Pretoria - The tripartite alliance's recent economic summit went "very well", President Jacob Zuma said on Tuesday.

Differences between the African National Congress, the Congress of SA Trade Unions, and the SA Communist Party around the National Development Plan were minimal, he said.

"The summit of the alliance… concluded very well, on all the issues, including the NDP," Zuma told editors at a breakfast briefing in Pretoria.

"We discussed matters frankly and very comradely. We are implementing it [the NDP] and that is agreed."

He said the NDP represented a vision for South Africa.

"In no way can you have a vision of a country where you can agree on every punctuation mark.

"What is important with the NDP is that you have a nation agreeing on a plan."

The tripartite alliance's three-day economic summit - the first since 2008 - ended on Sunday.

Cosatu and the SACP have been vocal in their criticism of the NDP which the ruling party wants to adopt as a key policy making document.
