Sisulu denies abusing SANDF jets

2012-11-10 14:39

Johannesburg - Former defence minister Lindiwe Sisulu on Saturday denied reports that she had abused the SANDF's ultra-luxury Gulfstream jets.

"Official records in the ministry reflects that minister Sisulu undertook 35 official trips with South African Air Force hired planes between 2009 and 2012," said Sisulu's spokesperson, Ndivhuwo Mabaya.

"Many of the trips were to and from international destinations or when the South African Air Force Falcon 50 allocated for use to the minister was not available."

Mabaya was responding to a parliamentary submission made by current Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

She told MP's that Sisulu had taken 203 flights with the jets.

Mabaya dismissed the information as false and misleading.

He said Sisulu had always used South African Airways flights for ANC, private and other constituency duties.

"The minister has written to Mapisa-Nqakula, requesting that the parliamentary reply be withdrawn and be corrected as the information submitted misled parliament and the nation," said Mabaya.

Sisulu served as the minister of defence and military from 2009 until 2012. She is currently the minister of public administration.

is there any bad blood btwn Nqakula and Sisulu?

  • morne.demeillon - 2012-11-10 15:12

What i do not understand is how can you be a minister of SANDF and then become a minister of Public Administration? This has happened numerous times in various sectors of the government, across the board. Shouldn't someone qualified in that particular kind of field be doing that particular type of job? Can someone please explain this to me?

      nicky.saaiman.1 - 2012-11-10 15:43

Are you in gr 1 child?????

      morne.demeillon - 2012-11-10 16:02

@Jaarling ,as jy my nie n bevoegde antwoord kan gee nie, bly dan maar liewerste still. En verander jou naam na slegte jaarling toe, dis pas jou beter- jou idiot!!!!

      goeie.jaarling - 2012-11-10 16:17

      terrylee.heuer - 2012-11-10 16:48

Its called cadre deployment!! They will always be moved from one dept to the next irrespective of qualification even if someone is suspended for a while that person will get a position sooner or later it boggles the mind I know ISO!!

      morne.demeillon - 2012-11-10 16:58

      gerrit.vanpletzen - 2012-11-10 22:13

What do you mean by qualified? None of these people are qualified for the jobs they do,except Ms. Marcus, maybe. Ministers are not chosen because of their qualifications, but only on their ties with the ruling elite. Should they start appointing people who are qualified, maybe something good will happen in SA. However, how do you do it when the president himself is not qualified for anything?

  • mzwandile.dlamanzi - 2012-11-10 15:49

I dont see any where in this story where i can figure out the headline.

  • doreen.nokwanda - 2012-11-10 16:00

Well even if she did,Lindiwe had the best at heart for the defence.members were happy about the way she handled things, she understands soldiers way better than any other minister who has been leading soldiers because she is a veteran.

      thembinkosi.jozie - 2012-11-10 16:13

All members were happy that's why they marched to union buildings

      tshepoya.bamagoro - 2012-11-10 16:15

Then why was she moved to the public works department. this shows some hidden agendas that the president would sorely obliged to cover up. Besides xe had over a hundreds of defence force member suspended and you call that having the soldiers interest at heart?

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-10 17:45

@doreen.nokwanda Yes, she served with distinction in camp Quattro....

  • tiaan.vanderberg.75 - 2012-11-10 22:07

I dont think there is any problem with moving ministers between various portfolios. They are ministers and therefore only political appointments. The problem in SA is that the director generals and the people under them, who should be beaurocrats are also political appointments. They are the people who should uphold the beaurocracy but due to their incompetence they cant. Jaarling, you are indeed correct! Lindiwe Sisule is a great example of the quality of leadership we have inherited. The way she managed the SANDF is evidence of her great qualities. In any other country she would most probably be running the tuck shop at the local nursery school. She is a disgrace!

  • tiaan.vanderberg.75 - 2012-11-10 22:25

Ayanda, managing a few people with aids and one tank and three guns cant be that difficult? The SANDF is a disgrace. Ill disciplined striking thugs whos only purpose is to employ ANC voters. They wont be able to defend the RSA if Zimbabwe attacked us. ( Rememer how Lesotho humiliated us) You might be impressed with her leadership skills but I can assure you that she cant organize a piss up in a distillery never mind an army, but on the other hand compared to the other cumrades, I understand why you are so impressed!

Awu madoda, what's new? Everyone in the governance is capable of misusing the public funds. She's gave us bonuses every December (hihihi) just to say thank for not toytoying against me while in Defense Portfolio (hihihi). LNN

  • clive.kihn - 2012-11-11 11:29

Do senior ANC politicians have to do a course in "denial" before moving further up the ladder? This would include the use of terms like "I was misquoted", "my comment was taken out of context", and "it is a conspiracy by the white-owned media". A real LDC (mis-)administration: lie, deny, cover-up.

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-11 13:05

Here is another one with the middle name DENY. She fits in well with the rest of the incompetent money grabbers. Certainly do not walk in the footsteps of her father. Snotty woman.
