Mathale's govt must collapse - Cosatu

Polokwane - Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale's government must collapse or the ANC risks losing the 2014 local government election, Cosatu in Limpopo said on Monday.

"You see, the political danger of the current situation is that if we are not careful people can deliberately, when they are said to be leading the ANC, deliberately fail the ANC in 2014 because they don’t need the ANC anymore," said provincial secretary Dan Sebabi.

"They need tenders more than the ANC."

He was addressing about 200 protesting members of the National Education Health and Allied Workers' Union outside the premier's office.

Sebabi praised the workers for demonstrating against Mathale's administration and for demanding their unpaid bonuses.

He said the government had exhausted its budget and failed to pay bonuses because it had focused on tender projects.

The protesters demanded the resignation of Mathale and his director general Rachel Modiba-Molepo.

The national government placed five Limpopo departments under administration last year.

Sebabi said other departments would be mobilised to join the protest if workers' grievances were not resolved.

"We must push them out of office because they have lost their capacity to listen. We must make this place our own Tahir Square [a reference to protests in Egypt]. We must sleep here, eat here and wash here until Mathale is gone."

Calamity, catastrophy, disaster. Very popular in A.N.C.circles. Had they been successful, we would be very surprised.

Cosatu, if the provincial government are so good with tenders then it should be easy for them to tender their resignations too.

As the chinese said b4, the masses have boundless power. Mathale and Malema entourage must just be strong and find something better to work on, they seem to have too much time why can't they boil ostrich eggs?? Cde Dan Sebabi is a real socialist who believes in the power of the masses and that should be applauded.."Man truly achieves his full potential when he functions without been compelled by the physical necessity of offering himself as a commodity" che Guevara..

ANC lacks political will and power in the face of corruption - there is a place and time for everything in life, these people like many other in the province have made procurement their own, at the cost of so many. People should not complain they deserve the government they voted for. How else will people learn the lesson of the power of their vote.

larry, i dont see where we guys are missing the point, that whole bunch of mathale, mothiba and other departmental heads all belong in police cells. what they are still doing outside leaves me baffled to say the least. and they continue to draw a salary against this glaring evidence of theft of public funds. the government should not be allowed to collapse coz its not their personal property. thing is the rope they been given to hang themselves is unnecessarily long. national government must open a case against them to authorize their arrest. period.

Well! Cassel Mathale did not shows his leadership skills to rebuild Limpopo. He has came with Capitalist mintality where only people who are close to him and his officials was benefiting through tenders. He said he prefer to use his own car for official trips and he claim travel cost from Government,in fact real leader can't do that. Other thing if you are a leader you should empower others.Even though the people from ANC stil have hope in him, does not make him a real leaders. To save Limpopo Cassel Mathale must just step down

  • Mash - 2012-02-17 17:49
