Sack Shabangu over Amcu ignorance: CDP

Johannesburg - The Christian Democratic Party has called for the sacking of Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu for not knowing about the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu).

Shabangu's claim that she did not know of Amcu's existence was inexcusable, CDP spokesperson Richard Botha said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Either Shabangu lied to Parliament or she is totally ignorant of what is going on in her portfolio," he said.

In a debate in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Shabangu told MPs that she had only been made aware of the existence of Amcu after the Lonmin mine shootings in Marikana.

Police opened fire on a group of protesting workers gathered on a hill near the mine on Thursday, killing 34 of them and wounding 78. Another 260 were arrested on charges of public violence and remain in custody.

In the week leading up to the shooting, 10 people - including two police officers and two security guards - were killed.

The protests were believed to be linked to rivalry between the National Union of Mineworkers and Amcu over recognition agreements at the mine. Workers also wanted higher wages.

Botha said ministers should be held accountable.

"Along with the Limpopo textbook saga, the country must hold accountable those ministers who knew about problems, but did nothing."

Have to agree - it's scandalous if she didn't know about them and scandalous if she did and lied to parliament. Besides that, she is selling our country's resources off to the highest bidder at an alarming rate. Damn the environment, damn the consequences. She's about to approve fracking - the Karoo is about to become more of a wasteland than it already is. But hey, those oil guys throw great parties! Phansi cANCer, phansi!!!

Shabangu is just a bitter woman, who has been power hungry for revenge, and has never not ones spoke sense, doesn't help that she stands in front of Parliament read a speech someone wrote for her that she chose not dispute, got her into trouble more than once...Shabangu should be fired, she is one lost soul with no respect for other people, she displays actions not to be desired and it seems the President thinks she is one of the best tomatoes but not, she's one of the rotten ones on the side, that doesn't show until you pick it up and plan to use

Who the hell is CDP? Where they come from? Elections must be close, all these parties suddenly appearing....

Vivian, a case of "shabangu-ism" here? (ignorance as to what's happening around you)

Amazing how these political parties see an opportunity. Where were they when the people started to strike and killed 10 people? Now all of a sudden they got something to say.

Send her packing. They are employed cadres that knows nothing of what a ministers' position entails. Payback is finish now. Time for real leaders to be voted in, not appointed
