Protector vindicates Sisulu - office

Cape Town - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report on special ministerial adviser Paul Ngobeni has vindicated Defence Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, her office said on Wednesday.

The ministry also called for a public apology by Democratic Alliance MP David Maynier for his "defamation" remarks, it said in a statement.

Maynier had lodged a complaint with the protector, claiming Ngobeni’s appointment as special adviser in the defence ministry was irregular.

Madonsela released her report on her investigation on Tuesday. The final report found Ngobeni was vetted in accordance with the applicable provisions of the law. It concluded there was no substance to Maynier's allegation.

Sisulu had complied with the relevant legislation, regulations, and procedures for processing Ngobeni's appointment. Madonsela said Sisulu was accordingly not responsible for any maladministration.

"The minister welcomes the findings of the public protector and calls on Mr David Maynier to apologise to Mr Ngobeni, the minister, and the ministry for his defamation remarks and all the allegations he made in the media about the appointment and process of appointment," the defence ministry said in a statement.

"The minister notes all other comments in the public protector’s report and [notes] that Mr Ngobeni is not prohibited from practising law in South Africa."

All of us expected so much more of Madonsela after her initial good start but she turned out to be just another ANC crony clown.

See, the Public Protector is impartial and unbiased... but no much can be said about the politicians though, self-serving, inferiority complex, putting the party first because the country (and the men and women they have sworn to serve and protect)... Besides, didn't the Public Protector said that the vetting process of the Defence ministry left much to be desired? Just because Mr Ngobeni was legally appointed, doesn't mean he passed all the criteria (aka the warrant of arrest in the United States? Shouldn't he or rather wouldn't he want to clear his name first?) And I totally agree, Mr Maynier should apologise. He made a bad judgement call and he. and the DA for that matter, should have done their home work and check and double check everything before lodging that complaint of theirs. If DA wants to be an effective opposition party, make sure all your decisions are made with absolute certainty so that the ruling party will not take you so lightly. As for the ruling party and its deployed cadres and the public servants should make the Public Protector as a rule model; take no sides and fulfil your duties to and beyond the call of duty!!! Wait... that is wishful thinking, with allegations of corruption and collusion and maladministration hanging over almost every ministers' heads!
