Presidency: No wedding plans for Zuma

2013-01-06 16:23

Johannesburg - There is no truth in Sunday newspaper reports that another wedding for President Jacob Zuma is a possibility, the presidency said on Sunday.

"The presidency has noted media speculation about an alleged wedding that is on the cards for President Jacob Zuma, in today's papers," it said in a statement.

"There is no truth in the rumours that are in the Sunday papers today. The president is not planning to wed."

The presidency was responding to a report in the Sunday Times that Zuma was courted by businesswoman Nomthandazo Mathaba-Mthembu at his residence in Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal during the annual Zulu traditional dance ceremony on Tuesday.

According to the report Mathaba-Mthembu arranged a 15-car convoy to travel to Zuma's residence under the pretext of delivering gifts, but once they arrived some of the women chanted customary courtship songs.

They were not allowed to enter the premises, according to the Sunday Times.

When approached by the newspaper, Mathaba-Mthembu refused to comment on the nature of her relationship with Zuma.

Meanwhile, the Sunday World reported that the delegation was allowed to enter the celebration after five hours of waiting outside.

The newspaper reported that Mathaba-Mthembu was a special guest who was welcomed by Zuma himself, but that her presence upset Zuma's four wives who accused her of "pushing a formal relationship" with the president.

These rights are culture to the People of this land . Many races in RSA have varied cultural realities that are to be respected in a Democracy rather than disparaged like the Colonist of Old. Democracy is a right to be treated with responsibility not viewed and manipulated by alien eyes foreign to an African heart.

He is within his constitutional right to marry numerous wives and make numerous babies at the taxpayers' expense in a country where poverty is the order of the day? Were you dropped on your head as a baby?

      Kombisa - 2013-01-06 22:33

@ Themba---I am equally frustrated however the point I am making is that we need more than the current limitation clause on the Constitution. We must be smarter than him in this game. Seven more years in office and many more on retirement of him and his crew by the way is gonna prove a more doting task than the lousy speculation of damped on the head as a child.

      Mbongeni Masilela - 2013-01-07 00:59

@Rolling stone, why does it bother you so much that our president will get married once again?

  • Bongeka - 2013-01-06 16:46

The RSA constitution promotes and protects all cultures as long as they don't degrade, humiliate and demean the other persons right to dignity, privacy, life and all other rights as listed on our bill of rights. I might not practise it and subscribe to but I have a duty to respect it. My views are such that those who practise it must take full personal responsibility of all the costs, expenses, disbursement, you name it that comes along with. He has to spend the cash. Why care about the employment and the well being of the people you are not even related to. Thats how things are with sa politics. Personal spending like there is no tomorrow. Every year Billions of rands are unaccounted for from the municipalities . Does any one care? No.
