land, how do you think the KhoiSan people feel about YOU?

Any politician are just as bad as the next, no matter what the race! i was almost stabbed 6 times throu my car window for my phone by 2 black men (ages 17 -18), but what a hell. It will get back to them x3 worse, and i believe thats why the cure for aids and all these african viruses still dont have cures released, and we all know there are cures by the way. What go's for land, What the hell do i know, im the same age as Malema, and saw maibe a glimps of apartheid, but today 80% of my company are black people, of which some deserve to be there and some not, but people, to beat each other over land? I think we should go back to the bible and learn about wisdom, becouse we all have a lack of some, becouse we fight over something that you leave behind when you die. If war should come, i hope that day, i stand next to a black man fighting a war not for land, or money, or riches, or power. But a war against the mark of the anti christ

Wuld white farmers hand back land also?or t is jst meant for juju only.

      dan.ledwaba.5 - 2012-10-17 02:13

I think what juju and these guys are saying is: 1. EVERYBODY must give their property: -the farmers must give farmland -the home owner in the suburb must give his house -the shack owner in the township must give his shack -the bird in the tree must give his nest -the elephant in the bush must give the bush -the fish in the river must give the river 2. Now we put it in a BIIIGGG pot. 3. Now we decide who is going to get what. But don't be worried. The birds, animals and fish will get everything because the South African ppl will fight over it, shoot and kill until everything and everyone is gone and destroyed. The animals were here first!

      hettie.hansen.3 - 2012-10-17 13:49

Ayanda what exactly do you mean. You know when I grew up I had to work in our own garden, witch supplied us with fresh veggies, and clean the chicken coup and take out the eggs for tomorrows food on the table. We actually worked to put food on the table and a roof over our heads. My mother chrochetted and baked for an extra income. We did not sit and shout give us land and give us food. I think that is what is wrong with our youth, they expect everything on a silver plate to be handed to them. Get up learn and get yourself a good job hopefully, and stop crying over history. The government did not hand out houses to the whites we had to work for it and buy it,we did not get free food we had to grow it and work for it,so please do not get the impression that we got everything for free. The whites made a lot of mistakes but I am sure we bended backwards to put it right in the 18 years since apartheid, but we brought up a youth that wants to blame everything on apartheid instead of learning and working.JUJU is a lazy violent man that is scared of an youth that will maybe one day think for themselves and create a better S.A. Think....

(Yes, they HACK each other to death with pangas!). The animals who are responsible for making SA the rape capital of the world? The animals who sell human parts as medicine? The animals who, when they protest, bring no change of heart, but rather leaves destruction and death in their wake? But hey, we are all just animals in the end.

I think Europeans are trying to make Africans to feel like them. this is Africa and again before you folks arrived here we use to walk around freely and you put borders that prevented us from moving around in our own land now you come with stupid defense strategies Khoikhoi and San are our fellow Africans like any other Africans tribes. so please stop with your weak claim.

      Karel du Toit - 2012-10-16 19:55

yes walk freely with no clue on any minerals or about farming on large scale.

      schalk.jonker.1 - 2012-10-16 19:59

all you blacks please take note!!!!!!! all the history books was written by white people, we brought civilization to this country. if we didn't build these mines you wouldn't even knew about all the minerals... so rather come and praise us for trying to civilise you lot... but we must admit to one thing, we failed in trying to civilise you lot....

      george.killian.16 - 2012-10-16 20:25

@Lukas,the car you drive was invented by the white man,the computer you use was invented by the white man,the english language you use is a white man's language. Why are you trying to be white?

      phumudzo.mudzusi - 2012-10-16 21:44

But schaik, the \knew\ is a wrong tense in that statement.I wonder who the real whites are in this country when the likes of you writes Bantu english.

  • badd.azz.5 - 2012-10-16 19:51

Malema has not asked for the land who owns to be excluded from nationalisation. And nationalisation is in no way a racist theory, it means the land shall belong to all the citizens of this country, black, white, coloured, Indian etc, that includes Khoisan ppl. In Mozambique, all land is owned by the state and citizens are granted tenure ship.

      bradley.kecskes - 2012-10-17 11:26

      george.killian.16 - 2012-10-16 20:21

OK,to start this country without any racist, you should start by giving all your wealth to the majority, and if you resist you will be seen as a racist by the majority.Which makes you a racist.

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-10-16 19:52

Mike , this is Africa son , adapt or die . The harde ga¤t attitude of apartheid reasoning and lies has no place if you know whats good for your kind . Hiding. george.killian.16 - 2012-10-16 20:13

What about the farmers Beth, why are you more concerned about the rhino's if more farmers have been killed than rhino's.You should get your priorities right.

  • michelle.mackenzie.779642 - 2012-10-16 19:55

Land is always going to be an emotive issue but we need to look forward instead of looking back. All of the rhetoric from both sides get us nowhere. The govt make noises about a land audit but it has yet to materialise. If it's done we can see who owns what and then decisions can be made based on factual information. If its true that white farmers have 99 year leases (signed with the NP govt) for ridiculously low rent then they must reciprocate by working with govt to train black farmers. This is about more than a piece of real estate, it's about long term food security for us all.

      george.killian.16 - 2012-10-16 20:18

@ Michelle, why do you argue like a liberal. It is the fault of the liberal that this country is in this current state of genocide!

      michelle.mackenzie.779642 - 2012-10-16 20:28

who's arguing? It's simply my opinion. The country is in a mess for many more reasons than people being liberal. If we aren't prepared to work together, what hope do we have?

  • schalk.jonker.1 - 2012-10-16 19:56

Ja davison but i suppose you forget about over 200 million to be spent on upgrading a home and the billions that government have squandered, thats why people live in shacks,oh,not every human in the world can be a millionare its not going to happen bud.

      davison.sibanda - 2012-10-16 20:06

But did white pple bring all the fortunes that they have to africa?definately no!

      lovenergy - 2012-10-16 21:20

Whenever ANC corruption is exposed (Nkandla) julius or someone else will conveniently make wild racist statements in order to turn black against white. As soon as they think their supporters are turning against them they turn us agaisnt each other whilst they shovel caviar. We are so easily deceived

  • rasthami.m1 - 2012-10-16 19:59

Afriforum ?! Really are amateur in your statements you like a bunch of retards trying to convince themselves that they know the secret passage the heaven -the land belongs to the black people which you murdered and all the khoisan which hunted and killed !

      fabian.houten - 2012-10-16 20:03

and the technology? if not for that u would still be sitting in the bush dancing around a fire

      thomas.twigg.90 - 2012-10-16 20:16

The land belongs to all south africans!! Julius Malema is destroying the legacy of Nelson Mandela and what he stood for. The media is giving too much publicity for Malema. If something soon is not going to be done to this fool, I foresee a full scale civil war. It is beyond me how people even some of them in the ANC top structure can support him. Once again, its to enrich themselves. Wake up and smell the coffee people, the ANC can't govern this country.

      brendon.nel.7 - 2012-10-16 20:18

Eeeeeh wrong. Again. The black tribes dispised the Khoi just as much if not more than the white settlers. How do u think they ended up so far south.

      rasthami.m1 - 2012-10-16 20:33

Really brendon?? They is no part which states hunting down khoisan ,and putting a price on their heads you made your own version of bounty hunting

      brendon.nel.7 - 2012-10-16 20:55

I never said that settlers never killed or hunted the Khoi. Its historical fact. But the black tribes not only killed and waged war against other black tribes but the Khoi as well. And so did whites. Hell we been killing eachother for thousands of years. But does it really matter? We here now and ur heads up in the clouds if u think whites are going anywhere.

  • Marco van Rensburg - 2012-10-16 20:03

      vusi.chaka - 2012-10-16 20:23

President Nelson Mandela broke our hearts.he snubbed us when calling on Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe to release Kevin Woods, who is serving a long prison term for attacking Azanian freedom fighters in that country

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-10-16 20:07

It amazes me how people say europeans murdered for land.I did many army camps and we never murdered one single person,we kept the peace between factions as best we could.Guess who was killing who but nobody sees that.Murder and faction fighting started long before the so called european came here. Now who do you blame, obviously not yourselves because you live in denial.

  • eddie.botha.3 - 2012-10-16 20:08

I don't really think racism is tha way forward...ya asking for \your land back and kicking tha whites out???\I huv been in this country for 2yrs now and I love it the way it is...u start a war and you will end up loosing tha little u huv. Back home (in kenya) our politicians are actually tha highest paid in Africa if not the world..tha common man is been taxed to death and it's not that we go to the streets and throw stones at them, no..we just pray that things get better and huv peaceful protests hoping that tha government will listen..and it [sometimes] does listen..

  • - 2012-10-16 20:15

Is Afriforum a political party now? If so, their youth league is just like the ANCYL, maybe worse. It happened in Zim. People hardened their positions, and in the end, everyone lost. If the police can't keep you safe at your barricaded home in town, imagine the thugs hunting you like animals on farmland. All the nonsense here is based on ignorance. When civil war comes to your door, you won't have the comfort to write all the nonsense I see here. War is a serious issue and its almost always started by spectacular idiots. Don't toy with the stupid idea that you will fight blah blah. You will probably be killed before you can say 'fight'.

      Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-10-16 20:23

Teddy we are all losing already.I agree with what you say, there are too many radicals and they should be removed or is everyone too bang broek.
