Mantashe 'bit disappointed' at NEC outcome

2012-12-23 16:28

Johannesburg - ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe is somewhat disappointed at the party's national executive committee elections held this week in Mangaung, the City Press reported on Sunday.

"I was a bit disappointed at the outcome. I would've liked to see continuity at the top," Mantashe told the newspaper.

According to the newspaper report, Mantashe said meetings were held to try convince former ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe not to contest the presidency position against Jacob Zuma.

He was apparently asked to rather continue in his position as deputy.

"But if you can't convince someone, you can't convince someone."

At the ANC's national conference, Motlanthe lost to Zuma in the election for party president.

Motlanthe also withdrew his nomination for deputy president. The position later went to Cyril Ramaphosa.

Asked if he would like to one day become party president, Mantashe told City Press, "When you are SG [secretary general] you are at the top. Why would I want to go higher?".

Asked if he would like to one day become party president, Mantashe told City Press, "When you are SG [secretary general] you are at the top. Why would I want to go higher?? I would have sworn that the party president is higher than him or does he think hes all powerfull?? Or he cannot understand a simple hirachy?

      infijar.ken - 2012-12-23 18:06

I notice the ANC have not gone for the racial mix quota, required of employers! As for the gender quota, even more remiss. What sat you Zumantashe?

      geronimo.feather - 2012-12-24 00:43

Mantashe is an idiot, an old goat.

      MrSerenador - 2012-12-24 12:34

Yes he is and sure at the present moment is happy and comfortable where he is. I think chief you should focus on your DA politics and leave our ANC's because you don't know or even understand us. You should ask the coconut Lady Lindiwe Mazibuko if would like to to be a DA president.

Motlanthe is not stupid,so he can't force to work with the people who don't want him.Even if they can try to make it sweet to the public about Motlanthe, the same Mantashe is most poison in the liberation movement. They don't want cde Motlanthe, and they did'nt want him even before. No one can tolerate that heavy burden of Zumantashe.Trevor Manuel also ran away. They must expect much exits after this festive season.Motlanthe contested deliberately and he was aware of that he won't emerge, just because he was looking for exit.He is relieved now,and they must celebrate to the sky.

      maholwana.mawethu - 2013-01-25 07:20

Trevor Manuel is not selfish he is giving others chance to go and eat, unlike people who are like Mugabe they want to power forever like does people who formed COPE when they lost at Polokwane power mongers greedy for top gorvment jobs to be ministers.

  • philemonmaepa.phatlane - 2012-12-23 18:34

u think people r stupid.u hate montlanthe from the start.let kgalema resign from your anc.even malema is ur enemy.

  • lacrimose.wolf - 2012-12-23 19:28

Of course he would like "to see continuity at the top". That way the status quo remains the same. Not that it's going to change so very much anyway. After 4 years of JZ telling his own cabinet and parliament members to wise-up, get cracking etc, not one has listened to him - and he re-shuffled 3x. I remain skeptical that if the CIC can't get his own acolytes and appointees to do anything, Cyril et cie are going to have any greater success

  • charles.kubhayi.3 - 2012-12-23 19:29

Mantashe must just keep quiet and not comment about the Mangaung outcome because any comment might lead to misinterpretation and therefore divisions.

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-24 11:18

What, did he expect a knighthood? Don't you just love how their special brand of democracy work?.

  • mohlaoliwilliam.khambule - 2012-12-26 13:29

At the ANC we ELECT and not SELECT.before the proper congress in Mangaung there was a Shamefull so called congress, attendances were wearing blue worn out T-shirts.The Lady President was singing an out of tune brendas song dancing and putting totaly un reachable targets.DA Must forget. In 2011 for one reason i decided not vote and i was 980 KM away from home, the evening before the elections i saw one stupid lady in blue worn out T-shirt dancing up and down yelling the down fall of the ANC in the Elections and i immediately got in the car and drove home to vote for the ANC.This year ANC concentrate more on Equity,Gender Equality and Salary alighnment.
