Johannesburg -  The SA Communist Party has welcomed the news of pilot sites for the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme but warned against possible "tender hijackers".

"...The NHI is a heavily contested matter and those with different class interests will seek to hijack it... [and turn it] into a possible tender harvesting terrain," party spokesperson Malesela Maleka said in a statement on Sunday.

"We hope government will remain vigilant [and] not be side-tracked."

On Thursday Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced several pilot sites for the scheme.

These included Pretoria, the OR Tambo in the Eastern Cape, Vhembe in Limpopo, Pixley ka Seme in the Northern Cape, Eden in the Western Cape, Dr K Kaunda in the North West and Thabo Mofutsanyane in the Free State.

This was the first phase of a 14-year roll out plan of the NHI.

Government has already proven over and over again that it is corrupt to the core in terms of tender "hope" that this will not be the case with the NHI is wishful thinking and plain idiotic.

Where I am its a disaster, I hope it is well planned and some concideretions are made.... I hope they did not think inside the box only... Where I am I made appointment in October and still waiting and I just receive letters asking if am I still willing to see the doctor. SA is still developing why rush for bigger thing. NHI its not a baby play. If they can open more job opportunities that will be a good thing. I do not trust anyone all are corrupt.

The NHI is only being introduced, because it's another opportunity for Zuma and his cronies to milk the system. Appoint more of his relatives in high paying jobs with massive bonuses and perks to the detriment of the tax Payers .

This is going to make the Arms Deal corruption look like childs play.

  • Bertus - 2012-03-26 06:56

I will concider that no tender rigging will take place, as soon as I walked my unicorn this morning. SACP, have you been sleeping the past few years? Where has the corrupt's sticky fingers not yet been in? CAT scans bought for over inflated prices for hospitals are already signs of the corruption out there! And when caught, the accused just get re-deployed.

As sure as the sun will rise and set tomorrow,as sure are we that the NHI will be tender paradise.Billions will used to improve the lives of the crooked anc bosses. The NHI will make the Arms deal seem like theft of petty cash.

Its strange how the pilot projects can be rolled out when no upgrading of infrastructure has taken place, no extra doctors have been employed and their is no plan to extend current facilities. How much more proof do the tax and rate payers need to make them understand that the NHI is nothing more than a government plot to charge a fees for the same lack of service delivery that has always existed. Anyone who believes that their will be any change to facilities staff or standards under the governments fraud campaign refereed to as NHI seriously needs to get back on their meds.
