New political party announced

2012-11-06 10:16

Johannesburg - A new political party -- the SA National Congress -- is being launched, according to a report on Tuesday.

A notice was published in the Government Gazette last month to announce the formation of the SANC, Business Day newspaper reported.

African National Congress spokesperson Keith Khoza told the newspaper he was aware of the party's registration, but did not know who its founders were.

The ANC would file an objection with the Independent Electoral Commission about the party's name, he said.

Quoting an unnamed government official, Business Day reported that the party was associated with a group which called itself "forces of change" and was opposed to President Jacob Zuma being re-elected as ANC leader.

The group wanted Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe as the next ANC president, and if this did not happen, it hoped to launch a new opposition party before the next general elections in 2014.

      aniken.vader.31 - 2012-11-06 10:33

guys - "forces of change" sounds like Juliarse and his entourage - we are not that stupid not to realize who is doing it LOL! Looks like his blood is not anc colours after all LOL

      scouter.fourone - 2012-11-06 10:39

Divide and rule so to speak - Colonialist all through history learnt this one and it certainly worked on more than one occassion.......

      lorain.maseko - 2012-11-06 10:43

My sentiment exactly, the moment I saw that the ANC is complaining about the party, i realized that this is the party i need to vote for.

      lorain.maseko - 2012-11-06 11:30

@ PointBlank - Thank you very much I will do so,atleast if they mess up I can plead ignorance.

      burningdogz - 2012-11-06 12:52

A party started by a group of people referring to themselves as 'the forces of change'. This sounds more like a group of terrorists, perhaps a youth gang or even a group of kindergarteners playing fantasy games. It is a bit concerning as this inicates a lot about their mentality. If they want to be taken seriously they should stop hidig their names behind this balaclava of a nickname and step into the light. Who are you, what is your mandate, plans, startegies, track records? Who do you represent? Are you a group of superheroes hiding your identities fighting injustices or are you a serious party pushing a geniune agenda? Or is this all just a bluff presented to push the ANC to buckle to your demands and vote for your candidate at Mangaung? Holding thumbs though. The more parties the better.

      Montagnes.Bleues - 2012-11-07 05:51

We are not so sure, having heard that even the "refugees from eastern cape education" are now flocking to zumaville where the smell of illicit state spend is irresistible? Soon Nkandla will be made ungovernable and destabilised, bunker or flunker or swirling buxom zulu maidens in fishnet stockings (zuma wife prospects)!

Won't be long, before the two OPPOSING LEADERS of the "NEW PARTY" will HAVE THEIR DAY IN COURT... OVER IRREGULAR SPENDING etc.... Sounds like a COPE MOVE.... Laugh a minute in SA Politics!!!!!

  • jus.manning - 2012-11-06 10:26

This is Malema's crew... watch this space. They also have to name is as close to the ANC as possible, so as to confuse the rural supporters into voting for them.

      asdhasgd - 2012-11-07 12:32

      hahahahahahahah!!! love thse comments xD

      frank.cornelissen.1 - 2012-11-08 07:06

This BS is typical ANC tactics. They start a new party with a lot of groaning in the wings about it, go to the poles as mortal enemies and after the election join forces to achieve a two thirds majority. This will enable them to change the constitution and plunder the country to a standstill. I for one will not trust this new party if Juli-ass has anything to do with it as he is still as thick as thieves with the ANC.

  • gerald.mphuthi - 2012-11-06 10:27

Aren't we all tired of Zuma already...? well ,of course except KZN, because in Africa party loyalty seem to be based on race and ethnicity

  • peter.ndamase - 2012-11-06 10:29

Why don't you just support another political party than creating a new party. We need a strong opposition party that defends democracy not another "COPE"

      Jeremy - 2012-11-06 10:42

I'll reserve judgement until we find out who IS behind this new party...but, in principle, I agree with you that we need a cohesive opposition, not another little bunch of discontents with their own weird agenda!

      richard.hipkin - 2012-11-06 11:26

@Jeremy, this is just a bunch of disgruntled ANC supporters with no clear policies, nudda... moving on, this is going to be worse than COPE.

      idille.borchers - 2012-11-06 17:44

If Sam Shilowa joins the new party it will be a mess right from the start. Lets wait and see.

      stephanie.sutherland41 - 2012-11-07 14:28

@China - and how exactly do you hope this new party is going to provide you with a home? Just a question. At the rate farmers are dying i would rather be worried about how long before you won't have any food on the table. Farmers produce the food and everyone wants to take farms. Please tell me you don't expect to take someone elses home!!!

  • rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-11-06 10:50

I have very mixed feelings, even if generally positive... On the one hand anything that reduces the majority vote is good for democratic process and preservation of minority rights. On the other hand how will the anc react to this. Will they peacefully accept a reduction in power and privilege, or are we in for intimidation, violence and further degeneration of the fabric of society?

      ANYTHING but cANCer!

      nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-11-08 07:48

i think that this SANC is JM's desperate attempt to take over, he knows that he wont get in to power with Zuma around & he knows that it will take 10 to 15 years before he would have a chance at power even with Zuma gone, he is too impatient & is looking to take a short cut to power & money, to him this is the shortcut. The risk he runs is that he will now have to stand on his own two feet politically, officially opposing the ANC, this will show if he really is a leader or just a stupid loudmouth warmonger. Its one thing to stand on a podium shouting things that the masses like to hear & an entirely different thing to form an organised political party with workable solutions & policies.

  • lungile.ndyibithi - 2012-11-06 10:56

Mina I will remain a supporter of the ANC the only thing is I wont vote for it come general elections if they dont make correct decisions for the country in Mangaung. The time for selfishness and personal gains is over. As SA citizens we want a President for our country and not a village.

      linda.horsfield.77 - 2012-11-06 11:34

so despite the fact that you acknowlege tht the ANC havent made the correct decisions for the country, have acted selfishly and for personal gain - you are still willing to vote for them rather than vote for another politicial party. I would have to say your decision is based purely on race - and therefore you will get the government you deserve - who are not fit to run a bath let alone a country.

      baldersnatch - 2012-11-06 12:30

Well I honestly don't care if the ANC is in power forever, as long as they have decent leaders who empower their people via education and fostering entrepreneurship on a broader level (not this inner circle, enrichment of friends nonsense)

  • duduzile.nkosi - 2012-11-06 10:57

First COPE, now SANC, only way to save the ANC is for Zuma to bow out cos its a guarantee that the ANC will lose some voters to Sello's African National Congress.

  • lotus.river.5 - 2012-11-06 10:57

I'm imagining jm saying,:"no comrades, the anc in not the true party of the nation,it includes all other african cantries, sanc is the true movement of change"either way,I've been waiting for this announcement.its great news/for the opposition because it will further split the anc,all those opposed to jz will be out of aplace after mangaung if he's revoted, and since we all know how much they love power and mp posts, they will join jm and be leaders in the new party, leaving only one winner, the major opposition party. The ancs days are numbered and some of us will be drinking to that!oh yeah,

      nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-11-08 07:51

I agree that the ANC is useless & corrupt, but be careful of just voting for another new party that you dont know anything about. Selo's African National Circus could be a very dangerous option.

  • meltinsoldier - 2012-11-06 11:08

Start as you wish to finish -why would you want to resemble the name of the ANC-start fresh and bring in new change-look at COPE-who would want to call their party COPE-its lived up to its legacy and is bearly able to COPE-same as 1 time airline why would you call yourself that -for 1 flight only perhaps-even their logo was half a logo-just shows you they were in financial cr&p from day one!

  • steve.gibson.146612 - 2012-11-06 11:11

Isn't this nice. If this party is being formed by Malema and other ex ANC members they may in fact be funded by Corruption monies earned whilst they were in the ANC. i.e. The ANC may indirectly have financed the new party!!!!

Good news. Lets hope its people breaking away from the ANC. When COPE formed from former ANC members they eventually gained 7,5 percent of the votes during the 2009 elections. Another 7.5 percent away from the ANC would deal another great blow to the ruling party. Wonder if Malema is behind this - if he is , he might be able to lure thousands of voters from the ANC. Interesting times ahead.
