Nkandla reports about Mangaung, ANC says

2012-11-21 15:56

Johannesburg - Reports that President Jacob Zuma did not have a bond for his Nkandla home were an attempt to influence the ANC's elective conference in Mangaung, the party said on Wednesday.

"The suggestion that there was no bond was made with bad intentions to undermine the president. It also seeks to unduly influence outcomes going to Mangaung," the African National Congress said in a statement.

The ruling party was responding to reports that there was no bond registered against Zuma's Nkandla home in KwaZulu-Natal.

Zuma told Parliament last week that he sought to expand his home and that he approached a bank to secure a bond. He said he was still paying a bond on the first phase of his home.

The ANC said those claiming there was no proof of any bond were hoping to access confidential information from banks.

"In terms of the law that governs commercial transactions, there is an obligation on the part of transacting parties to protect private and confidential information."

The party called for respect for Zuma and "truthful reporting".

It said the request by opposition parties to the Speaker of the National Assembly to investigate the matter was an abuse of the Speaker's office.

"It is evident that the opposition has run out of genuine issues and resort to clutching at straws."

The "noises" on the Nkandla issue were the same as the opposition's motion of no confidence in Zuma.

"We want to state and caution media in general and opposition parties that ANC members, particularly delegates to the Mangaung conference, can never be dictated to by any outside sources when it comes to ANC internal democracy."

In the News: There is no bond registered against President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla home. When questioned about the allegations, president Jacob Zuma responded by saying that MR Bond is only coming to Nklanda next week, after shooting his new action thriller; Sky Fall.

      Montagnes.Bleues - 2012-11-21 16:52

Pierre de Vos has already LODGED PAPERS with the Public Protector to investigate all these allegations that could seemingly be irrefutably criminal. These add somewhat tot he otehr virtually proven cases that the NPA is being coerced to step away from again as Mpshe did so criminally years ago. Where is he? He should be in the same dock. Thinking of which, SA will hardly have any indian population left outside of public service after this fallout. Public service as in prison duty's. As concerned citizens it is any and every citizens duty to hold transgressors to account. Goodbye Zuma. You were the weakest link! Does trying to hold on a few extra days give his relative Khulubuse Zuma who is being held with others liable for R1.7billion recently any benefit? The one who refused to pay Aurora workers for years until they starved and the mine was a carcass. Mangaung takes on zuma at its own peril. Motlanthe should step in again temporarily and briefly at any rate, until President Zille is sworn in. Here is something else for everyone to try and remove the distasteful matter:- http://bit.ly/RTKFfS best with a bottle of "banned by unions" Cape Red Merlot.

R280m wasted! and yet people still vote for them.

      SaintBruce - 2012-11-21 18:02

I think the ANC spin Doctors are in a spin! This has nothing to do with Mangaung - just very inconvenient timing - but has everything to do with serious maladministration in the ANC led Government. How do you present a project to Parliament some years ago for upgrades totalling R 65 Million and then we find out that over R 200 million was spent? Where is the accountability? Where was the authority? Where was the process {tenders have to go via a due process if over R 500K}? Where was due diligence in the costings used? Who actually owns the land ? Who can raise a personal bond for use on Tribal Land ? Which bank can provide such an unsecured bond / loan? Who is telling the truth? Who is telling lies? If the President of the Republic stood up in Parliament and told the Nation lies, then he must be removed from Office immediately. The Highest office holds the Highest regard for truth - fudge that and it is time to go. About Mangaung - Mothlanthe may not need any nominations as JZ may hand him the Presidency all by himself!

@RPhiri..it must be anc policy to be corrupt before elected to "most senior post". The top 5 in NC all faces corruption charges.

The talk of a dictator party. Be careful ANC, the bigger you are the harder you gonna fall in the end. Keep going the way you are because we cannot wait to see the ANC collapse and when they do the flood gates are gonna open.

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-11-21 16:18

I actually dont want them to fail. They have done some good things for SA - a while ago granted. I would like to see them get rid of all the sheet and to shrink to 49 - 50 percent. The DA to 49-50 percent. Then you will see democracy in action. Sadly I suspect its Fubar.

  • bonkers.derelict - 2012-11-21 16:13

Zuma was the one who brought up the issue of the bond in the first place, so how can the ANC accuse others of influencing people ahead of Manguang? Also, misleading Parliament is most certainly a "genuine issue".

A statement like this should come from Zuma faction and not as the capacity of the ANC. Because by so doing automatically you creating a subjective view using the party name.

  • charl.malan.12 - 2012-11-21 16:22

I must say, the ANC is at the back of the cue for service delivery, basic education, the fight against corruption, basic healthcare, non-racialism! But when it comes to stalling tactics, they are #1 by a country mile! Viva DA for 2014!!

  • Erna - 2012-11-21 16:39

Firstly - 'ANC internal democracy' - the anc doesn't know what the word 'democracy' means. Look at the chaos at the various elective meetings - they prove over and over again that the anc is not a democratic organisation. Secondly - they must separate party from government. We don't care how they handle their 'democratic' elective conference at the end of the year but we do have certain rights when it comes to the way they run the country.

      Thanduxolo Galada - 2012-11-21 20:56

  • nathan.g.moss - 2012-11-21 16:53

Wow, if steeling and defrauding the country out of 240 million is not a ‘genuine issue’, then no wonder the cANCer don’t do anything. The cANCer only concern themselves over major issues that threaten the entire country, like a painting of Zuma in his true form. That’s the last time I saw them react to anything.

  • justsayingagain - 2012-11-21 17:00

all this talk about a "home" is rather confusing when, in fact, we are talking about the emergence of an entire town, or whatever the vast 'compound' can be called. R900k barely buys you a decent ride these days.
