Potch DA mayor 'will govern for 3 months'

2012-12-07 19:12

Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance's Professor Annette Combrinck will govern as the mayor of Potchefstroom for at least three months before she is ousted by a vote of no confidence, the ANC reportedly said.

Since Combrinck unexpectedly became the mayor two weeks ago, the DA has been on high alert for any attempts by the ANC to remove Combrinck from her post, Beeld reported.

Her predecessor, Maphetle Maphetle, said in an SABC interview on Thursday that the ANC would respect the city council rule stating that a motion of no confidence may not be initiated twice within the same three-month period.

"All is not lost," Mephetle said about the DA takeover, which happened after he and his supporters walked out after a motion of no confidence was accepted with the support of many ANC members.

The subsequently reduced ANC caucus's candidate was beaten by 20 votes to 19 by the united opposition (DA, FF and Cope), who all voted for Combrinck.

"We were irresponsible, it shouldn't have happened. The ANC deploys the mayor. Anyone who votes against the mayor is acting outside the ANC mandate. We will initiate a motion of no confidence in three months time," he said.

"We were irresponsible, it shouldn't have happened. The ANC deploys the mayor. Anyone who votes against the mayor is acting outside the ANC mandate. We will initiate a motion of no confidence in three months time," he said. Since you already plan the motion, maybe you can enlighten us on the grounds for your motion now, not in 3 months time. Sigh, how is it possible to build a prosperous country with such (power hungry) retards?

Oh give it up, you lost your position so take it like a man!

Unfortunately and legally, they have the right to put in a motion of vote for no confidence. At least, they are not going outside the law and voting her out now itself. It is unlike ANC to wait three months. Perhaps it would have been better for the ANC to try kick her out now, then at least she could have taken them to court and held the mayorship for longer than three months.

It will be like the Glynnis Breytenbach saga - they suspended her first, then looked for reasons. They are too big for their own boots these ANC cadres, and need to be cut down to size. Maybe they should eat humble pie in public rather than cake in private....

      digger.dighead - 2012-12-08 03:45

There is no understanding and reason in their little minds....that's just how they roll man!!!!

      carpejugulim - 2012-12-08 05:55

and in the meantime they will try to intimidate the crap out of the people that supported to vote of no confidence

This bull about worthless ANC cadres being deployed is making me sick. If she is kicking *ss as a mayor, then let her stay on. When are the peoples interest coming into play and not this ANC power hungry game?

If Potch became the biggest success in SA in the next 3 months, the B#### Tw### would oust her and say she must be using B##### Magic.. F###ing Morons, all "well nearly all" in SA have my deepest sympathy for having to put up with this blatant RACISM. Not long ago the world boycotted SA for RACISM maybe time to have something like that again.

      blip.noodlum - 2012-12-07 20:55

The world couldn't care two hoots.

  • christiaan.vanvuuren.9 - 2012-12-07 21:41

How do you raise a motion of no confidence when she has not done.anything as of yet?

      TSR01 - 2012-12-07 21:50

Precisely! ANC corruption and nepotism at its best!

  • amanda.matthews.14811 - 2012-12-07 23:11

yeah you rotten bag of vrot anc apples. That is exactly what we would expect of your reaction. You messed up the Municipality top such an extent and now you dont like the result. Whhaaaaaaaaa. Go and cry in your corner and think about where you went wrong. You see even in S.A. when you are "irresponsible" along comes democracy to give you a good hiding. You will have to have a real reason in three months time to try and oust the good lady. Quite frankly I think she has a job and a half on her hands - good luck to her for taking on such a mammoth task.

  • thabo.shaku - 2012-12-07 23:30

    Yet another hard political lesson!

  • Gerald Jordaan - 2012-12-08 03:55

  • alananthonygreen - 2012-12-08 06:45

    Anc scumbags

  • martin.meyer.902819 - 2012-12-08 07:58

Everyone goes on no how she should do a great job and show people what it looks like if the DA runs, but the DA is not running. Council is still the highest authority in town, not the mayor, and the council is still ANC. A mayor does not have all encompassing powers. Potch is still an ANC run city, just with a DA mayor. I hope she does well, but the council still has the final say. Her best bet in my opinion would be to use her position to uncover all the corruption. Oh an the only reason the ANC now wants to wait 3 months is because of Mangaung. If they appoint someone now who ends up being in the wrong camp, they will have to do it AGAIN soon.

  • charnelle.bester - 2012-12-08 10:17

    ANC, your pathetic.

  • mpumelelo.matross - 2012-12-08 12:44

  • barry.pointeer - 2012-12-09 06:47

so even if she does a good job there will still be a vote of no confidence??? Politics!!!
