Manyi no longer speaks for govt

2012-08-27 14:31

Johannesburg - Government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi's contract has not been renewed, the presidency said on Monday.

"Mr Manyi left his position on the 25 August 2012 after serving his full three-year contract," the presidency said in a statement.

Manyi was CEO of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and Cabinet spokesperson.

He joined GCIS in February 2011 from the department of labour, where he was transferred to complete the rest of his contract as director general in the public service.

The presidency said Manyi had done sterling work in communicating Cabinet decisions and government policy.

"Mr Jimmy Manyi was very instrumental in communicating government programmes particularly the five priorities of government to the people of South Africa.

"He has made a good contribution to government communication and Cabinet communication processes," said Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Minister Collins Chabane.

"On behalf of the president, Cabinet and government, I would like to thank Mr Manyi for his contribution to government communication."

Chabane has appointed Phumla Williams as acting CEO of GCIS until the position has been filled. Williams was the deputy chief executive officer of corporate services.

Manyi's position would be advertised and filled after a suitable candidate had been found, the presidency said.

On August 6, ANC Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Jessie Duarte issued a statement denying that she was replacing Manyi as head of GCIS.

"I want to state that such allegations are misleading to the public and they are not factual.

"I want to place it on record that any senior position available in government has to be advertised, interviews will follow and recommendations go to the Cabinet before one can be appointed to the position of director general.

"I can confirm that the position has not been advertised yet and there is no one associated with the position," she said.

    Thank God he is gone!!!

      Rabbler.Rouser - 2012-08-27 14:40

Hopefully he won't pop up somewhere else again. We don't need to be subjected to his insane and ridiculous utterings.

      michael.vanrheenen.9 - 2012-08-27 14:46

      Who is this guy again???

      peter.ndamase - 2012-08-27 14:46

I would like to see Manyi taking full responsibility of BMF, and he must also sit on the government's transformation committee. There is still over-concetration of the minority in all key business industries.

      pierrefrewd.juice - 2012-08-27 14:50

      Wonder why that is Peter?

      pierrefrewd.juice - 2012-08-27 15:22

@currie, said to someone else, think its because they killed the rabbit.

      susanna.smit.7 - 2012-08-27 15:25

Hey, there's a job for Malema!!

      devon.riley.52 - 2012-08-27 15:28

@micheal let me refresh your memory by giving you one of his famous quotes "there's an over concentration of coloureds in the Western Cape"

      Desilusionada - 2012-08-27 15:28

" Manyi's position would be advertised and filled after a suitable candidate had been found' First time I heard these guy speak any truths. They WILL advertise and fill the position AFTER the candidate has been found (and appointed)...........

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-08-27 15:30

Mr. Manyi we thank you for nothing.

      freddie.miff - 2012-08-27 15:32

This useless cadre will be deployed elsewhere, guaranteed. Hopefully not somewhere important where damage can be done. Watch this space for the equally inefficient, bigoted replacement.

godfrey.welman - 2012-08-27 15:48 about PvD (old snorie) he enjoyes putting his foot in it.

      edwardsch - 2012-08-27 16:56

Whatever the amount - It Is Worth Every Cent!!!!!

  • peter.ndamase - 2012-08-27 14:41

Please, not Jessie Duarte as a replacement!!! She is incompetent, emotional, she is just another cadre. I would want to see Mcintosh Polela as a replacement, the man is always available to the media and public.

      bobby.rosewood.1 - 2012-08-27 15:31

      Sounds like a good choice!

  • andrew.mackie.90 - 2012-08-27 14:43

About time!! A man who could distort news to benefit himself. Wonder where he will now be deployed?

  • magomarele - 2012-08-27 14:44

Good riddance. I remember when he told us, the public, that: "eTolling is a reality, not a bad dream". Let his soul rest in pieces!

      pierrefrewd.juice - 2012-08-27 14:56

Jimmy "the milk thief" Manyi, a special kind of stupid. Maybe enrol him at UJ for political school?

  • thabo.shaku - 2012-08-27 14:52

He will now have time to enrol for a PR course!

      bobby.rosewood.1 - 2012-08-27 15:33

In the WC, by a Coloured tutor. That could get nasty.

      Willie - 2012-08-27 15:35

"...He will now have time to enrol for a PR course..." because he's got the TENDENCY of having two jobs simultanuosly

    @ peter.ndamase - The industries know better!

      peter.ndamase - 2012-08-27 15:06

Nonsense!!! The industry knows colour, that's all!!! It will only take a single trip to Mangaung to reverse this unspeakable norm.

      freddie.miff - 2012-08-27 16:32

What unspeakable norm, Peter? The one where most educated, intelligent people get the higher paying, senior positions? What an absolute travesty! Don't they know a rock driller could replace an CEO just as easily. Id10t Nothing will change after Mangaung, didn't you learn last time with Zooma? Once illiterates get into power they realise doing is much harder that shouting.

  • sakhi.TheNextKent.dlala - 2012-08-27 14:55

  • siphiwo.maurice - 2012-08-27 15:12

Thanks Jimmy for going. You have been a disaster. Hoping the current order, will get a suitable person who will respect other voices in the government of ours.

  • andre.vandeventer.16 - 2012-08-27 15:15

It is extremely worrying that ANC took so long to realize what a prize idiot he is!

  • alan.jerrold - 2012-08-27 15:16

@pierrejuice - yes good question for Ndamase. Let's see now - could it be lack of work ethic? Bad education over the past 18 years? The closure of technikons and other skills training institutes by the ANC? Good heavens no, it must be van Riebeeck's fault.

      pierrefrewd.juice - 2012-08-27 15:18

      because they killed the rabbit

  • amanda.ntshwanti - 2012-08-27 15:18

When the news broke few weeks ago of his contract not being renewed they also said the samething this Jessie is saying that the news are misleading and are not factual and it was a lie and it turns out it was tru he's been fired *wonder why they denied it* no comment would have been better I guess the source was right after all and makes me beleive that in few weeks to come Jessie Duarte will be announced as the new government spoke person!

  • firstseed.mbeva.9 - 2012-08-27 15:30

Unfortunately he will be replaced by Juju

      bobby.rosewood.1 - 2012-08-27 15:36

That would be first prize! Then we will have 24hour entertainment and we can chuck DSTV out the window.

  • steve.ritchie.739 - 2012-08-27 15:32

  • edwardsch - 2012-08-27 16:53

Thank the Lord for small mercies !!!! Good Riddance. Pity any company that decides that he would be an 'asset' to their business. Be warned, check his track record which is now a 'little' tarnished!!!!!

  • Sean.Nefdt - 2012-08-30 10:40

@peter.ndamase the best way to equalize our work force if our wealthy black comrades start using the money they made in tendepreneurship and actually start to create real jobs where we can employ people of colour or not.
