Ramaphosa backs 'action man' Zuma's leadership

2013-01-10 22:57

Pietermaritzburg - ANC president Jacob Zuma is the "action man" who will lead South Africa to prosperity, his deputy Cyril Ramaphosa said on Thursday.

"The time for talking is over. We want action, and action man Jacob Zuma will ensure that this country moves forward," he told African National Congress members at a "cadre's forum" in Edendale, Pietermaritzburg.

He said while the ANC had done well, matters like job creation and improved service delivery needed urgent attention.

The ANC also had a plan to deal with poverty.

"If you ask me what legacy will be left by Jacob Zuma, I will tell you that it is the National Development Plan and the multi-billion [rand] infrastructure project."

Unbelievable. Reality is stranger than fiction. - 2013-01-10 23:10

If I ever heard about brown nosing...then this must be it. Zuma is absolutely useless and now, somebody that I actually admired, reckons he is an action man. I would rather eat humble pie, but I could not keep these words to myself. Zuma has done zip. Thabo has done more in 2months that this guys did in 4years for the COUNTRY.

      lownabester - 2013-01-10 23:10

Cyril, I thought you had some brains, But anyone talking rubbish like you!! "Action man" will be your downfall.

      charlesbronson.bronson - 2013-01-10 23:53

Ramaphosa, you should become a clown. You are very funny you know? The only thing action man can do is STEAL!! Steal the tax money of the poor. Jacob Zuma legacy: 1. The most corrupted leader of SA history 2. The man that steals the most money from the tax payer with out any jail sentence. 3. The many that can was off HIV with one shower. 4. Sleep with his friends daughter 5. and many more...

      charlesbronson.bronson - 2013-01-11 00:01

Cyril Ramaphosa, it won't take long and we will loose respect for you too!! Keep it going with your bill talks!!

      motho.batho.98 - 2013-01-11 00:44

I think that Ramaphosa has pulled wool over your face. He has been with the ANC through thick and thin; therefore, I don't see any chnages coming from him.

      John - 2013-01-11 00:58

Last action hero?!? He is back?!? Goddamit!!!!, yes he is!!!

      John - 2013-01-11 01:00

      walter.o.latham - 2013-01-11 05:39

This is surely an attempt at "damage control" and to try to win back support from disillusioned voters. The latter just has to remember Zuma's performance over the past 4 years and ask themselves, "What is going to change?" The only change we need is in Government - VOTE DA! Ramaphosa will not stop the rot.

      hein.huyser - 2013-01-11 06:14

Cyril, you never had it Sir, you were given shares and through BEE you became a billionaire, if only you created one job with all of your money. Go create a job yourself. That way you will understand how stupid these so called action plans are. Typical Gov. lackey, this Sugarman. Pipedreams I tell you. Already lost all respect for him

      andre.vandeventer.16 - 2013-01-11 07:06

He can't be serious about Zuma's capabilities. Just proves to what depths Ramaposa will sink by lying in order to stay in Zuma's good books and to earn himself a position to become the next president and to get on the gravy train!

      kortbroek.duplessis - 2013-01-11 07:26

Cyril Ramaphosa's first statement since his election, and it smacks of denial. Not a great start. Let's hope the next couple of years will be better. I am probably hoping for too much

      bangizwe.abeb.9 - 2013-01-11 08:04

So this is all ANC could come up with as their new batch of empty promises for next round of elections? please... lets sum up: - action man? rather destruction man - will move ZA forward? Maybe first learn how to love a dog, before you try love ZA because the kind of love you've been handing out doesn't cut it! - ANC has done well? Please man were falling off the cliff! - Poverty plan? I guess there is as much of a poverty plan as there is detail to it in this report! - Zooomer a legacy? sure, Hitler, Stalin, Mugabe all have great legacies!!

  • lacrimose.wolf - 2013-01-10 23:16

Took JZ TEN days to get from Mozambique to ZA for the Marikana crisis. He gets action alright - tarred roads to Nkandla whilst most existing roads fall apart and many dirt roads still waiting. Solar-powered toilets for Nkandla whilst many schools have none or two per 1000 students. eTolls will go ahead even though 90% of the money will leave the country - and straight into overseas consortia liberally sprinkled by asstd ANC members. Liver transplants for incurable alcoholic cadres whilst citizens are on a 25 year waiting list. Telecomms controls that 18 years later still strangle our economy and productivity (Mongolia outranks us FFS), people with gangrene, dead babies, dead road users, poisoned water, unemployment. Yep that's action alright. Tell us Cyril, if JZ's own Cabinet and parliamentarians have systematically and consistently ignored everything JZ decreed, danced about and cried "it cannot be", how do you possibly hope to stand a chance? Cadres don't even respect their own CIC. The leader they will allegedly die for but apparently do nothing apart from vote for him.

  • sifiso.sienga - 2013-01-10 23:19

Action man who Zuma ha ha ha ha ha ha ha action man indeed, when it comes to women that's true He do his part but for leading the country ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

  • david.khasebe - 2013-01-10 23:21

Yeah right. I suppose Cyril is trying to spur Zuma into action after sleeping on the job for the past four years. Problem with Zuma is he thinks he can rule like Mandela - an older statesman who does not have to get hands dirty. Problem with that thinking is no thinking at all

      lacrimose.wolf - 2013-01-10 23:42

The whole country, so many pyromaniacs, road-blockers, traffic light thieves and a gazillion others have tried to galvanize JZ et cie into action. Yep, pretty much the entire nation has taken them to court - sometimes 3x - in the last 2 years alone. JZ has re-shuffled his cabinet 3x in the last 4 years. Even he can't make up his mind - or get anyone he hires to do the job they were hired to do. Gwede was stuck with all the k*k jobs whilst JZ was "unavailable" and even then his powers were severely limited (e.g. was not allowed to get involved in Marikana whilst JZ was in Moz). Sorry for you Cyril, if they don't listen to the CIC, the Leader of the ANC, what makes you think they'll listen to you?

  • rontheogre - 2013-01-10 23:49

Cyril, if your statement of Zuma is based on his past performance, and you apply the same thinking to apartheid, cancer, tooth ache, Hitler or HIV, then all these negative things should have been good for us. Clearly your business success was not based on logic, but pure brown nosing, dodgey business practices, BEE and AA.

Well JZ wasn't successful so far. What I see today and what I saw 4 years ago is shocking. In the street I see 200 times more black people looking for piece work than what I saw 4 years ago. And the people don't want them cause they are scared of getting robbed or murdered. What worries me the most is the it is not being seen by his supporters and the dumb bugger still vote for him. Now Cyril is also getting me worried. SA wake up

  • StevenThomasHerselman - 2013-01-11 00:27

"I will tell you that it is the National Development Plan and the multi-billion [rand] infrastructure project." I cant wait to see the plan :-{ I believe the multi-billion Rand infrastructure project has already begun. Zoom zoom land Nkandlagate. Charity clearly does start at home for president Zuma. Only action I see is a delayed one.

  • charl.roux.16 - 2013-01-11 00:31

I really hope Cyril has more of the Mandela mind set which I like to believe he does. He knows how to make money work and doesnt need to fill his own pockets... Could he be a beacon of light in the mess that is the ANC??? Suppose only time will tell.

CR has an internal smile when he says this. I know that face. I sat behind him on a plane in 1995. There is a fine line between duplicity, two-facedness and making fun of the man Zuma. Zuma cannot be offended on face value. CR is a brilliant strategist. He is positioning himself to be Pres when Zuma goes down. By praising Z u keeps on side Z supporters. He is not talking about Z being action man, he is talking about himself. He realises that someone has to step in urgently to get SA back on 1st world track again. One thing for sure is CR is no fool, not like Z. I think CR is a builder not a destroyer.

Yawn; I've heard these words before. For the last 18 years. Doncha luv it when the ANC says they have a plan? They confuse plans with policies. This also explains why they don't understand why cadre deployment is a counter productive - the minister is supposed to have the policy and the DG and staff must come up with a plan to implement that policy - this can only be done if there is a professional corps in the Public Service. It will never happen when these guys are political appointees. So, you can have as many "plans" as you like, they just won't be put into practice. Perhaps Ramaphosa should watch the movie Groundhog Day.

  • peter.mokoena.31 - 2013-01-11 04:27
