Presidency not probing NYDA spending

Johannesburg - The presidency was not probing the alleged misuse of funds by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) on Youth Day last year, the agency said on Wednesday.

Responding to a report in the Daily Dispatch newspaper on Tuesday, spokesperson Siyabonga Magadla said in a statement that the report was wrong.

"The NYDA would like to put it on record that President Jacob Zuma's office is not investigating the NYDA as alleged by the Daily Dispatch.

"As such the newspaper article is incorrect and misleading," he said.

The report states the agency was being investigated, with the focus on provincial leaders within the NYDA who organised the one-day R5m celebrations in Port Elizabeth.

The probe began after a whistle-blower made allegations to the NYDA's national office, which is based in the presidency and reports to Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane.

"The NYDA can however confirm that it is conducting its own internal investigations into allegations of possible misuse of funds allocated to the 2012 Youth Day celebrations held in Nelson Mandela Bay," said Magadla.

"Details and the scope of the investigation can however not be revealed or discussed at this stage, as this may compromise the investigation."

The only probing done is by Zoomer himself and that type of probing is not needed by the taxpayer.

This is a big oversight, but even if they do it it will be in the dustbin as quickly as they can. This is another lot to be closed down. Like dear LULU a good for nothing lot, wasting money with nothing to show.

NYDA. Such a joke of an institution.

Let the youth of this country themselves challenge these youthful fat cats who got to enjoy the spend. This president and his office are toothless sycophants themselves so it is hardly worth that effort. The youth must consolidate their efforts on an apolitical basis and demand a platform from which to challenge this regime's failures to address the basics and the issues foremost, challenges they face.....particularly when funding is siphoned off to a selrct few.

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2013-02-28 07:06

The Presidency never probes anything, that is the main problem. What happens, it just gives them the green light to say its ok to misuse funds, help yourself, we will just ask the taxpayers for more. Government could'nt even manage the funds of a brothel let alone the country, they dont ever punish depts etc that misuse or over spend. Thats why none of their enterprises can run efficiently, its a curse that eats at them all.
