Mangaung 'not just about elections'

2012-12-14 09:01

Johannesburg - The ANC's 53rd national conference is not just about choosing leaders, the party's secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Friday.

"This is not a conference about electing leadership as it is projected," Mantashe said at a business briefing by The New Age, which was broadcast live on SABC2.

It is a conference about "grappling" with policies and putting together a leadership that will grapple with those polices, he said.

ANC policy head Jeff Radebe said the outcome of the conference would affect society as a whole.

Mantashe said the organisation was tightly-knit during the struggle against apartheid, but that once things opened up, "mosquitoes" with different objectives had started treating elections as life and death struggles.

Radebe said the conference would remove the "rotten elements", and keep those who put the ANC first and not themselves.

... but also how many hands can fit into a cookie jar.

      kalabafazi - 2012-12-14 09:13

And how to make the cookie jar bigger...

      rontheogre - 2012-12-14 09:25

This is the first and last and most important point on the agenda. looking back at the actions of some of the ANC members in government, nothing else matters BUT the cookie jar.

    "Grap-a tender" summit.

  • themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-14 09:10

You are so wrong Gwede. History has shown that the elective conference is MAINLY about who joins Mshowerlozi on the feeding trough to rob the taxpayer and enrich self, friends and families as South Africa slides down towards anarchy and dictatorship ala Zimbabwe style. Thankfully, the ANC's days are numbered.

      luviwe.jay - 2012-12-14 09:31

So lying is in their genes if I get you corretly? Wha a pathetic b........of public cheaters.

      warren.rodel - 2012-12-14 10:20

@nkosi, if that is the case then lets all vote for IFP rather, lets move away from ANC and get another party that can do the job, all South Africans deserve proper public service.

      talana.malherbe - 2012-12-14 10:24

What's wrong with you Nkosi? Yesterday we were critisizing Jeremy Cronon for the crap he was talking and he is as white as can be.... no, if you still believe the critisism of the nation is about colour then you are the racist my friend!

      Adeeb Saban - 2012-12-14 10:47

Nkosi, race aside, how do u justify the widescale looting of state coffers???

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-14 11:37

Tsheda, remind anyone who attacks the "black" government for their hypocrisy and ignorance, by telling them about senior white, coloured and indian ANC members who must have brought a significant white, coloured and indian constituency in order to qualify for a senior position in the ANC. That, is the policy of the ANC. For example, had Kortbroek not brought with him a significant NP voting fodder, he would not even have smelled a cabinet position. He got promoted to Minister (from Dep Minister), which means he must have increase his constituency and the number of white members in the ANC. Pik Botha also came back from retirement about 6 or so years ago, joined the ANC hoping for a senior position. He was told to "bring a constituency which he was representing. He could not, and is now an ordinary member, that is if he still renews his membership annually. Once you have done that, which I do quite often, then tackle the issues that the country is grappling with under the current ANC leadership

  • andre.vandeventer.16 - 2012-12-14 09:11

The ANC is grappling with everything, especially not telling the truth!

      Desilusionada - 2012-12-14 09:38

The ANC's national conference is about grabbing with both hands and putting together a leadership that will grab more from the poor, secretary general Gwede Mantashe says. There, that is how the sentence should read............

So "rotten elements" will be thrown out. ie If you don't support Zuma you must go. So this is democracy that the rest of the world can learn from, Zuma? More like something that would come out of a dictatorship. Support the dictator or get kicked.

      Eterni80 - 2012-12-14 09:28

errr...ok, so the halls will be empty if they 'throw out' all of the cANCer trash ?

  • chiepner - 2012-12-14 09:17

Removing rotten appels - really? What would your definition be of rotten apples - those who condone corruption, misuse tax payers money and enrich themselves and also has little vanity projects running on the side? or would it be those who oppose all the above and seems hell bend on exposing those leaders and not supporting them at all?

      charlesbronson.bronson - 2012-12-14 09:28

The biggest rotten apple is the one you vote for - The most corrupted useless JZ.

  • luviwe.jay - 2012-12-14 09:23

PEOPLE FIRST!! You are living in a fantasy world mhlekazi. Look at the killings in Mpumalanga, KZN and North West. The latter is not 48 hrs old of which I thought it would have been a good reminder. The other one was lucky to escape unharmed I don't remember his name, but I think than is not more than 3weeks in Mpumalanga if not mistaken.

  • Eterni80 - 2012-12-14 09:24

yes Greedy, it's about how to cover up all of JZ's f ups.

  • mossie.geldenhuys - 2012-12-14 09:26

    Mangaung 'not just about erections'!

      dave.elmore.5 - 2012-12-14 09:44

      Haaa, Chineeese infuenza in erection!

  • Mbuso Siera - 2012-12-14 09:32

its very true Mangaung is going to about the restructuring of the ANC to provide stability nd growth....putting up polices that will shift this country to another dimension nd lots more....to benefit the majority....in all sectors.....its not what the media is portraying it to be about......i suggest ppl watch the live coverage of the conference, rather than reading lies from the news papers.....

      kalabafazi - 2012-12-14 09:40

Hahhahahahaha. Enjoy Manguang. You must be one of the party goers. No one else is stupid enought to believe that.

      dave.elmore.5 - 2012-12-14 10:08

Watch the live coverage? You kidding? Only dead people would watch that live coverage

      steve.ritchie.739 - 2012-12-14 10:16

Can't wait for the chair-throwing to start!

      talana.malherbe - 2012-12-14 10:27

Mbuso in priciple yes that is what will be discussed and broadcasted. This is done every time but our problem is once the conference, like every time, they come back to corruption and fraud and very bad service delivery. Discussing policies and restructuring and improving is one thing problem is they never do anything about it.

      Adeeb Saban - 2012-12-14 10:43

Mbuso, please remove ur head from Zoomas disease-ridden rectum

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-14 11:46

I doubt it will be broadcast live mbuso. Gwede will allow snippets of what look "good", such as singing and dancing of fat tenderpreuners, and ocassionally make a statement. We won't see the horse-tradeing and deals being struck for future tenders and kickbacks

  • gary.desousa.5 - 2012-12-14 09:43

Please tell me that all the other parties were at the live sabc broadcast so that it was balanced like the radio side. The politcal speak from this mouth is like a mac vs 1 and of course its all bull.

  • Swapie - 2012-12-14 09:49

This conference is a farce. How can policies be decided by a handfull corrupt politicians that will influence the lives of millions? Its a damn joke.

  • alain.d.thomas - 2012-12-14 09:50

Correct - Its the ANC staff XMAS party and end of year bash. Johnny Blue Label flowing, Texan Steaks braai'ing, braai, swaai and a .... lol Wish I could go... I'm sure the tenders are all wrapped up in nice decoration. XMAS is the time for giving after all

  • khumo.lebone - 2012-12-14 09:59

And I thought Mangaung was about singing. That's basically all these guys are gonna do there.

  • Gerhard - 2012-12-14 10:02

Rather "crippling" leaders of the ANC...

  • khumo.lebone - 2012-12-14 10:03

I saw someone packing a cardboard full of rotten apples in a bakkie destined for Mangaung. Those rotten apples will end up in some people's faces. We'll lie down and watch the circus unfold.

      lawrence.brown.5243817 - 2012-12-14 10:22

Is that how our government ministers got there....every last rotten apple of them!

  • marc.ross.965 - 2012-12-14 10:09

The upcoming erections are crucial if the ANC wish to continue screwing the public.

      leonard.kopela - 2012-12-14 12:59

indeed it is a very crucial and i hope delegates will rise above all and remain discipline
