Metcalfe to evaluate textbook deliveries

Johannesburg - Former Higher Education director general Mary Metcalfe has been appointed to evaluate textbook deliveries to schools Limpopo, the provincial basic education department said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi said the department had been concerned over reports that some schools were still missing books.

"Therefore the department of basic education would like to announce that Ms Mary Metcalfe has been appointed to assist with the verification of the information that the department has with regard to the distribution of these learning materials to learners in grades one, two, three and 10 in Limpopo," said Lesufi.

Some pupils have been without textbooks for the past six months after the department failed to procure books on time.

The SA principals association reported this week that schools in Limpopo had received textbooks by Thursday but not the required amounts or specified books.

Civil rights organisation Section 27 which had won a court order forcing the department to deliver the books was concerned about the reports of shortages after delivery was supposed to have been made.

The department and Section 27 agreed to appoint an independent person to verify all claims.

Lesufi said the department had also set up a call centre to enable the public to report cases in which schools had not received books.

Another job for a sympathetic cadre.

this is the woman that is partly responsible for the changes brought into the education system, she helped turn the system into what it is today,i doubt if she has the ability to evaluate anything

"Lesufi said the department had also set up a call centre to enable the public to report cases in which schools had not received books." What's wrong with the schools themselves reporting what they have and don't have? Good grief, a simple reconciliation of this information against despatch notes & delivery notes on an Excel spreadsheet is all that is required to reveal the holes. Presuming of course that the schools are capable of doing a stock take and that despatch and delivery notes actually exist .......

@Sharon I agree People forget how arrogant she was when she and Kadar Asmail started with their O.B.E changes and to date she has never had the good manners to say she was wrong. Now she will go to Limpopo to do a cover-up job for the ANC.

For this job one needs and auditor and/or criminal investigator background, a suspicious mind and an absolutely clean record. Any ANC cadre with those qualifications??

What happens after the evaluation? We've head enough of evaluations, investigations, commissions of enquiry, etc; when there is failure to deliver all the ones involved must be fired starting with the useles minister - Angie Motshekga!!

      Harold - 2012-07-01 18:09

No We must not fire these people we need to get rid of the ANC it is the policies of the ANC that are causing these problems . One of which is cadre deployment which they have stated they will continue with. The ANC is not a religion it is a useless political Party.

ths would be the same mary metcalfe under whose watch matric final exam answers were leaked 3 years in a row. SA should rest easy now.

Why don't ZJ give Angie the boot? The ANC government cannot deliver books on time, how do we expect them to run an economy.

      Sharon - 2012-07-01 09:57

I bet they have not even thought about next years books. So maybe we'll have this mess all over again.

Sy sal darrem seker meer geloofwaardige liegstories uitdink as haar vriendin Andie. Plaas hulle sommer net die "link" tussen Andie en die afleweraars ondersoek, en kyk in wie se rekenings die geld opgeeindig het?

    Another day, another deployed comrade.
