North West ANC backs Zuma for re-election

2012-10-03 18:20

Johannesburg - The North West ANC wants President Jacob Zuma re-elected for a second term at the party’s national elective conference in Mangaung in December.

The province made a decision at a provincial executive committee (PEC) meeting which discussed the ANC national executive committee's (NEC) decision to open leadership nominations and allocate delegates to provinces.

The PEC will propose to branches that all the party’s top six officials be retained with Zuma at the helm for purposes of "unity and continuity", provincial spokesperson Kenny Morolong said.

A list of proposed additional candidates for the ANC NEC will be circulated to branches and regions to make their input before a final decision is made.

Morolong, however, urged branches to "independently apply their minds having discussed challenges that we face as a movement" and answer questions about the "kind of ANC we need to meet these challenges.”

Branches should also decide on the type of leaders the ANC needs to promote unity, said Morolong.

The North West has got a strong presence of Zuma support, though the province is torn between the incumbent and his deputy Kgalema Motlanthe.

It's one of the provinces that has decided to back Motlanthe for a deputy president, provided he doesn't challenge Zuma.

A smaller section of the North West, however, supports ANC Youth League calls for a leadership change.

Morolong said branches would have a final say.

"ANC branches should be allowed without pressure or imposition to nominate their preferred candidates for the NEC, guided by our policy discussion documents."

The PEC will convene branch general meetings to discuss leadership preferences. The North West has been allocated space for 234 voting delegates to Mangaung.

      sedick.gydien - 2012-10-03 18:46

@Siyabonga. I am a black South African - maybe not the black enough in the new SA? - but I agree....god have mercy on our beloved country. The racial-lines stratification is largely brought about by the CURRENT ANC lot, and what they are doing to our country....Manyi, Zuma and the like.....

      lownabester - 2012-10-03 18:55

So agree with you, Titus and sedick, its a long dark road ahead.

OMW another person who can only look back do you realize that if you only look in the past you are never ever going to be able to move forward in reality you will end up falling on your arse.. Your comments are truly RACIST or are you going to tell me only white people can be racist and that your race are exempt of racism..too me ot sounds more that you want a comunist (socialist) Government to distribute the wealth to your people. The ANC is in power now and still you dont have the wealth they promised and you want. Clearly you need to decide to take advantage of the oppertunities you have and make a sucess of your life study educate your self work hard. No one is going to give you hand outs you live in a Democratic Capitalistic Country this means your value is measured in your ability and not your skin color racist systems like bee give you preference in jobs and tenders. Your leaders spend millions on thier own houses and parties Corruption at the highest levels can you justify that do you blame the white man for that you cannot blame the white man for everything that is wrong in your life. You fear us but we are so few in this country. Your people are murdering each other during protests and strikes but they believe they are doing no wrong. Is murder (hacking someone to death with a panga) Not wrong? I can go on but I have made my point get over it move forward or go TOIY TOIY and hope that youre not the next one under the panga.. Rather fear your own race brutality.

      Robin - 2012-10-03 19:09

Because Zuma is uneducated he created a mindset in young black people that they can have everything and education is not needed..

I was responding to a comment that was removed by the N24 editor - the comment tried to justify corruption, fraud, waste of Taxpayers money by using race.....that is the problem when u try to bury your head in the passes u by......

division/idea difference is good for any institution, zuma is just bad

      christelle.james.7 - 2012-10-03 21:28

Division is different to "idea difference". And I agree, the latter is good, but for division - nope. Look what division did and caused and cost our country......

@Christelle, it's called democracy. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Yes, he has probably got it in the bag but how much has he bribed them all to vote for him, that is the problem. Things will get worse because more cadres etc to turn a blind eye to when he starts the next term. Yes, sitting on the side line waiting is, R203 mill upgrade on his home, New York in Zumaville on the cards and dont forget his jet. Its all zuma wants, zuma wants and zuma wants and the rest of the south african citizens must shut up and get on with their job and pay taxes. Our Country is getting down graded in all sectors yet they are blind to see what is really happening around them, they only interested in fighting it out for the richest job in the country. This is how dirty politic can get. Leaders get bought and sold with promises of a higher position in the movement and in government. The politician call this lobbing and the masses call this selling out. The side with more money and usually corrupt sometimes wins. Wait and see after JZ wins all the people who voted for him will all get higher positions and corruption will get worse. This is the dark side of politics ,the side the media doesn't cover and if they do they are also bought to sway public opinion. In this situation it ends being about JZ, right or wrong, the poor/rich people you are representing, It start being me, my position, my career, my new house and my new car, me me me , my this . Honesty fly out of the window and it no longer about the people that voted for you. What us votes want doesn't matter. Those who lead us will choose how have promise them what. We know he/she is corrupt but our leaders say we must vote for him. There is a saying "selling your soil to the Devil"
