Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrived in Ankara, Turkey, for a two-day working visit on Thursday, the presidency said.

"The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen existing bilateral, political and economic relations between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Turkey," spokesperson Thabo Masebe said in a statement.

Motlanthe would meet the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss co-operation on energy and defence issues.

The two leaders would jointly chair the South Africa-Turkey Bi-National Commission, aimed at forging closer ties between the countries, Masebe said.

Motlanthe was accompanied by Energy Minister Dipuo Peters, Defence Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Deputy International Relations Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim for the diplomatic visit.

Another state visit to another useless 3rd world country. I wish the turkey's in power would try to improve relations with 1st world countries so that they can learn something.

Sounds like a good idea for a piss up to me. What defence issues can we have in common with Turkey?

Accompanied by 'energy' and 'defence' what do you expect? Over and above, both are not outspoken Zuma friends......Motlante might just have a need for some private conversations with the two.

The heading should read. Motlanthe love's his turkey. And visits work occasionally.

I would like to see a list of four headings for the past 10 years: Politician Country Visited Cost Result What bets the third column will run into billions? As much as we don't want these useless politicians on our land, it will financially be better for our people to keep them here than to let them gallivant all over the world.
