Motlanthe to attend ANCYL lekgotla

2012-02-09 13:12

Johannesburg - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will address the ANC Youth League's lekgotla on Friday, his spokesperson said.

"They do attend from time to time to discuss political issues," Thabo Masebe said on Thursday of Motlanthe and other leaders expected at the lekgotla.

Motlanthe, who is deputy president of both the country and the African National Congress, would not discuss the disciplinary matters that have placed the league's leadership in limbo, he said.

The lekgotla will be held after the ANCYL's national executive committee meeting. It will run until Sunday and media will be briefed on its outcomes on Monday.

Malema to open lekgotla

The ANCYL plans to discuss organisational and political developments and its progress since the last ordinary NEC meeting in July 2011.

Its president Julius Malema will open the lekgotla on Friday.

It is expected to be attended by the ANCYL's top-five officials in all provinces and three leaders per region.

The ANC's disciplinary committee of appeals said on Saturday it had dismissed appeals by Malema, his spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, and four other ANCYL officials to overturn their suspensions.

The four others are deputy president Ronald Lamola, treasurer general Pule Mabe, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi.

However, their suspensions are on hold while they prepare arguments in mitigation of the suspensions.

the circus and all the clowns have come to town,

      Tshifhiwa - 2012-02-09 13:42

We voted for them and we love them. (Proudly Black South African)

      bernpm - 2012-02-09 14:04

The ANC management behaves like a drunken driver using the whole road. @Steen...we all have to carry our own bricks in life. Wishing you luck.

      alansmartSnr - 2012-02-09 14:35

@ Steen. In your ignorance you voted them in.. and look what you got. It's nothing to boast about by backing a bunch of thieves and corrupted persons. (Proudly a green South African)

      sikhumbuzok - 2012-02-09 16:16

yes we voted for them and besides the occasional complaints i am making hay while the sun is shining. No BEE tenders. So we can complain all we like but it is what you do abt the challenges you face. Not by waiting in line for the social grants.

      Garth - 2012-02-09 16:34

@steen - that is precisely what is wrong with this country's politics. Your ignorance forces you to believe that if you are black, then there is only one party for you and if you are white, then there is also only one party for you and ne'er the twain shall meet! Just a thought, ever hear of Alec Irwin? When race no longer divides politics - pigs will fly.

i have to ask again - is this government business or party business? has the Deputy Prez taken time off from work to do this? or is he just going to bunk - because after all Parly is not important....

      Tshifhiwa - 2012-02-09 13:43

He is going there as an ANC Deputy President.

      bernpm - 2012-02-09 14:05

@Steen...they come indeed in many disguises

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-02-09 14:33

ok Steen - so is the ANC paying his salary on Friday? or is the government?

      Garth - 2012-02-09 16:36

You are frans - the South African taxpayer. And do not for one minute believe that any (Proudly Black South African) sees any wrong in this. They expect their leaders to be corrupt.

  • Shirley - 2012-02-09 13:43

This is very suspect. Not so long ago juju was calling for this man to be president and now he just "coincidentaly" is going? After all the whoha about juju suspension and ruling not overturned he just carries on as of nothing happend I think that before government implement any further alcohol restricting laws they should ban the eternal liquor flow at their lekgotlas!

      Brett - 2012-02-09 15:17

Lets hope they all get drunk (again) and beat the crap out of each other (again).

      sikhumbuzok - 2012-02-09 16:17

they are always drunk and compounded with empty heads then its mind boggling how someone becomes like tht.

  • The-third - 2012-02-09 14:20

The Youth League is an irrelevant organisation that has only itself to blame for this irrelevance. They have not produced ONE program that aids the youth. No skills enhancement, no nothing. There is no reason for their existence, period.

      trix.duvenage - 2012-02-09 15:55

Derdewors... [laat my aan 'n agterstevoor threesome dink...]

  • Nyaziwe - 2012-02-09 15:25

Judging by comments on this clear tha South Africa is still a racially polarised society and is not going to end soon if at all...ppl.shout at anything that mentioned the word ANC..its not about coruption or poverty but pure hatred by whites of black majority...its a FACT!!

      Johana - 2012-02-09 15:33

As I can notice, most comments here are about relevancy and actions of the ANCYL. How is discussion abount ANCYL purpose racial discussion?

      Brett - 2012-02-09 15:45

I think people are more concerned about the ANCYL's murderous songs, their involvement in tender rigging, their inability to actually assist the youth, their ramblings about nationalisation, their aggresive attitude to Botswana, their open admiration of Mugabe etc etc...but of course as a racist yourself, everything is about race to you...

      trix.duvenage - 2012-02-09 16:10

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Nyaziwe, you have an evil mind and that is where racism lies in this matter. People see what they want to see and they hear what they want to hear. Therefore I want to teach you something today. NO negative emotion ever leaves your own skull. In other words you can hate me with a purple passion and while that hate basically destroys your whole being, I cannot even feel your hatred. The same happens in the case of racism: While you hate the other race, THEY feel nothing and they experience nothing as a result of your hate. While 'they' carry on happily with their lives, you the racist gets destroyed by your own animosity and racism. sela.

  • Krish - 2012-02-10 07:54

And guess who will be the next president.Motlanthe he will have the support of the youth league. Mark my words.
