Mkhize murder a great tragedy - ANC

Johannesburg - The murder of Hibiscus Coast Municipality councillor Wandile Mkhize was "a great tragedy", the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal said on Sunday.

"Comrade Mkhize’s demise is a great tragedy and the loss is not suffered only by his family, but the entire movement," spokesperson Bongani Mthembu said in a statement.

Mkhize was a former secretary of the African National Congress Youth League in the Lower South Coast region. According to SABC radio news he had attended the ANC's policy conference.

Mkhize was killed in a drive-by shooting in Manaba, Margate, around 22:00 on Saturday, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said.

"Councillor Mkhize and a friend were walking along a road when they came under attack from unknown men driving in a Toyota Corolla."

Mkhize died on the scene. His friend was critically injured and taken to an undisclosed hospital. Mdunge said the motive for the attack was unknown.

Mthembu appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of Mkhize's murderers.

"The ANC strongly condemns this brutal act and urges the law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to bring those responsible to book."

Earlier, the ANC Youth League said it was angered and saddened by the murder.

"The ANCYL has learnt with sadness of the passing away of a fearless revolutionary and a disciplined young lion," spokesperson Khusela Sangoni-Khawe said in a statement. Mkhize had "a sharp and probing intellect, with an appetite to continuously engage even those he disagreed with".

The league called on the ANC to investigate political killings which it said were on the increase, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

"Our most sincere condolences to the Mkhize family and his newly-wedded wife in particular."

But we all like to sing "bring me my machine gun". Don't you hate it when your own stupidity comes back to bite you?

      scouter.fourone - 2012-07-01 19:49

Yup - sing it often enough, sing it long enough and its import soon becomes part of your 'culture' ...... such as songs like 'Kill the Boer'. - 2012-07-01 23:06

Drive by shooting? wow sounds just like a gangster movie. oh wait it's the ANC criminal brigade that's right. Soon we will hear how he was involved with gangsters and criminals and he must have made someone a bit upset to take him out in a mafia gangster execution style. Ooooooh, when will i wake up and realize our country is going to be just fine it's just a nightmare someone please pinch me!!!!

ANC!!! Any Murder is a tragedy. Or do you believe some are not??

  • Alan Versfeld - 2012-07-01 20:49

Any murder is a great tragedy! but i cant help asking why is there no outcry when its farm murders!!

  • Frank - 2012-07-01 20:52

This "fearless revolutionary and disciplined young lion" was no doubt involved with the usual ANC business sectors ie. drugs, prostitution, child pornography etc. Drive-by shooting is the trademark execution style of the drug industry. To compare any of these corrupt, disgusting comrades to a lion is in my opinion the greatest insult man can deliver to a noble beast.

      Lacrimose - 2012-07-01 21:39

Totally agree! Absurd anyway for Breitling-wearing, sushi-eating, BMW-driving louts to even know what a lion is, let alone what true survival means. Lions hunt today to keep the Pride going for the future. ANC feeds only on the past. viz; ANCYL with their cries for war and killing (and adopting berets of long defunct revolutionaries). Instead of attending to today's problems or helping prevent tomorrow's problems it is far easier to revel in the glory of (killing) days gone by. War and death are revered. Life today and future lives mean nothing. Only the past is worshipped and every thought, belief, action is about the past. And when the great hunting, lion who has taken care of his Pride, reaches the end of days, the Pride leave him and move on. They don't sit under a tree demunding that the rains fall, that the wildebees show up. They move on and find it for themselves. Without iPads or GPS.

Dear Frank, where are you living? if you dont like it here get the hell out so that those of us who are trying to build a united non-racial democratic SA can be left with a much easier task. Dont generalize, just as not all whites where to blame for the criminal acts when the apartheid state stole, plundered, butchered and destroyed famillies and entire communities - To call all ANC comrades corrupt, is unnacceptable. Wake up - you and all others whose negative comments posted here just adds to the hatred being brewed from your mainly white commentators. STOP it for SA sake>

      dumisiledee - 2012-07-05 11:50

@Ashika.ajudia thanks for those words, these whites (Frank and his buddies) really do perpetrate hatred

      Gidela - 2012-11-09 16:44

I understand that you people are still hung up in the past and refuse to change your perception with regards to other races. You are so indenial and intolerant, however, dont you dare describe Wandile like that, I was a very close friend to this comrade dont talk about person you know nothing about please. You are taking this too far. He was never a materialistic type of a person and never wore any designer labels or drove a flashy car. The man was very humbled and selfless compared to others of his peer. So nje just shoosh.....

  • Lindelwa - 2012-07-01 21:48

They have started slaughtering one another, fighting for positions. The size of the cake is limited, it can't accommodate all the comrades!!

      scouter.fourone - 2012-07-01 22:07

and neither can we until they start contributing in a meaningful and productive way. You can only milk a cow for so long before it's udder runs dry.

      ashika.ajudia - 2012-07-05 11:36

Shame lindelwa, are you sure you dont have another "anglicised" name such as Mary, or Janet? you sound like you call your boss Madam,

  • Koos - 2012-07-02 01:04

"The ANC needs to demonstrate that it does not tolerate wrongdoing, President Jacob Zuma says." So what did Wandile Mkhize do wrong?

  • Brenda Breema - 2012-07-02 05:46

this really gave me a shock as i knew him personally..... the law should take its cause...

      dumisiledee - 2012-07-05 11:51

What are the thumbs down for?

  • daniel.v.wyk - 2012-07-02 07:26

    What about the farmers????

      ashika.ajudia - 2012-07-05 11:40

All lives are important. The farmers are an important part of our economy and certainly Mkhize played an important part in building a non racial country. Pity you value white lives as more important. Wake up we live in the New SA- where racism cannot be tolerated- for your own children and grand childrens sake.

      dumisiledee - 2012-07-05 11:53

Forget it Ashika, Daniel and the likes think they (white) are the only important species ever. Well a human life was lost in a most terrible way and we also do sympathise with the farmers when they loose their lives as well, now a black man has died and they think he doesn't deserve the sympathy? *aaargh*

  • elkita.robbertse - 2012-07-02 08:11

All the white farmers getting murdered is a greater tragedy to to us and south africa. So Zuma just don't cry yourself to death or maybe you should cry yourself to death...

  • anton.burger.16 - 2012-07-02 09:08

    A great tradgedy???....why?????

  • Bosvark Van Rensburg - 2012-07-02 09:38

He was an ANC member and just like farmers will cry for their own. Human killing of any kind should be condemned and dealt with harshly. It is very sad to find that most of comments suddenly turns to racial wars. News24 is like a fisherman, he casts and we bite and while in the process we start biting each other. Sad..

      mbambo.shi - 2012-07-02 10:57

Crystal. He's like a refferee initiating two bulls to fight for no reason. He's right because he let people of different races to withdraw their anger towards other races through writing-expression. The bloody Councellors always recommend that, their clients writes down their problems to get over it. News24 is doing that.

      dumisiledee - 2012-07-05 11:54

No wonder we (black and white) can't stand each other, its because of these comments

  • Nicolaas - 2012-07-02 10:33

Our most sincere condolences to the Mkhize family and his newly-wedded wife in particular." Perhaps the newly wedded wife is behind the shooting? Thinking about his life insurance policies and his never ending huge govament pension? Police should start their investigation with her!

      ashika.ajudia - 2012-07-05 11:44

Nikolaas- you cant be serious- your a chip of the old PW Botha BlocK

  • Charms - 2012-07-02 11:23

Propably a drug buy that went cant just take these items from have to pay for it, the ANC rule is not yet in being a ANC member, they might have thought that taking something for free is already in place...Please, when is farm murders and the killing of all inocent people in this country (black and white)also going to become a great "tragedy"..why is it only ANC deaths that are determined as this!!!

  • evangelist.shieldbearer - 2012-07-02 17:48

"The ANC strongly condemns this brutal act and urges the law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to bring those responsible to book." Sounds like a job for the KZN Organised Crime Unit...ohwait... *facepalm* .. we had them arrested for doing just that.

      ashika.ajudia - 2012-07-05 11:43
