Take care of the poor - Zuma

2012-06-26 18:43

Johannesburg - A ruling party must be worried about unemployment, poverty and inequalities, ANC president Jacob Zuma said on Tuesday.

"We are saying the ruling party has a policy conference and must discuss these issues, and if we don't we will be failing the poor. We cannot do that."

Zuma was explaining the ANC draft policy document on the "second transition" at the ANC's four-day policy conference in Midrand.

He said with the document the ANC realised the country was faced with problems and the policy conference had to provide solutions.

Turning to crime, he said: "Killing a person in South Africa has become a simple thing. Our crime is violent; something is wrong with our society."

The party's elective conference, to be held in Mangaung in December, will adopt resolutions from this policy conference for implementation.

He has a lot to say all of a sudden.

      Squeegee - 2012-06-26 19:00

Great. Please do something about the poor, but stop thinking you are Robin Hood.

      Irene - 2012-06-26 19:07

Give the money you and your thieving chums have stolen to the poor. You know, the money that was originally intended for them before you got your fat fingers onto it.

      Nicolaas - 2012-06-26 19:13

Irene, I agree, they the ruling party should take care of the poor with all the money he and his corrupt cronies has stolen. Not to mention the amount of tax payers money he has spend to upgrade his harem for the 6 fat wifes!

      Bulls - 2012-06-26 19:15

This one must just shut-up and think of career progression in the adult movies, I think that is where his strength is,Free career guidance anyone? He did nothing but dragged us backward and made our already belittled ego's to be dragged in the mud. HAMBA!

      jack.bleck - 2012-06-26 19:41

He knows he's gone. The whole country is sick of him. I hope he has lots to say when he gets his day in court on corruption charges. I want all his cronies to go down with him!!!

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-06-26 19:51

Why didn't the ANC take care for the past 18 years? Is he talking to himself? - 2012-06-26 20:02

yes the reason he has alot to say is because nobody wants the bastard anymore and election is coming up. its just another tactic to stay in power, empty promises

  • Lacrimose - 2012-06-26 18:55

Must be, should be, could be. More feek and weeble speeches yet again with no clear indication as to what is going to be DONE. Vote now, we'll solve the problems later is the best 'plan' they've come up with in the last year. We have more poor and more unemployed than in any time before'94 (admitted on SAfm by ANC themselves this morning). The poor and unemployed can't eat policy documents.

  • keith.recore - 2012-06-26 18:55

"Ruling party" vs "governing party". Does the president and party intend to "rule" or is there a will to "govern"? Rulers have subjects. Governments have electorates. South Africa?

      colin.dovey - 2012-06-26 20:48

For me - rule = rile us - NO Politician RULES - they GOVERN on behalf of the people who they SERVE.

  • hans.himmler.7 - 2012-06-26 19:01

Wasn't this on the agenda in 1994?

      Irene - 2012-06-26 19:08

In 1912 as well ... hee hee hee

      Lacrimose - 2012-06-26 19:14

It is agreed the world over that ZA has some of the finest policies in almost every arena of governance. It is also agreed the world over that the epic and constant fail is the ability to implement.

  • oistar.tutu - 2012-06-26 19:04

Why are you only realising it now, you dof 'president'. You had the resources to look after them in the last 18 plus years. You have f-upped, South Africa and now you want us to work together so that you can leech more off the system. You may be president ... but you are slimey.

  • Tiyani - 2012-06-26 19:04

Lol Zuma is so funny #DeadForAnother18years wow!

  • JAJAJA - 2012-06-26 19:05

  • mc.tyandre - 2012-06-26 19:07

Mr President you have already failed. -. You vowed to create 500 million Jobs, those jobs never materialized. -. Worse still, poverty has increased -. Claiming you have invested $2Bill to the IMF, how much is your return of interest; i can bet that is your kick back. -. Realising criminals or should is say your friends from prison. -. Bowing to just about everybody. Please use your two brains. -. Your tribalism style of governance. You don't care about the poor of this country.

      theo.schoeman.71 - 2012-06-26 19:53

@Mc ... Thank you and Amen. Can there still be people so daft to believe this man and vote him back into power.

  • hans.himmler.7 - 2012-06-26 19:07

LoL........Siener van Rensburg predicted the rise and fall of ANC. Eesh.

      mc.tyandre - 2012-06-26 19:10

Dr Credo Mutwa predicted the rise and fall of the ANC, "power will go to the indians, then the Indians will hand it over to the whites" We have seen it with the power of the Guptas.

      melania.nel - 2012-06-26 19:17

      En wat was sy woorde?

      hans.himmler.7 - 2012-06-26 19:25

Mc, you know it is a sad story. Mandela had a vision, or so he lead us to believe, for a unifies South Africa. All that has happened is polarization, the ANC direct cause of this. They have stole tax payers money, lied to the poor, and also lied to the world - where is the money gone to that the nations gave freely? Siener has predicted a white government in the end, although it will probably be mixed. One thing is certain, the ANC cannot continue to be in control of SA. They are not only killing the whites, in cold blooded murder, but they are also taking food, housing, water etc. from ther poor blacks and whites. Melanie, I can quote it, not on hand, he has also predicted the violent murder of two prominent afrikaans leaders. ET must be one, not sure of the other. Also, he predicted the fall of the pension fund - SANRAl? I for one am tired of racial problems. We need a unbiased, wel oiled government to run this country and unite the people. The ANC is not capable of this, and actually they, as too are England, guilty of Genocide.

  • Patsy - 2012-06-26 19:16

Oh boy! Election time coming up..... When last did he take care of the poor, I'd like to know....

  • charnelle.bester - 2012-06-26 19:17

Hay, can anyone comment on the article about Zuma complaining about the economy being controlled by the whites?

  • Aaron - 2012-06-26 19:19

Why does he always have to prefix everything with "We are saying"? Why not just say it? It's a clever way to lie though, isn't it?

      grace.andtruth.77 - 2012-06-26 19:23

Hahaha Aaron.... I am saying 'you hit the nail on the head (of the spear)

  • Juan - 2012-06-26 19:23

Oh I am getting so sick & tired of hearing about the ANC rambling on about the poor. Just lip service, talk, talk and talk at nauseum, while in real life they feather their own pockets and take the poor for a p*/s!

  • andile.nokhetshe - 2012-06-26 19:24

This Zuma guy is gonna repeat that story until Jesus comes back. #Worried#

  • daniel.motlhatlhedi - 2012-06-26 19:24

  • hudayfah.newman - 2012-06-26 19:26

Hahahahaha!' Take care of the poor' Now that others turned against you, you turn to the poor. You have failed these people. The billions that went missing should've gone to them. Instead you are more worried about another term.

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-06-26 19:28

All the poor can give are votes, whats going to happen when there are no tax payers left here is he still going to butt creep the poor.Dont get me wrong i believe in upliftment but most poor people in the world are like that because of attitude and a lack of educational desire.

  • danny.levin.351 - 2012-06-26 19:28

Good one Zoomer, And I suppose you intend to achieve the goal of looking after the poor by splashing R400M on a party (ANC 100) then another R100M on another party (Youth league international stuff-up) and using two planes as "back-ups" when you fly overseas? Think again...

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-06-26 19:32

Aaron let them carry on even the poor are starting to see through the anc, they are getting caught up in their own crap we just need to be patient and watch them self destruct.

      grace.andtruth.77 - 2012-06-26 19:48

True Mike but sadly the majority (poor) don't have access to the media so they are unaware of all the corruption etc taking place. They still think Zooms lives humbly in a mud hut struggling to support his wives and 21 children because of apartheid. AND they are intimidated at election time. They have NO idea of their rights as citizens and the realization that ZOOMs and his party are employed by THEM! There is plenty educating to do still

  • simphiwelucas.chauke - 2012-06-26 19:32

the votes are coming suddenly Zuma knowns the poor people who put him on power, now he doesn't govern SA he dictate this country. Something is really wrong with Zumas head.

      hudayfah.newman - 2012-06-26 19:43

'Something is really\r\nwrong with Zumas head' you noticed it too? I thought I was alone. Its kinda abnormally long.

Government / Churches - talk about the poor while driving fancy cars and living in massive houses. the only people who help the poor are the poor!!!

  • hasane.william - 2012-06-26 19:51

Mr President firsly give them better education, it will be pointless if you think of the child support grant or free food parcels this two are the source of poverty since our fellow brothers and sister get relaxed and depend on our tax.

  • Craig Hopkins - 2012-06-26 19:51

So Mr Zuma, why don't you & your other political morons donate a minimum of 50% of your salary to the poor to show you mean business?

      Mavhungu Vincent - 2012-06-26 20:04

      Same as zille.

  • sizwe.bwana - 2012-06-26 19:55

  • sean.noble1 - 2012-06-26 19:56

Anc must not take years to implement polices. We discuss and approve polices two years down the line those polices have been forgotten. The constitution was amended long time ago for the expropriation of land. Not a singly form was been expropriated since then.

Being a tax payer, the rethoric about poor and the unemployed is getting to my nerves. 18 years into democrasy the language should shift a bit, can't they really talk about something other than they getting rich by lying. Enough toe!

  • Hermann - 2012-06-26 20:09

Worried about the poor the rich man. He should rather concentrate job creation and scrap affirmative action, BEE and labour equity then the re-employed whites and new employed whites will get the economy going and soon it will over-heat and we will have to import labour to handle the situation and from Zimbabwe we can get better qualified people than we have amongst our own. Thank you A(frican) N(ational) C(orruption).

You're a good one to talk, Zuma. Do as I say and not as I do, must be your motto. The same goes for all your members of government. Stinking rich, each and every one of them.

There are many issues that South africans are scared to talk about hoping they will just go away eg inequality, racism, xenophobia, exploitation of workers, nationalization of mines, poor service delivery, corruption, land redistribution, labour brokers etc\r\n\r\nDebate the issues with the people at the ground on you will know that South Africa is a time bomb

      charnelle.bester - 2012-06-26 21:06

So totally agree with you Flo and you know what, we shouldnt just stand and take it! We need to consider that we simply can not afford this government they are far to expensive and they really dont do much but make empty promises. Inequality, racism, xenophobia and exploitation of workers, corruption and land redistribution are very real issues that a growing economy must face but blaming it on the minority who only make up for 9% of the population is not going to solve anything.

  • chris.potgieter.73 - 2012-06-27 01:32

The Zuma ANC has also failed to grasp the truth about not being able to legislate the poor rich. Who will create the wealth when the all one has to do is sit back, claim to be poor, and wait for the rulers to take from others that which they have worked for and give it to those that will not work? Will the poor once again be swayed to cast a vote for a ruler who is a proven loser?

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-06-27 09:43

Yes, start by making all those cadres of your who have used the taxpayers money to enrich themselves to repay the money. Then take all these billions and use it to help the poor. Stop this big issue of the POOR OH THE POOR, you and your like dont give a fig for the poor they are only good for bargaining power anybody with any intelligence knows that. The poor will always be poor, sometimes, the poor dont want to help themselves and thats why they stay poor. You are using these people like pawns on a chesss board, when you have won their vote you will pack them back in the box. Your government can do a lot of good, but first stop them enriching themselves and flaunting it in the faces of the poor. Start uplifting the poor by giving them a better education, encouraging them to work for themselves to make a better life, stop giving them freebies, plainly you can see this is not working. Rather do a work for food programme, and you will see who wants to better themselves and who was just out for a freebie. My dometic worker gets a grant for her last child, guess what she does with it, gives it to him for pocket money every month. Zuma, you never cared for the poor and at this stage you never are going to, its just a ploy to get a vote but be very careful, you dont get bitten by all the hands that fuel your coffers every month. How's that going to help the poor then.
