Mbalula criticises Cosatu on succession views

2012-09-28 11:15

Johannesburg - Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has criticised Cosatu for its suggestion that the ANC should retain its current leadership, the Mail & Guardian reported on Friday.

Following their uncontested re-election as president and general secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, Zwelinzima Vavi and Sidumo Dlamini said Cosatu's decision of not contesting top positions should inspire the ANC.

"I don't know what informed Cosatu not to contest, but the ANC branches must not be pre-empted to adopt a hereditary approach. We never interfered in Cosatu's internal process," Mbalula said.

"Therefore the internal processes of the ANC must [also] be respected."

No one needed to be demonised for expressing their views on their preferred candidates to take the leadership of the ANC, he said.

"You can't preach unity without examining the leadership. It never happened in the ANC."

      Willie - 2012-09-28 11:39

Spot on this shows that this alliance is just nonsense is not working. Some people are having three membership cards for ANC,SACP and COSATU how can we enhance our democracy in such a setup. 1 > ANC should start to rule 2 > COSATU should start to deal with labour issues out of politics 3 > SACP should stop to be hitch hikers they should be on their own THEY MUST DRINK REDBULL

      tebza.ngoatoana - 2012-09-28 11:43

WE want 2nd term for Zuma...enough damage already!!!

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-09-28 11:44

InkingaYabeLungu. No, this white person will not tell you about Australia. She'll probably be asking the United Nations to come and feed you. Grow up.

@inkinga... white people are going no where, we built this country! It is as much ours as it is yours!

      sean.bagley.50 - 2012-09-28 12:00

Cosatu and the ANC at loggerheads & criticizing each other? The Trade Unions are extensions of the ANC itself,so why bother with that anyway. What's point? Two opposing but equal halves of the Black Mafia in South Arica that's marching from opposite ends of the street to fight it out, with Vavi aka Don Corleone, caught in the middle of it all attempting to mediate & reconcile, while at the same time hurling insults and counter-abuses at each other in order to provoke one another. Remember it's the last man standing that wins. Why can't people like these ever get out from their tribal warfare mindset hey?Do we just have to except that that's the way they are and so be it? - 2012-09-28 12:06

Its very important for some people to give their children the best education and to raise them in a safe and prosperous environment. These are the people who emigrate to Western countries, sad but if this is also important for you then these countries are your only hope.

      Desilusionada - 2012-09-28 12:16

@InkingaYabeLungu Yes let me tell you somethings about Australia, although what my skin colour has to do with this, I do not know and perhaps you can explain. Or is it just another of your bigotted, racist comments. 1) Australia is not a perfect country 2) Australia has a lot of red tape and bureaucracy 3) Most places are dry and hot 4) The most poisonous snakes and spiders are living there 5) The Police Force is very by-the-book" 6) There is a lot of drug addicts 7) They do not have close to the SA stats for murder and rape 8) They do not have close to SA stats for motor car accidents 9) They do not steal, lie, de-fraud, show nepotism, and have as many incompetent people as South Africa 10) They do not have EE/BBBEE and other discriminatory laws as SA 11) They do not have fat little upstarts, (that once upon a time carried a fire-arm as did most people in SA did then, but apparently this gives credibility to morons), who cheat, lie, threat other people in songs, lauder money and have no qualifications that aspire to be president 12) The do not use insults and trade racist comments when describing the leader of the opposition party 13) They do not capture little children for muti 14) They do not have a multi-wife president that have extra-marital sex and then not get divorced and resign his position 15) They do not strike and kill people....... So now I have told you about Australia. Now tell me about South Africa. And what you do to make it great........

      Joubs1957 - 2012-09-28 12:19

@ Inkinga - yes and you will come begging for food there in Aussie as soon as the last crumbs left behind by us have disappeared!

      mantothieve.missingman - 2012-09-28 12:20

@ InkingaYabeLungu , Go ask your white employer to learn you more words , you only seem to know a few, your anc education is showing here !

      claudia.meads - 2012-09-28 12:25

Fikele Mbalula is just another one of the ANC's bling, uneducated, sex-crazed, buffoons. Did he perhaps score some Wondekop-muti (that make one "wonderlik" in the "kop") that he has suddenly become so talkative..? Mbalula is one in a long line of ANC IDIOTS - they surely seem to have discovered the ultimate IDIOT MAGNET (seemingly their greatest invention to date). In fact, it is reasonable to say that is all the ANC has to offer the world: IDIOTS and NUMBERS. Not that one can figure the other out, so I guess.., GO FIGURE..! His idiocy is best demonstrated by the fact that he lauds free-speech by telling Cosatu what not to say - another Malema in the making..? Oops I forgot, he IS another Malema - viz EX ANCYL president. GO FIGURE... The only fact is: irrespective who leads the ANC, the ANC will destroy SA, it is merely a question of how long.

      matshobana.siziba - 2012-09-28 12:29

How sustainable is the endeavour by the government to give free houses without cubbing the mushrooming of informal settlements and backyard dwellers? Are these informal settlements a result of a need to solicit attention in order to fast-track getting of free governement houses? Todays topic on like tha page and let your opinion be heard.

      claudia.meads - 2012-09-28 12:46

There are a number of things you did not mention about Australia, Here are only a few: - All three the major rating agencies give it a AAA credit rating - iow its economy is working and it is sustainable (by global standards). It is also the only country (according to Fitch and S&P) in the southern hemisphere with a AAA rating (Moody's incl NZ). SA used to be up there before it was coerced to have black government - most notably post Polkwane 2007, were SA has dropped THREE places already and is evidently on a fast-track to the economic abyss (ie off the ratings lists). - It is the most competitive country in the southern hemisphere BY FAR (according to the Global Competitiveness Report). - Its GDP/capita is > 4 x greater than SA. Iow each Australian has an economic capability FOUR TIMES GREATER than the average South African. The reason people like InkingaYabeLungu do not talk about Australia is because they are worth less than 1/4 of each Australian - viz they will not survive there for one millisecond...

      Desilusionada - 2012-09-28 14:37

@Claudia Unfortunately ran out of characters. And...... they can work without supervision few potholes they are proud of their jobs the sharks are quite viscous lol they post in a language that all can understand on social forums they can and can't sometimes play rugby and cricket their education system is such that you would probably prefer your children in a private catholic school they have Excellent and Working national and private medical In short whatever their short comings (and yes they are there!) they at least work on them, but most of all they do not senselessly kill each other and vote and hate, based on colour...........

  • andrew.mackie.90 - 2012-09-28 11:24

Wonder what game you are playing Fikile Mbalula? As an ANC Minister it seems you not happy with your leadership but continue to ride the gravy train. Why not be a man and state where you stand!

      sanda.mnyazi - 2012-09-28 11:32

Its simple, Motlanthe will be president with Tokyo his deputy while Fikile will be secretary general....Zuma has failed dismally, he must go

      themba.maseko.568 - 2012-09-28 21:13

Gentlemen, Fikile lost it long time ago. He is too obsessed with ANCYL, no matter what, very sad. He will go down with Malema. At some stage I thought he would be President, but now...

      john.loveland.9 - 2012-09-28 11:44

@ sanda. If they not in politics, then what they doing in bed with the ANC. The problem with COSATU is that they more involved with politics than with labour, and like the politicians, in amassing personal wealth as opposed to looking after those they meant to represent

He didn't say anything though about Cosatu's wish that the Afrikaans and English part of the anthem be scratched.

  • dnxumalo2 - 2012-09-28 11:42

Vavi wants to remove King Mswati from the throne but he wants to make himself comfortable. Now he realized that if he talks about change in the ANC he might become notorious for having retained his chair for long.He still thinks we are all stupid to see what he is doing.

  • magomarele - 2012-09-28 11:42

Hey Mbalula, what happened to your one-night stand with Omphemetse Joyce Molamu from Mafikeng? Are you still cheating on your wife with her or reformed and repented your sins? By the look of things, NO! I suggest you go for therapy sessions.

  • ruben.maistry - 2012-09-28 12:02

The cracks are begining to appear.Fikile has his sights set.The man is playing his cards well.Another term or two he will be running for president.Individuals within the anc are now power hungry, wealth is not a problem, as they have already plundered.

  • Mlungisi Mbilase - 2012-09-28 12:04

Well it is quite good and appreciated that in the ANC there are ministers who are not swayed by deceiving ideas. Cosatu by so doing that thought they are setting a trends for other ANC alliances to follow. No alliance of the ANC has the right to dictatorship. Thrash that out Fikile.

Frikkedel mbalula you said "You can't preach unity without examining the leadership. It never happened in the ANC." but did you know that any political party that is held hostage by warring factions is soon overtaken by those that are able to adopt clear policy positions.. your CancER party is pulled in all directions (by cosatu, sacp, ancyl, the in-house anc third-force, etc) but unable to move either way and is falling apart, the cracks are widening, you are in a crisis due to all of your failures.
