Old flag spoils Bulls try-fest

Cape Town – The presence of the old South African flag at the Bulls' unforgettable victory of 61-17 in the Super 14 final was "absolutely tragic", says deputy Sports Minister Gert Oosthuizen.

He said on Sunday it was an insult to the government and President Jacob Zuma, who took time out on Friday to personally wish the Bulls well.

A lone old SA flag was shown on TV while the presentation ceremony was taking place. It stood out like a sore thumb amidst the overwhelming sea of Blue Bull flags and jerseys and the blue painted faces of supporters.

"I didn't personally see the flag," said Oosthuizen,  "but if it is the case, it is absolutely tragic that there are still people who would do such a thing".

"It's absolutely unacceptable, and something which the government wants to get rid of once and for all.

"It is such a pity when something like this happens - especially as South African sport is on the crest of a wave, with the Springboks and the Blitzbokke being world champions".
