Sisulu ordered to withdraw 'native for hire' remark

2014-06-19 21:29

Cape Town - Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu was forced on Thursday to withdraw her remark to a joint sitting of Parliament calling DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane a native for hire.

Sisulu duly retracted the remark after National Council of Provinces chairperson Thandi Modise said there was nothing unparliamentary about the term native, but found that the context in which the minister used it was offensive.

"If you, however, put these words together in one sentence... as the minister put it, it is offensive and may allude to the stereotype that natives are always for hire," Modise said.

After Maimane's maiden speech in Parliament in the debate on President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation address, she said he had had his dream of becoming premier of Gauteng shattered since the ANC won that province.

In the offending remark, she then went on to suggest that he had now been hand-picked by DA leader Helen Zille to do her bidding "now that madam has found another hired native to play second fiddle".

  • Lukas Ekisjouvaader - 2014-06-19 21:33

Speaking about hiring Lindiwe Sisulu, what are you doing next halloween?

      Tshivhenga Ndou - 2014-06-19 21:39

Mmusi Maimane has a intelligence, which when measured will surpass that of the ANC as a collective. If he was president he would do a far much better job. He very nearly snatched Gauteng from the ANC, and they are still bitter about it!!

      Karl Kat - 2014-06-19 21:49

The flea infested Sisulu love to insult the opposition and maybe it is because of her inferior complex. You should have seen her face when one of the DA speakers made the comment that they fired the wrong Sisulu (previous speaker)

      Andrew Terr - 2014-06-19 21:51

Talking of native. What is it with all the weaves? Why not stay with the nappy haired look.

      NickvanGraan - 2014-06-19 21:53

Parliament has been a real circus these last few days ...these are supposed to be our leaders. What an embarrassment!

      john.fourie.18 - 2014-06-19 22:03

Racism is all the ANC have left. This os old school thinking

      adinparadise - 2014-06-19 22:03

She should just get on her broomstick and fly away. What a pathetic creature.

      Lolo James - 2014-06-19 22:08

At least the President is not featuring in all this stupid circus. I don't remember him being called to order for being disrespectful.

      Jacques Otto - 2014-06-19 22:12

What annoyes me is this constant claim of being native based on being black. My family arived here in 1659. Most likely Sisulu's family came after mine but she will consider her self Native. Now tell me what is native on Mauritius. What is Native anywhere in the world. People accept that we come from one monther which came from Africa. So does that mean we all native of the world or are we all not Native since borders was created in Africa by non natives. I mean what a stupid waste of time such arguments and statements are. Hey Sisulu you might be native but you are useless. Perhaps you accept you are not native....fact remains you are still useles

      Kagiso Booi - 2014-06-20 03:51

We rejected the "hired native" in GP. At least madame offered him a job and the least he can do is to do as the madame says. Mmusi have made history, he is the first native to lose the premier elections and be appointed leader of the opposition in parliament.

      Deeked De Dose - 2014-06-20 08:33

Ah Kagiso Booi, there you are ... we missed your inane moronic comments... Thought you had locked yourself in the taxi again...

      Linds Ron-House - 2014-06-20 09:05

@Tshivenga, I beg to differ. Unfortunately in SA there is still that slave mentality. People who are articulate and fluent in English are just assumed to be intelligent. Dr Ramphele once said the port was cooked for such a long time that it started to cook itself.

      Linds Ron-House - 2014-06-20 09:13

How many of you know that Lindiwe Sisulu's paternal grandfather was a white man?

  • Ndabenhle Ngubane - 2014-06-19 21:36

How I wish the heading was, "Zuma ordered to withdraw his presidency."

  • Red Forman - 2014-06-19 21:36

This women takes the cake..she should be fired!

      Terrylin Backpackers - 2014-06-19 21:49

This woman speaks without thinking. An empty vessel makes the most noise.

      Sandra Rennie - 2014-06-19 21:58

She would say 'native' because she's half white with that skin colour. Was ma Sisulu not so faithful ?

  • themba.nsele.71 - 2014-06-19 21:38

And she wedrew the remarks, grate. Shall weave on then.

      Deeked De Dose - 2014-06-20 08:34

Spelling test for Themba 2/10... What are you saying?

      Moshe Maphoru - 2014-06-20 14:23

@ Themba, you are the product of poor quality education. 32% pass introduced by Angie, you can't even write.

  • Omnivore - 2014-06-19 21:40

Hey! That's a photo of Michael Jackson.

  • Gert Steenkamp - 2014-06-19 21:42

RACIST!!!!!!!!!Uncalled for remark. What is she then, hired by Zuma.

  • NoAbsolutes - 2014-06-19 21:44

The unlikeable Ms Sisulu. She wasn't "alluding to the stereotype that natives are always for hire"; she was making the very racist insult that Mr Maimane had sold himself as the token black to a white "madam" Zille.

  • BrandonFaber - 2014-06-19 21:45

Large scale idiocy on display. And THESE are the people running the show. Politicians should be subjected to psychometric tests, just like companies do.

  • MJS1234 - 2014-06-19 21:45

Please, somebody, anybody buy her a hair brush

      Lukas Ekisjouvaader - 2014-06-19 21:50

You don't want to take on that animal on her head with a hairbrush, you want some serious firepower.

  • Tshivhenga Ndou - 2014-06-19 21:45

Lindiwe Sisulu got the cabinet post because of her father. Maimane was given the post on merit. So Lindiwe is no match to Mmusi and she knows it.

  • BLUESILVER2012 - 2014-06-19 21:47

So 'native' has replaced the 'K' word going by the Ministers derogatory statement. Whoever thought the ANC has racist Ministers in parliament. Looks like this new ANC is finally starting to show it's true colours.

  • Kevin Marsh - 2014-06-19 21:48

This women needs help .inside her head is not well and that mop on her head is alive.

  • Thabani Mpulo - 2014-06-19 21:48

That is what she meant, undermining het own trying to make populous statement. The parl suppose to discuss issues but people like her they make the parl a circus, disgusting taking people's vote for granted

  • Joao Duarte - 2014-06-19 21:49

why is she even allowed in politics, clearly hasn't inherited the smart gene. Is this what the ANC has been reduced to, cheap insults, she should be fired if this is all she can contribute

      Sonwabo Soso Ntshata - 2014-06-19 21:53

Since when did you that his father was smart?

  • Lolo James - 2014-06-19 21:51

Well done Ms Sisulu. You don't need to hide behind drama like disrespectful Juju because you are a woman of substance

      Andile Sityebi - 2014-06-19 22:11

      Yhoooo look uyaxoka (lying)

      Niel Liebenberg - 2014-06-20 06:19

@Lolo, "a woman of substance"??? - She was and still is one of the most under performing ministers in cabinet and everyone knows that she is only in cabinet due to her alliance with Zuma. Unfortunately, she is only good at uttering offensive remarks. As for doing her job as a minister...she is an utter disgrace!!

  • Venicia Williams - 2014-06-19 21:55

The racists ANC will always see Mmusi as a threat...Lindiwe has to look in the mirror first before making any kind of statements!

  • Patty Gaby - 2014-06-19 21:56

  • Sterling Ferguson - 2014-06-19 21:56

@Sisulu, is demonizing this black man for thinking different from her and this lady isn't a democractic.

  • Siphiwe Mhlanga - 2014-06-19 22:04

Sisulu has been in parliament for much longer than Juju n Maimane, yet she too,is still using terms that are disrespectful! Shows exactly tht its nt just an issue of inducting new parliamentarians to behave, its the language used in parliament that is utterly disrespectful. Afterall Malema is a product of the ruling party! Thts where he learnt the lingo,n nw tht he is using it against ANC its now termed as disrespectful!!

  • Will Dundas - 2014-06-19 22:06

And you are not even worth hiring....plonker!!!

  • Maleke Ramaditse - 2014-06-19 22:06

Lindiwe Sisule herself was recycled more than twice but still she failed make a positive contribution to any of the departments she led, what a waste of money and resources

  • Tsietsi Bhakajuju Mshengu - 2014-06-19 22:08

In view of Lindiwe Sisulu's statement, am I "in order" then to think that Marthinus van Skalkwyk was a hired Boertjie? The difference is that he was hired by the ANC. Maybe Derek Hanekom as well, to name but a few. I can't resist mentioning Mulder, the former deputy minister.

  • anele.mveku - 2014-06-19 22:11

These politicians be behaving like 15 year old girls. Gees I wouldn't survive in parliament. The name calling is LOW.

      Michael Kleber - 2014-06-20 07:54

I agree anele , very immature politicking and debating , to think they get paid for this !

  • Dan Danukdhari - 2014-06-19 22:11

So this is what Miss Cabbage Sisulu thinks of black, they can only get jobs based on nepotism and allegiaence to corrupt leader, she really is the most smelly cabbage

  • Chol Mabeo - 2014-06-19 22:12

Maimane is a real charmer, two women (Lindiwe and Stella) on the same day pouring out their innermost feelings to him.

  • JeanClaude Vandamme - 2014-06-19 22:14

why is telling the truth a problem?

      Jimmy Don - 2014-06-20 14:00

Because its not the truth , there think about that.

  • ryan.holland.395454 - 2014-06-19 22:15

It's a telling remark. The idea of blacks and whites working together is obviously a foreign concept to these ANC racists.

  • Basil Jacobs - 2014-06-19 22:17

And to think that the outside world is watching this circus called Parliament 2014 and having their ideas reinforced of pulling their investments or not investing in this Banana Republic. The ANC has carefully nurtured this unsatisfactory state of affairs over the past 20 years of "Democracy". If you let the kids run wild, this will be the fruits of your own making - and don't blame Apartheid!

  • henk.tredoux.7 - 2014-06-19 22:18

Stupid little girl! Get some class you ignorant tramp!

  • Chol Mabeo - 2014-06-19 22:24

Maimane is a real charmer, two women - Lindiwe and Stella - pouring out their hearts to him on a single day. Women always gravitate towards that which they feel they can handle, believe me.

  • Bryan Culross - 2014-06-19 22:29

What a trashy woman, in my opinion. No class whatsoever.

  • Robert Burroughs - 2014-06-19 22:33

I'm glad, no, exceptionally happy that she got her butt kicked by one of her own(ANC) She looks, to me, like somebody that's used to getting her way with no questions asked.

  • Bettie Nieuwoudt - 2014-06-19 22:34

I am shocked. And I always thought that she is a person with integrity. Shame on you honorable Minister! I list my respect, not that you need it - because I am white! I cannot believe that an educated, high profile person of her caliber can utter words like that. One would expect it from Malema. How can the ANC proud themselves of not being a racist party! I am sooooo disappointed!

      Egler Bare - 2014-06-19 22:38

And you are calling her Honourable Minister. Whats so honourable about a person who utters such rubbish.

  • George Raphuthi - 2014-06-19 22:42

yes the minister was out of line but at least she had the audecity to withdraw her statement, she didn't back chat to the chair unlike others course it takes guts to accept that you are wrong

  • Kabelo George - 2014-06-19 22:56

The minister talk about the anc wining gauteng n mr maimane becaming hand picked. Wen malema talk about the anc they chase him

  • Bernd Kankowski - 2014-06-19 23:00

The circus is back in town and the clowns are the star performers once again. Sisulu has not made a success of any department she has been appointed. She is redeployed every time she has messed up to another department. It is how long after the elections and these so called appointees are still bickering about native for hire and racist remarks instead of getting off their Kfc filled backsides and do some constructive work for a change. She stands there and accuses the DA of wasting money in the Western Cape saying it could have been used constructively. Sisulu, take off those blinkers and see what is going on under your noses. Nkandla millions, the so called dairy farm in the Free State at R570 million, the inflated millions you and your friends are overpaying suppliers with all the tender frauds, all the inflated rental agreements and you have the audacity to stand in parliament and say the ANC has a good story to tell. You live in a dream world. You are a bunch of hypocrite's, self centred and in it for yourselves. Free flights, expensive hotels, expensive cars, oversized government etc etc. Stop playing the race card. You just keep reminding everyone that you are stuck in the past and that you have nothing constructive to say. ANC = Another National Circus

      Andrew Salies - 2014-06-19 23:17

Bernd I realy like ur comment. Wise man words

  • Erna Westdyk - 2014-06-19 23:39

She should also be ordered to withdraw/apologise for her remarks re bribery by CT. Everyone seems to think that as long as you call everyone "honourable so and so" you can say what you want. There is nothing honourable about most of the MPs!

  • Alton Small - 2014-06-19 23:46

Know that's what I called a educated statement Bernd yiu know what is right I this country, just a pitty there are millions less that think like you do otherwise this country could be the most beautiful tourist attraction crime free and corruption free country in the world

  • Mamsie Tsoene - 2014-06-20 03:34

It takes a racist to see one. Get over yourselves the minister apologised, ur just being nasty, so is it ok for you to attack a black woman's looks? Nxa, grow up

  • Samuel Modumaela - 2014-06-20 05:32

This woman shud not be in Parliament, she is so full of herself and arrogant. The other day she was talking about struggle heroes in parliament and she ended with" and of cause my father" who is her father. She should have mentioned her father's name. Sis man you bring shame to Sisulu's surname, by the way in natives culture wen you get married you changed your surname to your husband's. Y the hell is she still Sisulu?

      bradchad.jensen - 2014-06-20 06:18

      Natives culture?

  • Christelle Fisher - 2014-06-20 05:45

Whites are always depicted as 'racist', but when they work with other races, then suddenly it's back to the 'madam baas' story.

  • Valerie van der Nest - 2014-06-20 06:18

Ugly ugly little comments so unnecessary for educated people..

  • Donovan Dunn - 2014-06-20 06:34

  • Neil Alberts - 2014-06-20 06:46

Funny u being hired by anc?? What u call yourself? Definitely not madam cause they have class and status! You, well nit even naitive will be suitable for you !

  • Winifred Watson - 2014-06-20 07:04

This arrogant flea infested queen has a vile mouth and that is about all of her capabilities, nothing more, she is only in parliament because of the Sisulu name not for what she
