Vavi: We might soon have President Zille

2011-04-06 10:17

Johannesburg - Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has warned that the opposition DA could take control of Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape, reports said on Wednesday.

"You may a find a very embarrassing situation: Nelson Mandela Bay under a Democratic Alliance leadership," Vavi said at a bargaining conference of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), according to quotes in the Business Day newspaper.

"If we are not careful, and if we allow people to take our movement in the direction they are taking, very soon we may have to call someone President [Helen] Zille - which will be an absolute nightmare," Vavi said, diverting from his speech prepared for delivery.

He said the ruling African National Congress was "infested with corruption and greed".

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe declined to respond to Vavi's statement.

"The reality of the matter is that we are campaigning. Anybody with time to do analysis and make predictions, good luck," Mantashe told Business Day.

Many a true word said in jest? Wake up ANC supporters and smell the corruption.

      otiose - 2011-04-06 10:39

No Vavi, it's Viva! VIVA PRESIDENT ZILLE VIVA!!! Vavi, your nightmare is every South African that want's clear and efficient government's dream!

      Bloodbane - 2011-04-06 10:54

@TheANCLegend - remeber the term guilty by acosiation. The ANC is guilty of corruption theft and other crimes, if you are with them you are just as guilty.

      Redwine - 2011-04-06 10:56

What a strange world we live in. PW use to warn about the "swart gevaar" Now I suppose it is the "wit gevaar" Either way my friend you keep some happy some of the time not all at the same time. However you piss more off than you make happy be warned the warning lights are flashing very brightly all over the world. Gadaffi, Sadam and Hosni all thought they will rule forever and look were they ended up!!! Hopefully in our case it will not be 40 years on I do not have that long to go.

      Blackdude - 2011-04-06 11:00

A lot of nervous laughter there from "TheANCLedgend"..... writing is on the wall my friend your days are numbered!! Even Vavi can see it.

      daaivark - 2011-04-06 11:07

@ the legend: Vavi has a very good point. Supporting an organisation simply because of its name is just ridiculous. Loyalty is meaningless in the grab-and-deny culture that has developed in govt. so why do the "rank and file" still vote through blind loyalty. Your leaders are robbing you blind, comrade. Use your eyes, and then try and kick-start the brain.

      ReThan - 2011-04-06 11:11

The more educated the ANC followers get, the more they will realise all this ANC corruption.

      frans - 2011-04-06 11:14

"You may a find a very embarrassing situation: Nelson Mandela Bay under a Democratic Alliance leadership," Yep, the western cape is very mbarrassed about no-potholes, running water, refuse removal, good governance of the province, etc. i am so ashamed...

      johnlocke - 2011-04-06 11:15

@TheANCLegend - you can laugh, you can cry, you can even play a fiddle - but the truth is SA is bleeding from all the corruption and misguided policies of the current government. It's clear that words like democracy and transparency are just NewSpeak to the ANC.

      Virginia - 2011-04-06 11:18

The ANClegend, its people like u who bring this country down, forget about Mrs Zille and think about the people who are still living in squaller in the townships, places that the current government promised to clean and provide quality of life for all, just think of the 800million that they have spent on a aircraft, they could have given every family in this country a million rand to start their lives, for some it might have been a waste but for the majority they would have quality of life for their families.

      Frungy - 2011-04-06 11:29

@ReThan - "The more educated the ANC followers get, the more they will realise all this ANC corruption." Yes, which is why education now is even worse than in poor areas (the majority of the county) than it was during apartheid. This isn't hyperbole, just compare the international studies showing the decline in S.A. students' performance in international tests between 1994 (the end of apartheid) and now (the 17th year of ANC rule, enough time to see the first post-apartheid graduates from higher education... if they got that far). Simply put uneducated people are easier to control. It's not that the ANC cannot deliver on education, it simply doesn't want to. - 2011-04-06 11:37

Hi The ANC Legend......Hey Chop Face .....there is is an Afrikaans saying that you wont understand but anyway ' VAN LEKKER LAG, KOM LEKKER HUIL'...... now go ask one of the whities in the office to explain......BIG Chop...

      Khazakh1 - 2011-04-06 11:41

@theanclegend... are you sitting in blueass's shack and on his laptop?

      Jo - 2011-04-06 11:57

If job creation, paid-up rates, accountable governance, service delivery, feedback, professionalism and the courage to stand up to bullies is a nightmare to Mr Vavi, then yeah, I guess. - 2011-04-06 12:07

It will be a BAD day in our history if this woman ever got power! ANC may be far from perfect but there is room for improvement (If malema is kicked out)

otiose - 2011-04-06 12:15 - Malema won't be kicked out, he isn't even being reprimanded! On the other hand, people in DA wards keeps receiving the best service delivery in the country, by far! Best hospitals, best schools, roads, etc. Why are you against them? - 2011-04-06 12:44

@otise Ofcourse he is been. It has been in the news. The Zillie will never be a good leader. Look at why she is supported by the comments her, for her skin colour! I will never support someone just because they are white, that is pathetic. Why are you against Zuma?

      Rustum X - 2011-04-06 13:02

@otiose You sound more like a celebrity fan than an intelligent person. Your average DA supporter already rips you to the bone while you don't see it. Interest rates and profit margins are determined by the corporate sector. They get away with with keeping the government in debt. The government sucks on you. You fight the government. I shudder at the prospect of bank owners having access to legislative power.

otiose - 2011-04-06 13:03 *sigh*... whhhyy oh why do you have to bring skin pigmentation into this? can't you just consider the facts? Look at Cape Town! Look at Baviaans! Look at Midvaal! You ask why i don't support Zuma? Please compare any ANC municipality to a DA one, then you will see why i don't.

      DarkAngel - 2011-04-06 13:04

ZUMA? Because if a 'president' sleep around with people with aids and then take a shower to wash away the 'germs' - that's one of the millions of reasons we dont like Zuma. ANC is VROT with corruption and steal from their own poor people! We want to vote for a party that can perform! If the ANC did what they promised (so many times, over and over and over....), yeah right, then I'll vote for them, but SORRY, they dont deliver, so no vote for them.

      otiose - 2011-04-06 13:07

@Rustum X HAHAHAHAAAAAA OH My word that's the craziest economics i've heard of in my life! You seem to have no clue what so ever as to even the vaguest concept of public economics, yet you try to pass me off as not "an intelligent person"??

      Meanleader - 2011-04-06 13:20

Vavi makes no sence .He thinks it is an embarressment to have an honest first class local council in Cape town . He also tells all his sheep how corrupt the ANC is , and expects them to vote for the ANC . The sad part is .... the sheep probably will vote ANC.... Mother's children !!!!!!! - 2011-04-06 13:30

I did not, I am using the comments on this article as a example why people vote for her. First thing when I ask why someone supports her (as I do surveys for ANC supporters) is "we want a white president" most do not care if she is good or not. Then they assume because I am White I should vote for her! Why? She is the most annoying person I have ever come across. She will never have the leader qualities needed.

      KaiinSA - 2011-04-06 13:36

Its a shame that COSATU dont jump ship to the DA and back the winning horse, Helen Zille will keep them in check if it happened then maybe things will start to turn around for the better for everyone.

otiose - 2011-04-06 13:39 People vote for her because she is white?? Yeah.Right. I have never, ever heard of a single DA supporter (white or blacks saying that (except for pro-anc trolls, and yourself). Your reasoning is flawed, and based on emotion, not facts. Hence, go forth and vote for whoever the crap you wan't :) And if your ANC wins, I hope you feel a little pang each time you see people walking from squatter huts through mud streets to non-existent jobs. - 2011-04-06 13:43

Guess ignorance is truly bliss. I am not denying she may have said good things. But the reason people even notice her is cause of her skin. For the record I am clearly not a racist ... as I support the black government. Exactly what has your Zille promised to do about the homeless? Do you honestly see NO good in Zuma? I am not talking about the idiots that are around him, but HIM?

gizzy - 2011-04-06 13:44, your argument falls flat once you bring race into it. You hate Zille because she is white. I hate Zuma because he is a lying, thieving, cheating scumbag that avoided his day in court! I hate the fact that I have to support his harem of women and children. I don't give a fig about his skin colour. Therein lies the difference. - 2011-04-06 13:48

@gizzy please go back and read my comments. I never said I hate her for one and secondly I did not say I hate her because she is white! Really! I AM WHITE. What I said was majority support her because she is white. Which is a known fact. Not something I am making up.

otiose - 2011-04-06 13:48 I think Gizzy sumed it up :) Add to that that his ANC (yes, he is president) is doing a pathetic job. As to Zille, i could care less what she says. Actually i could care less about her. What i care about, is her Party, and what it has done! You love Zuma so much, what did he do to deserve it?

      otiose - 2011-04-06 13:50

"What I said was majority support her because she is white. Which is a known fact. Not something I am making up." Give me even a sliver of proof (preferably not something cooked up by the ANCYL) - 2011-04-06 14:27

It is easy, just go out onto the streets and ask.

Linz-e - 2011-04-07 09:19 Your ignorance surpasses you my dear. The question was directed at YOU and not to those on the streets. What has Zuma done for YOU that you love him so much? I have not heard ONE positive thing from ANC supporters about what Zuma has done for them. All the ANC and their said Zuma has done is make promises, whereas the DA, and said Zille, has made promises and delivered on them. You posed a question about what Zille has promised the homeless. When has Zuma ever promised anything and delivered on it for the homeless? Draw rather intelligent well researched comparisons when comparing the DA to the ANC. I see results within the Western Cape, and therefore I will continue supporting the DA - even though I am NOT white, and do NOT support Zille for her skin colour - because I know that my family will have a better FUTURE (not considering the PAST but looking forward instead) if I do.

      SiphovdMerwe - 2011-04-07 11:45

I think is right to an extent. The majority of South Africans still vote along the racial lines. We hardly afford logic or reasoning an opportunity to present itself. Truth hurts. These are the same people who voted for the Nats for 48 years. Why didn't you do something??? Noooo, it was working for you wasn't it? Oh ye hypocrites, stop acting holier than thou!!! "Always remember, that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

      The Patriot - 2011-04-07 12:53

@MJ84, you speak such utter crap. You do surveys for the ANC says it all. Into BBC are you?

  • Ben - 2011-04-06 10:26

    Go baby go!

  • Dave - 2011-04-06 10:26

Vavi you chop, that won't be a nightmare it will be a blessing. you continue you bad mouth your alliance with the greedy and corrupt, yet you still want to vote for them? where is the sense there my friend? it's time for change, and the time is now.....

      henk - 2011-04-06 10:35

A nightmare nogal?? WTF are you stupid vavi?? Everyone will have abetter live in SA if Zille is president. (Ok exepr maybe the criminals and anc tjommies.)

      DarkAngel - 2011-04-06 13:07

Vavi was actually sarcastic........ a nightmare for the ANC that would be.

      bar-one - 2011-04-06 15:17

@ Eric West It's idiots like you , always using the derogatory language of a supremacist cult ,that leads to the distrust of bona fidae non racists like Zille. You are the type of supporter that does more harm than good with your racist insults and innuendo. You sir are no different to the racists in the anc

      SiphovdMerwe - 2011-04-07 11:55

@Dave, catch a wake up broer. He'll still vote for the ANC because there is no alternative, except the DA-ala-National-Party-Incarnate

      cathy eksteen - 2011-04-07 23:12

@Koos, you hate us whites but you use an afrikaner name. You're a true idiot who could only hate yourself. You don't know me but you hate me. Shame, self confessed idiot.

  • Psychotron - 2011-04-06 10:27

ANC is like Gaddaffi, they will fight to the death and destroy this country to stay in power. But at least I can shoot straight.

      GrimReaper10 - 2011-04-06 11:49

Also like Laurent Gbagbo in the Ivory Coast. All ANC friends

      hf44083 - 2011-04-06 12:10

What about their other idiot friend in Zim - no different either

  • Observer - 2011-04-06 10:27

"....very soon we may have to call someone President [Helen] Zille - which will be an absolute nightmare," - So the nightmare would be that it would be Zille, or the fact that she is a woman, or that she can do the job properly? Or...or? Boggles the mind, doesn't it? Ah yes, he's been misquoted, hasn't he?

      will294 - 2011-04-06 10:33

This is the level to which politics has descended in this country. It is all about race. The non-discerning voting fodder would rather have an inefficient and corrupt leadership - provided they are of the right hue

      Ottis Mann - 2011-04-06 11:32

Have you ever wondered why racism is still too rampant in Cape Town than anywhere else in SA what with your golden eyed girl Zille being the Premier of the province? Its a no brainer trying to figure out what race you are Observer!!! maybe you just ahave a color problem; you see everything in white

      Jo - 2011-04-06 11:50

I can't comment on how Observer sees things, but I also can't imagine why having delivery and sound accountable governance will be a 'nightmare'. And as for colour - I keep on saying it: if another 100 000 black South Africans join the DA, it will be a black party. The colour of the DA is strictly up to voters - you choose what colour you want it to be - the policies will remain sound.

      Observer - 2011-04-06 12:08

@ Ottis Mann - I'm thinking you were you thinking I was using "Zille" to indicate someone who is white? This wasn't the case. I was using "Zille" to refer to...well, Zille! Who knows, maybe Vavi doesn't like her because she doesn't dress the way he wants her to, or who knows what else, but surely it wouldn't be because she's white, right???? C'mon, aren't we past all that? And just why is it so important what race I am? When it comes to discussing important issues like this, is it not important that we as South Africans discuss it? Not as Blacks, Whites, Coloureds etc?

      Educated - 2011-04-06 13:25

Actually Ottis if you've ever been to cape town you would know that people are the friendliest there, the service is always excellent there, the streets are clean and I've never witnessed any type of racism over there as people are generally happier. I can't say the same about jhb or any other province in sa for that matter.

      ShabirS - 2011-04-06 15:47

@Uneducted, I have been to Cape Town too often for my liking. If I had a choice I would send someone else for my business trips. I imagine if myself as Indian get such a treatment, how are about the blacks.

  • Smindlo - 2011-04-06 10:28

Wher the f6ck is Ekurhuleni , and why do you ask ?

      Educated - 2011-04-06 13:28

I think you mean, 'Quiet' and not 'Quite' honey bunnykins.

      SiphovdMerwe - 2011-04-07 12:15

@Meanleader, you have the intelligence and ignorance of an average DA supporter. Which well informed South African still asks where Ekurhuleni is? Couldn't you at least mask your stupidity by Googling it first? Argghh, what the hell, Ekurhuleni is in the former Transvaal broer.

      Dan18 - 2011-04-07 15:24

Ekurhuleni is NOT the Transvaal. It's the name of the municipal district, NOT the name of the area. Get your facts straight.

  • jeremy - 2011-04-06 10:32

Vavi is quite right. The DA could very well take PE - also Joburg, Pretoria and Durban. And a good thing too, judging by their performance in Cape Town. And by the way, Zille may well "dance like an ape," (thank you Julius) but at least she doesn't behave like one!

      Big Mouth - 2011-04-06 10:59

Mrs Zille may dance like a monkey, but she governs like a professional. I prefer it that way around ......

      Zion - 2011-04-06 14:13

Jeremy while we hope that happens but it could lead to civil unrest in those areas were the ANC to lose control. Remember we are in Africa, not a cosy spot in Califonia.

      Rabbit - 2011-04-08 00:52

Koos the only one threatening violence is you, seems you don't really understand democracy at all, the only people who can let the DA win a provence is the people themselves and most of them would be black. I think you misunderstand the nature of the DA because it is not a race based party it is simply a South African political party.

  • maseratifitt - 2011-04-06 10:33

I am afraid the true meaning and effect of Vavi's words to the masses will be lost on many of our commentators.

      DW - 2011-04-06 11:16

I dont think they miss the true meaning and effect - they just cant understand why he would bother to make such a comment when he will clearly not vote for DA and will vote for ANC again, despite his comments.

      Jo - 2011-04-06 11:54

We know exactly what he's saying - he's trying to frighten the masses into NOT voting for the DA by 'threatening' them with the nightmare of, apparently, white rule. But I think that the masses might not be as thick as he thinks - his approach is very patronising towards the masses who just require delivery and good leadership, and a few less smartass tactics and propoganda.

      Xolani - 2011-04-06 12:15

Excuse my ignorance, But wasnt Vavi addressing NUMSA delegates telling them to ctach a wake up before they srart losing elections. It was an internal "pep talk" if you may and was not intended for the so called masses. Once again NEWS24 commentators lose it completetly ...

      Jo - 2011-04-06 12:32

Sorry Xolani, my mistake - I was replying to maeratifitt, not the article. Here is my ammended comment: We know exactly what he's saying - he's trying to frighten the NUMSA delegates into voting for the ANC by 'threatening' them with the nightmare of, apparently, white rule. But I think that the NUMSA delegates might not be as simple as he thinks - his approach is very patronising towards the NUMSA delegates who just require delivery, consistent labour laws that encourage job creation and work stability and good leadership, and a far fewer smartass tactics and propoganda.

      Meanleader - 2011-04-06 13:27

Xolani... I'm sorry , but I cannot excuse your ignorance until you tell me that you are going to vote DA , and until you assure me that you are joking about blaming news 24 for this embarressing fiasco ! Does it really make a difference that this was an internal pep talk ?

      maseratifitt - 2011-04-06 17:25

Xolani :I beg your pardon, but isn't the news media a mass media? If this was what Vavi said to his shop stewards, would they say anything different to the masses? Which then will be the truth? From what I have seen from Numsa is that they will still go out and demonise Zille, brainwash and intimidate the masses, exactly as Vavi intended. The nett effect is the same.

  • paulf - 2011-04-06 10:36

He said the ruling African National Congress was "infested with corruption and greed" - why then would a DA leadership be a nightmare, surely continued ANC leadership would be the real nightmare. if the DA did take over serving the people, that would imply that thats what the people want (since that is what they voted for), how then would that be a nightmare for those people!? I think thatt would be a nightmare for the corrupt ANC officials, not the people who want to be served by govt, not used.

Hi David, my family are originally from Zebediela.. Awesome part of the world! Are you guys still growing lots of oranges? Best memories of my childhood visiting my gran at Zebs.

      brown_bread - 2011-04-06 14:49

Gee, thats some place! Yes Snoopy88, there are still plenty oranges there (not as much as when I was a kid there). Bapela, is it you David who used to be at Turf..? MD res..? Ntamatisi? Man that would be insane :-)

  • GTFO - 2011-04-06 10:48

and out of the atlantic ocean cometh GodZille!!!!

      Shistirrer - 2011-04-06 11:50

The Wicked Witch of the West, Vavi's nightmare! VIVA HELEN! VIVA DA!!!

  • M - 2011-04-06 10:48

Well that just proves that not only is Vavi ultimately a racist but he is the ultimate sexist too. The funny thing is that my domestic tells me everytime that she comes to work for me that she wishes that things would go back to the way they were before Mandela - to the time when things worked, when the children would all go to school, when they could go to the clinic and actually be given medicine to make them better, when they felt safe walking in the street. And here I was thinking all along that things were better for the people of this country.

      daaivark - 2011-04-06 11:11

Your domestic what, M? She is a person.

      karlkat - 2011-04-06 11:18

It's funny, with apartheid there was no freedom but dicipline and order. No that everyone is free there is no dicipline and absolute chaos. What does it tell us... I have had the same conversation with a black colleague of mine

      Jaco - 2011-04-06 11:47

Surely you dont mean that? Oh wait your probably one of the old folk. We the younger generation would never let that happen again. We already have to walk around with the stigma of the mess you made.

      Chocks - 2011-04-06 11:48

@m I hate what the ANC is doing, and I definately will not vote for them again, but wishing for things to go back to the way they were before Mandela is madness. Tell your "domestic" to try and better her life, there are so many opportunities now. How old is your domestic? 60?

      lebogang - 2011-04-06 12:15

Well M, you forgot to remind your domestic that then, before Mandela, she was not allowed to live in any area, especially those reserved for Whites Only, she was not allowed to call you by your name because you were a 'miesies' and your husband a'baas'; she could not have her children to attend school with your kids because they were 'klein miesies' and klein baas'; she was not supposed to use the same door as any white person becuase she was black; she could not do anything without getting p[ermission from the Apartheid White governement. So because we know how it was before Mandela, please do not pretend as if the 'school', the clinic and that all these without RACIAL RESTRICTIONS AND DISCRIMINATION. Maybe she chose to forget to make you feel good! Butr you know very well where we come from. However there are many, many white compartriots who chose to shun the Apartheid lifestyle benefits and decided to fight the injustices of the system with their fellow countrymen and women. To them we say - Aluta Continua!!!

      Jo - 2011-04-06 12:36

M - your domestic worker doesn't mean apartheid. And the one thing that the DA do not support is any return to that foul past. In fact, it's "support" of this kind that misleads the majority of SA voters into being afraid of the DA. Unless you're actually intentionally trying to make mischief?

      Totman - 2011-04-06 13:03

@lebogang. I think what M was trying to say or I so hope is that the things that worked in the old system should have stayed and improved. I am sure the domestic worker are not longing for apartheid, but she also do not see her freedom in what is happening now. It is clear that no-one wants apartheid back, but wants a more organized live and better services. Sometimes a person tend to look to close at the problems that touch you and forget that all of us feeling the lack of services that were mend to improve all our lives. If some-one was saying yes, the white people gets now lest opportunities because the concentration is on the black people than I could try to understand, but now the concentration is only on a certain elite group and the rest of SA, black and white , gets ignored.

      Snoopy88 - 2011-04-06 14:05

@ Lebogang - why don't you just hang onto your hatred and nasty little racial stereotypes for the next 50 years..? Who will suffer more? Your children? The restrictions and discrimination continue to exist for you because you practise it every day in your own life. Free yourself from these feelings of inferiority and take hold of your destiny!

      Swaar - 2011-04-06 14:09

@ Lebogang It is very clear from the way you are writing about th epast that you didn't even live through it. That makes you as a rough guess about 25. What do you know? Oh yes, I forget, you heard it from someone, who heard it from someone else and so on and so on. You know, now that we are on the topic, here is a thought for you. It starts like this "It takes two to Tango". If the ANC didn't use terrorist tactics, and didn't hide in the general populace, like terorists, the the government at the time wouldn't have had to use the tactics that they did. I am not condoning apartheid. I despised it then and still do, for keeping you ignorant! But what have you done with your freedom? not much i would guess. No progress. The only progress anyone can see, is the self enrichmnet of the ANC elite and the Anc cadres every where thinking it is their inalienble right to take what they can, becuase that was what was done before. All based on hearsay! So your ignorance and willingness to argue based on heresay, is exactly why we are where we are as regards to service delivery, murder, rape, manslaughter. You have nothing to back up any of your "statements", except that someone told you. Well, let me "tell" you something... on second thought, nah... too much work. Work it out for yourself, if you can.

      Zion - 2011-04-06 14:36

Take a domestic at random, take mine. She tells me that in the last election they were forced to vote for the ANC or else. Or else meant they would be assaulted if they refused to do so. They were also promised water and electricity, sewerage system and a proper living area and conditions. The elections have come and gone. Very few if any of the promises have been realized. The fear factor has been stepped up in my area due to the coming of the next elections. My domestic knows she will be forced to vote for the ANC or the "or else" factor comes into play. They are brainwashed to the extent that they believe that their vote can be traced back to them. Democracy at its best A'la Africa.

      croix - 2011-04-06 22:27

@brown bread - for goodness sake, LISTEN to yourself and your prejudiced outlook! What should I now call my gardener? 'Estate manager'? Really! The word 'Domestic' does (and always will) refer to 'House' - as in a 'house worker' or 'house cleaner'. How on earth is that derogatory or demeaning in any way whatsoever? Then by the same token "chauffeur" or "butler" is also not allowed? Grow up, man.

      cathy eksteen - 2011-04-07 23:23

You are so right on saying that, have had many people tell me that, it was more controlled and everyone had work. I find it hard to believe as I don't agree with those days. But I truly vouch for that

  • nixliguori - 2011-04-06 10:49

Vavi, Im going to watch with anticipating glee while your nightmare come true!!

      nixliguori - 2011-04-06 10:50

      oops sorry, comes true :)

      ex-pat - 2011-04-06 16:51

      Oops - "anticipatory".

      Steve Wonderboy - 2011-04-06 17:32

I didn't even know that word existed, "anticipatory". Good one!

  • mm - 2011-04-06 10:50

You might think it will be a nightmare, but give Zille and the DA a chance to prove to you that it will be a blessing.

  • mercutio9 - 2011-04-06 10:51

Vavi, if that were to happen your children will grow up in a better South Africa.

      maseratifitt - 2011-04-06 11:16

...and what an embarrassing nightmare that will be for the ANC !

  • michaelph - 2011-04-06 10:51

From your lips to God's ears comrade Vavi

  • BokomoWeetbi - 2011-04-06 10:51

AMEN! It's about time that you look with your eyes open and see the change that is about to happen!!! A woman for President, i really don't mind that

  • kjac - 2011-04-06 10:53

You are right Vavi, it will be a nightmare for all corrupt GOV officials, as she will be going after them. Do the sensible thing Vavi and join the DA!

      paulf - 2011-04-06 10:56

I agree with you Kjac. I think vavi must form an alliance with the DA. Now is hes time to jump a sinking ship!!!

  • Jeff - 2011-04-06 10:53

'Absolute nightmare' for the ANC, not necessarily for the residents of that city.

  • jiamalunga - 2011-04-06 10:55

He said the ruling African National Congress was "infested with corruption and greed". But please vote for them! You are an IDiot Vavi!

      Totman - 2011-04-06 12:10

I wondering about the same. It is clear to me that the old original ANC is dead. You will only find them in old people's memories and history books. The new guys are misusing the voters to enrich themselves.

  • Falcon Eddie - 2011-04-06 10:55

How can this be a bad thing? Idiot.

      maseratifitt - 2011-04-06 11:57

I wish we can find another word to describe someone whose opinion and thoughts differs from our own.

  • lubegz - 2011-04-06 10:55

People, you may not agree with the man's political affiliation, but can we at least give this ANC member some credit for calling his party on their bs? It's a win-win situation.

      daaivark - 2011-04-06 11:14

I fully agree. Whether one like Vavi or not, it is indisputable that he has huge influence. So it is very significant for him to cry foul.

  • Michelle - 2011-04-06 10:56

Helen Zille for President.....!!!!!!! now we talking :)

  • michaelp1 - 2011-04-06 10:57

We all know what happens when Mom & Dad leave the sweet cupboard open when the little kids are home....Or what happens when Mom & Dad leave the drinks cabinet open while the teenagers are home with friends...Like uncontrollable children they will help themselves and have too much and get sick..and, and - you lose control of yourself. I just wish Comrade Vavi would accept that HE and his organization are responsible for most of the unemployment in South Africa.

  • Theresa Soule - 2011-04-06 10:59

Hell yes! Wish she could take over GP as well!..All the problems would quickly get sorted out. Zille for president!!!!

  • rebelinme - 2011-04-06 10:59

I support the sentiments uttered by Vavi. ANC seems to be in the dreamland where everything happens at your own will and time. If they do not wake up now, they will find this country in someone's hands. South Africa's populations literacy is growing. By 2024, literacy levels will have increased to a higher proportion, which means all these old age people voting ANC would have gone. Viva Vavi Viva. His surname is VIVA read inversely.

  • jdeeathome - 2011-04-06 11:00

lets hope vavi's fears realise, just imagine no corruption, tender fraud, hey and even functioning municipalities. sounds like heaven to me

  • Nathan Raynardt - 2011-04-06 11:00

I really find great joy in reading this im a huge Zille supporter you come to work you do your thing and leave. Not come to work figure out where you can embezzle money tell your friends and you al go home rich and complain aboutwhite people trying to help the poor and about the big bad evil Zille

  • John Smith - 2011-04-06 11:00

God forbid we have another white president eh Mr Vavi - or is it simply because she´s a woman? How racist are the people who cry racist day after day.

      Fanie - 2011-04-06 11:06

BOET it is AA - old white English woman!! who cant dance - that counts as a disability apparently according to JM

      Xolani - 2011-04-06 12:25

Actually John Smit, he was addressing NUMSA delegates (shop stewards), when he said nightmare he meant COSATU's labour policies will then be discontinued under Zille as you may know DA's labour policies are totally different to what COSATU and ultimately the ANC stands for ... Its sickening that nobody watched or heard the entire speech but you find it fir to call him a racist or an idiot etc. Reminds me of a certain story about an ex-rugby player that was doing the rounds recently How many times did people say "Give that man a Bells" without having facts at hand. The snippets news that come out of NEWS24 and written in a very "funny" way are quite disturbing ... I challenge NEWS24 to provide Vavi's entire speech text and stop qouting snippets out of context.

      Point Blank - 2011-04-06 12:42

Xolani, it doesn't really make any difference who he said it to does it? THe DA might have different policies but then Cosatu and the ANC haven't done squat to resolve the massive unemployment issues have they. In fact, many believe their policies to be counter-productive... A change right about now would be good.

      michaelp1 - 2011-04-06 13:03

@Xolani - It is these very COSATU policies which are causing unemployment. You cannot expect employment figures to rise with one - sided laws.

      croix - 2011-04-06 22:37

Yes - either a 'racist' or a 'sexist' view? Wow! What a prospect - of government employees actually serving the citizenry as they should.

  • Fanie - 2011-04-06 11:01

    Hellen you go girl!!

  • tkotze - 2011-04-06 11:01

That is pure racism, doesn't matter how you see it. I don't really care about him, but the underlying opinion he is forming in the people he is speaking to with these statements is once again holding the company back from going forward. Positives, none. He basically said that you should continue voting ANC because DA will be a nightmare. The ANC cadres responsible for the problems will not change their ways due to this speech. So in short, I wish for an accountable country where these type of statements ends a political career and people are not constantly lambasted with derogatory ideas.

  • MIke Cope - 2011-04-06 11:01

The electorate in the Eastern Cape is fairly savvy. They can see the corruption - as any ten-year-old could - and how badly it affects delivery. Now their interests are in conflict with their allegiances. It will be very interesting to see how it pans out. Probably be good for the UDM as well as the DA.

      daaivark - 2011-04-06 11:20

      Very well said Mike.

      Jo - 2011-04-06 12:38

I have a lot of time for the UDM.

  • Dave - 2011-04-06 11:03

  • zulufox - 2011-04-06 11:05

    had a good laugh...

      Blackdude - 2011-04-06 11:10

yes me too!! its nice watching the ANC shiver as they watch their power slip through their fingers!

  • Granny - 2011-04-06 11:05

      Virginia - 2011-04-06 11:21

Is this the real Granny? Failblog Granny?

      Granny - 2011-04-06 12:51

@James, sorry I'm not that Granny but I am real!!

  • redd1 - 2011-04-06 11:09

why does news24 not reveal the full article, vavi gives his point, and the reasons why, noting the corruption and not responding to their supporters pleas for assistance over the last 4 years now its election time. Even their current ANC voter tag is, vote for the anc??? for the revolution??? they have not spoken of 1 anc municipality that is doing well... i wonder if the anc knows they will not get my vote, i dont care about the history, lets talk about Aurora Mines, where the workers are starving. The gupta's. Zuma's wives being paid for by tax payers money. Zuma's family, the outrageous toll road. etc etc. ANC's attack on small business's and Farmer's are destroying the economy. i know we need transformation but learn from the whites, the indians, coloureds, work together because if tomorrow these minorities left, er the brain o's can either go to UK or India no probs. honestly speaking how long before SA turns into Zimbabwe?

  • Currie_Mafia - 2011-04-06 11:11

Vavi, you twat, wake up !!! The fault lies with your sleeping partner, the ANC. Stick to Trade Union matters & don't drum up support for the unruly party.... This is not the ANC of Tambo, Mandela & Biko, no, this is a party "infested with greed & corruption".

      Nick Tarr - 2011-04-06 11:32

You seem to forget there is a tripartite alliance? Cosatu/ANC/SACP?

      marden - 2011-04-07 09:59

its still the same party dedicated to unruly behaviour plotting the demise of one group unfortunately it is now affecting their own people more than the "oppressor" and so the cookie will crumble

  • estee.mente - 2011-04-06 11:12

    so wrong yet so right

  • Wilfred - 2011-04-06 11:13

That will be like sending a mosquito to cure malaria. Look at the poor in Western Cape, no service delivery for them but the money is utilised to construct cyclist pavement for the rich (obvious white). I am waiting for the release of the report that the DA has been forced by COSATU to release to the public today that vindicates some of us who have said time and again that the DA serves the interests of mainly whites.

      Nick Tarr - 2011-04-06 11:34

"today that vindicates some of us who have said time and again that the DA serves the interests of mainly tax payers." Fixed that for you. Thank me later.

      Hannes van der Linde - 2011-04-06 11:36

At least the DA is serving somebody... other than themselves.

      Shistirrer - 2011-04-06 11:57

Yes, in the Western Cape only the whites ride bicycles. The ANC-connected blacks don't have bicycles, they all have Beemers and eat sushi off naked women.

      Point Blank - 2011-04-06 12:46

Shame Wilfred, you poor lost child. Blindly loyal while you get robbed... The facts are there for you to view at anytime - the poor in the Western Cape get more services then the entire ANC led country... That is fact. Undisputable, viewable on demand fact.

      user_64 - 2011-04-06 15:19

Terribly inaccurate comment. The brains must be in the behind, Wildfred.
